Alyssa blinked and typed, “They’re the same.”
Silas replied, “That’s true! Birds of a feather! Also, I have big news I need to tell you in private, Lyse.
Axel sent, “Just say it here.”
Silas answered, “Nope! These are the fruits of my investigation. Don’t go trying to steal my thunder Go conduct your own investigation!” He then sent her a voice recording. “I found some interesting tidbits about Liana Gardner,” he said.
Silas seemed like an incomprehensible prosecutor at first glance, but the Taylor siblings knew of his hacking skills. He wasn’t as skilled as Axel, but his skills worked well enough.
They aided in many of his investigations, and no criminal could escape his grasp. Liana Gardner was no different. Photos of a scantily clad Liana kissing a biracial man were forwarded to Alyssa’s WhatsApp.
“Not bad, Silas. This is interesting.” Alyssa whistled as she went through the photos in contentment. “Where did they come from?”
“Liana follows a few hundred accounts on her Instagram. I spent the last few days going through every single one. This man rang some alarm bells, so I hacked into his account and gained access to his photo library on his phone. That’s where I found these babies.
This man is a fitness instructor who has many fans.”
“Thank you, Silas. Let me take you to dinner tonight!”
“Just dinner? You’re not even treating me to a drink? What’s the point?”
“Okay! You can drink all you want!”
“Don’t get yourself too excited yet. I still have more. This one caught me off–guard.”
Silas then sent her a health diagnosis from a medical institution alongside several photos of a woman’s abdomen.
“What is…” The sight shocked Alyssa.
“Would you believe me if I told you Liana had given birth in Mosgravia? These are photos of her stretch marks after her pregnancy.”
Alyssa zoomed in on the photos to carefully peruse them.
“That woman wasn’t ill at all. It was an excuse for her to make her visits to the plastic surgery department to get rid of the stretch marks on her belly. Hah. The rapid development of technology makes things very convenient for those with ulterior motives.
I’ve heard of people swapping the results of paternity tests, but plastic surgery for stretch marks is a first! This means Liana and Jeremy have yet to sleep together. Her secret would’ve gotten out otherwise.”
Alyssa felt inexplicably relieved to hear the news. “Good,” she said with mixed emotions.
“What the hell? Good? Cheating is still cheating. You have a problem, Lyse. Are you trying to settle for less than what you deserve?” Silas didn’t want his sister to continue being soft–hearted toward Jeremy and wanted nothing more than to snap her back to reality.
She gave him a wry laugh. “You got it all wrong. I don’t love Jeremy anymore. I just feel a lot less disgusted because he didn’t touch Liana while we were still married.”
“Hah, it’ll be his turn now to feel what it’s like to be cheated on!” Silas spat out. “That idiot deserves it. He passed you up, my sister, the richest girl in Belbanks with both beauty and brains, for a cheap bitch!”
“This is Jeremy we’re talking about. Not even riches can win him over.” Alyssa smiled coldly as bitterness washed over her. She had loved him throughout the years. Letting go would take time, but she knew she would never love him again no matter what.
“The cheap bitch is baring her teeth. We might as well put this information out there to teach her a lesson!” Silas was eager to jump at the chance to take Liana down a peg.
“I’ve always had this habit of saving the best for last.” Alyssa narrowed her eyes and smirked. “We only bring out the big guns at the right time. That’s how you devastate.”
Jeremy escorted Liana into his office under the scrutiny of everyone present in the building.
The moment the doors shut behind them, she leaped into the man’s arms and clung to him in tears.” Thank you for coming for me, Jeremy. I was so scared…”
Jeremy’s eyes were impenetrable pools as he pushed her away.
“Jeremy…” Liana was puzzled.
“Why did you do it?” His tone was icy, the look in his eyes no less intimidating.
“What do you mean?”
“Why did you go to Solana Daily about our marriage?”
She breathed a sigh of relief and tried to go back in for another hug. “Because I want to marry you. Don’t you want to marry me?”
“I do, but what you did was inappropriate.” His expression remained stern, completely missing his usual gentleness.
“What’s inappropriate? You and Allison aren’t married anymore!”
“There are still procedures she and I have to follow through. I also promised Grandpa we’ll only make our divorce official after his 80th birthday.” Jeremy stepped back to avoid her.
“She’s still my wife in name. You exposing news of the marriage has made everyone involved unhappy. Grandpa is only going to be more dissatisfied with you.”
Jeremy was, in every way, a straightforward man who considered the pros and cons of every action. he took. He was emotionally stunted even as a child. Every bit of kindness he could spare was given to Liana, but it didn’t change how direct his words could be. He thought she would understand because they were childhood friends.
It became apparent that she completely failed to grasp the point, and her eyes were red with. anger. “Who’s unhappy? Are you feeling bad for Allison because everyone on the internet is calling her a mistress? Do you feel sorry for her?”
“I don’t feel sorry for her, but Allison isn’t some other woman. None of this should’ve happened.” He pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling a headache coming on.
“What do you mean? She is the other woman!” She furiously stomped her feet, her high–
pitch shrieks causing a fresh wave of pain to course through his temples. “We would’ve gotten together ages ago if it wasn’t for her! It’s all her fault! She took my place by your side for three whole years!”
“It’s because Allison became my wife in name for three years that Grandpa is so understanding now. Without her, there’s no chance we could ever be together.” His own words tugged at his heartstrings. That was right. Would his grandfather have allowed him to get together with Liana if Allison hadn’t left when the three years were up?
That woman was always the first one to greet him with a smile when he arrived home. She helped him out of his clothes and prepared his baths. She was the one who took care of everything without saying a word just so she wouldn’t trouble him. She never fought, cried, or caused a fuss. Not a single word of complaint came out of her mouth even after she signed the divorce papers.
Allison may have chosen to leave with Jonah, but there was no denying that she did her part as his wife in the three years they were married. He, meanwhile, saw her as nothing more than a tool. He wanted the three years to be over just so he could be with the person he loved. It was clear he was the one who owed her more.
“Jeremy, are you… siding with that woman?” Liana was shocked. When did Jeremy become so difficult to read?
“No, I’m just stating facts.” That was when Jeremy’s phone began to ring. It was his grandfather. There was no hiding the tension, so he swung open the door to speak with Xavier, who was standing guard outside. “Xavier, have someone escort Ms. Gardner home.”
“As you wish, Mr. Jeremy.” Xavier motioned for Liana to leave.
“Jeremy! I don’t want to go… I’m scared!” She stubbornly clung to his arm with tears in her eyes.
“Don’t be afraid. Don’t accept any media interviews. I’ll handle the rest.” Jeremy drove her out of the office with a straight face. Once the door finally shut behind him, he picked up his grandfather’s call whilst nursing a headache.
“Grandpa.”
“Jeremy Walsh! I see you broke your promise to me. Are you that eager to marry that hussy?” Newton snarled in anger. “Marry that Gardner girl and I’ll see you gone from this family!”
“The news was put out by the media, Grandpa. It has nothing to do with me.”
“I know it was the Gardner girl who did it! She got anxious because you aren’t in a hurry to get hitched. That’s why she made such a preemptive move!”
“It wasn’t Lia. You’ve misunderstood her.” Jeremy felt his headache get worse. After loosening his tie, he leaned against the wall to support himself enough to reach the couch to take a seat. He had to lie to his grandfather who loved him dearly, which left a bitter taste in his mouth. But there was no other choice.
“I forbid you from marrying Liana! You’d better make up with Allison!” Newton got straight to the point. It was clear he was more in favor of Jeremy and Allison being together.
“You made a promise, Grandpa. You said I could make my own choice once the three years were up.” Sweat beaded on Jeremy’s forehead as his breaths grew ragged.
