A sudden realization hit River–she had been taking care of Noah’s mother all along.
Noah controlled his anger and spoke coldly. “Are you going to give me an explanation, River?”
Noah’s rude attitude infuriated River.
“You’re asking me for an explanation, yet you couldn’t even watch over your mother? Did you issue a Silver Alert? Have you let me know that you were looking for her?
“I discovered her on the street! She had walked so extensively that her feet were bleeding! If your can’t care for your own mother, why should I provide an explanation to you?”
Startled by River’s emotional comment, Jamie quickly glanced up. After a moment of thought, she realized that Noah bore a striking resemblance to her own child
Jamie reassured River, “Don’t be upset, River. This is my son.”
River was rendered speechless.
Noah relaxed upon hearing River’s explanation.
River had guessed right. Noah hadn’t shared his mother’s photo or informed anyone of his search.
But how could River have known unless she had seen the contents of his drawer?
Noah pursed his lips, averted his gaze, and coolly apologized, “Sorry!”
He then turned to Jamie, his tone firm. “Mom, you shouldn’t have gone out alone.”
”
Jamle looked at Noah disapprovingly, saying, “Even though you’re my son, we aren’t close. I went out to have some fun.”
Noah realized that his mother’s illness had relapsed. “I can take you out if you want, but come home with me now, okay?”
“No! I want to be with River!” Jamie declined harshly and even hugged River. “Let’s go inside, River. Ignore him! He’s trying to split us up!”
River remained silent and still, puzzled by Jamie’s unusual behavior. She couldn’t fathom what had triggered Jamie to act that way.
Was it because of the De Marcos?
Furthermore, River had never heard Noah mention his mother over the three years they had spent together. In fact, she had assumed that Noah’s mother had passed away. So, where had
Jamie been all that time?
Noah was overwhelmed with emotions. “Mom, she’s very busy. Don’t add to her burden.”
Jamie glared at Noah. “I’m not adding to her burden! You’re rich. Give your money to River so she won’t be burdened anymore!”
Noah said, “Sure, I’ll give her money, but you have to come with me.”
Jamie snapped. “I already told you I don’t want to go Why can’t you understand?”
“Mom, you’re supposed to come with me, not stay here!” Noah’s voice grew deeper.
“Don’t push me!” Jamie yelled, turned around, and dashed back to the villa.
Noah wanted to follow her, but River blocked his way
“Don’t you think you’re putting Jamie in a difficult position? She is your mother so she is supposed to go home with you indeed. However, she is on the brink of a relapse now. You should give her time to adapt,” she said.
Noah narrowed his eyes at the mention of the word ‘relapse‘. “How much do you know about my mother?”
“I don’t know much. You don’t have to worry about me knowing about Jamie’s condition. You can set your mind at ease and let her stay here. I’ve commissioned a doctor to take care of her daily.”
Noah’s tired expression deepened, and he said, “Please, let me know right away if there’s a problem. I’ll arrange for someone to deliver my mother’s medicine. Also, I could really use your help looking after Axel for two days while I’m away on a business trip.”
“Axel is my kid. No need to ask for help. It’s my duty,” River said, looking at Axel still in the car. She smiled and asked, “You coming out, dear?”
Axel picked up his backpack and exited the car. He approached River and said, “I didn’t want to interrupt your talk with Daddy, Mommy.”
River affectionately pinched Axel’s cheek. “You don’t need to be so cautious when you’re with me. Relax and stay here. I’ve arranged for a doctor to look after Grandma every day.”
Noah was taken aback by the sight of Axel’s smile directed at River. It felt unfamiliar as if he had never witnessed Axel smiling before.
While observing their interaction, a sudden thought struck Noah. ‘Maybe Axel could change for the better if he stayed with River.
Liora was excited and puzzled, her brow furrowed. She couldn’t make sense of the situation, so she tugged on Tyler’s shirt and asked, ‘Can you please explain this to me, Tyler?”
Tyler asked, “Explain what?”
With earnestness, Liora questioned. ‘Madam is the scumbag Daddy’s mother, yet Mommy refers to Madam as ‘Jamie“. What do you think the scumbag Daddy should call Mommy?”
Tyler smirked and answered confidently, “It’s simple. Mommy is scumbag Daddy’s aunt!”
Liora was taken aback. “Wouldn’t that make you scumbag Daddy’s cousin then?”
The corner of Tyler’s eye twitched. “Liora, it’s important for you to study.”
Gradually comprehending the situation, Liora groaned, “Ugh! You’re so irritating!”
Noah exchanged numbers with River, using Axel and Jamie as an excuse before he departed.
River hesitated but had to stay in touch with Noah because Jamie was staying at her house.
The Healys came downstairs after Axel entered the villa. Noticing the huge logos on Axel’s shirt, they approached him immediately.
“Whoa! This is a very good–looking boy! Where have I seen him before?” Jade complimented Axel right away.
Gregory exclaimed, “This boy looks just like the man you want to pair up with the most beautiful
Jade immediately noticed the resemblance when Gregory pointed it ou
Greg, look at the boy’s clothes. Are they really expensive?”
and asked excitedly,”
Gregory quickly pulled out his phone and began to check. “His cap is a customized Gucci kids‘
model worth 7,404 dollars. His top is a custom–made Chanel kids‘ seasonal piece, and the Internet says it costs no less than 27,000 dollars. His shoes are also Gucci, costing over 4,000 dollars.”
Jade’s eyes widened in astonishment ‘Goodness! This outfit could cover a house down payment! How on earth is he so wealthy?‘
She rushed over to Axel. “Hey, come here, boy. I’d like to have a word with you!”
“What is it?” Axel appeared confused.
Liora intervened, “Axel, don’t speak to them! Let’s go to Mommy in the kitchen to get pudding!”
Axel gazed at the Healys with a puzzled expression as they glared at Liora and Tyler. The siblings appeared visibly agitated.
‘What’s happening with my siblings?‘ he wondered.
Jade sneered. “Hey, girl. Am I annoying you by talking to him or something?”
Liora stood tall, declaring, “He’s my brother! Do you think you’re bothering me?”
Gregory tried to play the peacemaker, asking. “My dear, why are you getting upset with the child?”
He reminded Jade, “Don’t forget that Brandon will return soon with a load of roots. What if the child accidentally damages them?”
Jade nodded, saying, “Ah, you’re right!”
Grabbing Gregory’s arm, Jade led him toward the living room. She observed the three children. heading into the kitchen and remarked, “That boy is wealthy!”
Gregory said, “Even if the child has money, it won’t come to our hands!”
Jade glanced at Gregory. “It’s true that the money won’t come to us, but we can give the outfit to our daughter! She’s going to look so elegant!”
Gregory nodded. “That makes sense!”
Jade said, “Moreover, the child looks like a foolish, rich kid. We’ll save money if we take him out.
and make him pay for our meals, right?”
Gregory’s eyes lit up. “You’re smart!”
“Of course! Let’s take him out over the weekend!”
“Sure! You call the shots!”
“I’m home, Mom! Please come help me!” Jade and Gregory heard Brandon shout from outside after they had finished scheming.
Curious, they hurried outside and were amazed to see a sleek black car parked right in front of the door.
Brandon stuck out his head. “Mom, look at my newly purchased car!”
Jade approached in shock. She wanted to touch it but did not have the courage to do so. ‘How much does it cost?”
Brandon said, “A little over 100,000 dollars! It looks great, right?”
Gregory exclaimed, “Whoa! My son is capable of buying such an expensive car!”
Jade was excited as well. “Where did you get your money?”
Brandon pointed at his face and said, “Who dares to ask me for money?”
Brandon was so full of himself.
