“Congratulations!!!!! You are having twin boys.”
“Yesssssssssssss!” Sophie’s voice came out the loudest. She literally jumped down from the chair she was sitting on beside her mother and started dancing with so much joy while humming to a happy song.
Right before the Doctor announced, Vee remembered intertwining hands with Oscar but he eventually left her and joined Sophie in the celebratory dance.
Victoria smiled at them as happy tears welled up in her eyes. It was so fulfilling seeing her family happy and also enjoying this moment with her family. Never did she think a day like this would come when her heart would be filled with so much joy.
“So you guessed differently?” The Doctor said to Vicky.
Victoria smiled, nodding, wiping tears off the corner of her eyes. “I honestly thought it was going to be a boy and a girl. But it turns out my husband and daughter know my body better than I do.”
“Maybe. Or they probably prayed harder than you. Especially your little girl. She has a very admirable confidence. One that can actually make things happen. You have a beautiful family and Congratulations once again on your twin boys. I can’t wait for them to meet you all. Your family is going to be filled with so much love.”
“Thank you so much, Doc.” She smiled, turning her attention to her husband and Daughter who were still celebrating with dances and loud giggles.
Sophie walked up to her mother with the biggest smile on her face. She tiptoed to k**s her mother’s cheek then intertwined her hand with her mother’s own.
“Thank you Mommy for being brave. Thank you for giving me, my baby brothers. I’m going to be good to them, I’ll play with them and share my snacks with them too. I love you, mommy.”
“Come over here,” Vee mumbled, trying her hardest not to cry, wondering what she did to deserve such an amazing daughter.
Vee placed a deep k**s on the crown of her daughter’s head and caressed her cheek with the back of her palm, looking at her with nothing but adoration in her eyes.
“I love you too, my princess. I have no doubt that you are going to be the best big sisters ever to your baby brothers. Thank you for coming into our lives and making us the happiest parents ever.”
Sophie grinned before turning her attention back to the monitor.
“Let’s see how these little angels are fairing.” Dr Natalie said. She punched in a few things on the monitor and before they knew it, the ward was filled with the sound of a heartbeat. Vicky started crying all over again. Oscar was back to her side, holding her hand but he had smiles all over his face.
Dr Natalie left the sound on for about two minutes so the family could bond with it before She turned it off.
“What was that, Mommy?” Sophie asked, turning her attention to her mama the moment the sound went off.
Victoria smiled with her glossy eyes, though Oscar had wiped her tears away. “That was one of your brother’s heartbeats.”
“He has a small heart already?”
“Yes, my love. A small kind heart just like yours.”
She grinned. “That’s cute and really cool.”
“Yes, my love.”
“So that is Baby A’s heartbeat. Very strong and he’s growing fine. So let’s listen to Baby B’s heartbeat” Dr Natalie said and almost immediately, the sound of the second heartbeat came through.
“Thank Goodness!” Vee mumbled after which she closed her eyes for a while to savor the sound of the heartbeat.
The day after her accident, which was a couple of weeks back, an ultrasound was done and the second baby’s heartbeat was visibly weak.
Vicky couldn’t identify which baby was which yet but the first heartbeat was really strong and it was the same for the second one which made her feel instantly relieved.
“Perfect Heartbeat.” Dr Natalie smiled, making her way over to the monitor. She pointed at a few things to the family, showing them Baby A and Baby B. She also described to them how far they had grown and every other thing they had to know.
Oscar went ahead to wipe the gel off Vicky’s belly after which she changed back to her clothes and they exited the examination room, waiting for Dr Natalie in her office.
Vee and Oscar were seated beside each other while Sophie occupied her father’s lap. “One ice cream for me, One for you
Daddy and one for Mommy, and two for baby brothers.”
Oscar chuckled at his daughter’s excitement. “Yes, my love. We are definitely going for lunch and ice cream when we leave here.”
Dr Natalie finally came in. “Sorry for keeping you all waiting. I was trying to get this.” Once she was seated, she handed Oscar a brown envelope.
“Pictures of the ultrasound. It has today’s date and time underneath it.” “Thank you, Doc.”
“Thank you.” Oscar and Vee said respectively.
Oscar took out the pictures. There were about five of them in there and he showed one to Vicky and another one to Sophie who couldn’t stop smiling.
“Your babies are growing perfectly. Continue to rest well and eat well. I went over the list of medications you are taking and everything seems perfect but
I’m going to be adding two vitamins prescription.” Natalie wrote something down on the paper and handed it to Victoria.
“You have my number so feel free to call me if you need anything.” “I will. Thank you.”
“Sophie Darling, Don’t forget to always take care of Mommy okay?”
“Don’t worry Docky, I’ll take good care of mommy and baby brothers.” She sounded really confident, making the adults smile.
“Thank you, my dear. And thank you too for the nickname.”
“It’s good to have you all here, Mr Wayde. I had a great time attending to your family. Please take great care of your wife. You both can have fun as long as you want and as long as she is comfortable with the positions. It’s really healthy for the Babies.”
Victoria tried to hide her blush
“Don’t worry, Doc. I’ll do as you’ve said,” Oscar assured, smiling. They said their goodbyes, then took their leave.
Oscar made sure his wife and daughter were well settled in the car after which he went to get Vicky’s prescriptions. Then they went for their lunch/ice cream date and eventually got home at past 4 pm.
Sophie was asleep so Oscar went straight to put her in her room while Vicky made her way to the master bedroom.
Opening the door, her eyes darted straight to the bed and she instantly blushed at what was there. It was a rectangular shaped box with a note beside it.
Vee shook her head in disbelief, shutting the door behind her. She left the room after Oscar this morning so she was sure that she left the bed empty.
Vicky took her time putting her stuff in the right places and finally changed into a green silky free satin dress.
She went to the bedside, sat on it, and reached for the note beside the box. It was handwritten and she blushed even more, recognizing the owner of the cursive writing.
She smiled when she saw who the letter was addressed to. “To the mother of my twin boys”
“Life would be so boring without you, Vee. I can’t thank you enough for being in my life. Thank you for giving me the best gifts I could ever ask for. I love you to the moon and back.”
Vicky sighed, trying not to tear up. “What will I do without you?” She mumbled, putting the note aside, then went ahead to open the box.
It was a gold necklace with matching stud earrings.
“I’m definitely the luckiest girl in the world.” She whispered, feeling the jewelry with her fi**ger.
The door opened and Oscar strolled in.
“It’s crazy how you are always a step ahead of me.”
