Alexander:
“Hey, little one” I whispered to my daughter, carrying her in my arms, ensuring that I didn’t wake Scarlett
Anastasia, having woken up crying, my wolf went on complete alert as Scarlett grew exhausted from staying up with her through the night; therefore, I couldn’t really blame her for being unable to open her eves when our daughter decided to wake up again a while after three in the morning. I walked to her bottles, and picked one up, knowing that she was most probably hungry by now, checking its heat before hearing her whimper as she attempted to wake her mom up.
I took her out of the room, sitting in the living room as she cooed, making me chuckle.
“You’re being a little handful, aren’t you?” I said softly, running my finger over her stomach, watching her giggle.
I placed the bottle in front of her mouth, smiling when her small lips wrapped around it, drinking it.
-Anastasia…?” I heard Scarlett ask, panicking when she didn’t see her in her crib. She practically ran out of the room, and despite the sleep in her eyes, I could tell that she was wide awake, her heart racing against her ribcage.
“I brought her out here for you to get some rest” I said, looking back down at my daughter who was focused on the milk that she was drinking.
You could have woken me…”
“That would go against the point of having you get some rest” I said, not bothering to look at her “and in case you weren’t aware, I am the girl’s father; therefore, I do not need your permission to take her out of her bed”
“Alexander, it is way too late for us to be having such an argument. I just panicked, I’m sorry” she said, taking a step toward me as she looked at Anastasia who was closing her eyes as she grew drowsy again.
“Go back to sleep, Scarlett…”
“How did you know about her waking up? I didn’t even hear her crying?” Scarlett asked.
“My wolf had me feeling her stirring. I knew that you hadn’t slept all night, at least, my wolf knew, and I found myself waking up. Anyhow, you can go and sleep, you really do need it” I said, removing the bottle from Nasta’s mouth. I held her up against my shoulder, gently tapping her back, rocking her very softly until she croaked.
“You never did it for her, how do you know…?”
“I don’t need to hide a child to know how to deal with a baby, Scarlett” I said, stopping her. Scarlett held her breath fora second, watching as I got up with Anastasia in my arms, taking her back to her crib. It was something that I saw mom doing as a kid, and by time, I came to learn a thing or two about it. Those who were orphaned were mostly taken care of by the pack’s Luna, and in my case, it was mom.
“Why do’you hate me so much?” She asked, watching as I put Anastasia in her crib, covering her gently, ensuring that I didn’t wake her as I did_ I turned to face Scarlett, watching as she flinched, clearly regretting her question. The two of us have been in the house for less than a night, and yet, here she was plotting an argument.
“You are nothing to me for me to ‘hate’ you, Scarlett” I said, turning to face her. Her eyes avoided mine for a second before she wrapped her arms around herself, a habit that she’s had since we were kids when she saw herself under pressure “my parents loving you doesn’t mean anything to me, Scarlett, and the two of us know that they are simply paying your family the favor they did for us. Yes,_ understand that you lost them to save us, and in return, we’ve given you a place between us; however, that does not mean that you’re anything more than an omega” “Alexander…”
“My daughter is an Alpha’s blood, and if you’re here, standing in front of me, mentioning my name without the word Alpha, it is because I am honoring your parents’ sacrifice and the fact that you’re my daughter’s mother I don’t want you expecting anything more from me, Scarlett” 1 said, ignoring the ache that I felt in my chest. Scarlett stayed quiet, listening to what I said for a few seconds before nodding in understanding.
“Would you like to stay with her for the rest of the night? I will go to my room, there’s no need to worry about that” she said, avoiding my eyes.
“No, you are her mother and I believe that her staying beside you can eventually help her heal…” “She is fine, Alexander, and the two of us know that” Scarlett said, stopping me.
“I don’t believe the nurses said the same thing earlier this morning. If anything, I believe that you saw her in the incubator yourself and hence why I had the two of you moving here instead of staying in YOUR house alone” I said coldly.
“I don’t know what made you turn against me this much…” “You do not…”
“But whatever it is, I do hope that you remember the fact that the two of us were once friends” she said, not bothering to wait for me to complete my sentence “mating bond, rejection, a pleasured fuck, I don’t give a damn right now. We have a daughter and yet, the two of us can’t be subtle enough as not to argue at three in the morning, because she woke up wanting to be fed”
“Look, I don’t have anything to tell you, Alexander. You can proceed with hating me if you want, but I never did anything to hurt you as an Alpha or my friend, and the two of us know it. Ignoring that, we need to think of what is best for our daughter…”
“Do you want to know what I think is best for her?” I asked, stopping her, making her frown in confusion. Scarlett stayed quiet, waiting for what I was going to say, and studying her expression for a second, I shook my head at her “you are not even worth it…”
“Excuse me?” She asked, frowning in confusion. “She deserves a mother who can raise her child…”
“I had my baby less than a month ago, and all you have done is accuse me of being a bad mother” she said, stopping me.
“A good mother does not resent her child” I said, glaring at her.
“Okay, I am a bad mother, would that change that I am her mother? No, it will not. Therefore, unless you wish to sleep in her„room, kindly leave the room for me to get some sleep” she said, pointing at the door as tears formed.-n- her eyes. I looked at her, my chest aching for a second before nodding and taking a step back, tyning to the door. Her eyes avoided mine, and looking down at her feet, I saw a look that I haven’t seen since I’ve rejected her.
It was a look of pain, one of a heartbreak, her walls falling for a second before she took a deep breath, raising them again. I didn’t bother waiting to see her getting into bed before I walked out of the room, and shaking my head at myself, I reminded myself of the reason why I had to bring Delilah here.
“She is nothing but an omega, Alex, and that won’t do us or your child any good in the future” I said, entering my room as I felt my blood boil “you need to start focusing on these small details if you want to ensure a strong future for yourself and your pack…”
“And it has to be one without Scarlett in it” I said again, glaring at my reflection as my eyes turned golden, my wolf making himself known “an omega is NEVER going to be fit to be an Alpha’s mate or a pack’s Luna, especially not an orphan one…”
