The next day, River was woken up by an early morning phone call. She was drowsy but quickly perked up when she saw Kenny’s name on the screen.
Kenny sounded tired when he said, “G…”
River’s heart was racing. “Did something bad happen to you? Why do you sound like this?”
Kenny said, “Don’t talk, G. Let me speak. I’m exhausted!”
“Go ahead!” River said anxiously.
Kenny said, “My flight will touch down tomorrow afternoon. Come and pick me up. I have a big surprise for you!”
River said, “Will you tell me where you disappeared for the past few days?”
A woman’s voice suddenly sounded from Kenny’s side.
River was still confused when Kenny hung up
River stared at her phone, puzzled. Kenny hadn’t shared his arrival time for tomorrow.
Unable to sleep, River descended the stairs.
Upon seeing the Healys‘ mess in the living room, she massaged her throbbing head. As she moved toward the kitchen, a terrible smell hit her. Opening the kitchen door, she was shocked by what she found
The floor was covered in chicken waste, and one of the chickens had even hopped onto the counter, spreading waste all over the beige surface!
River gripped the doorknob tightly to control herself. She wouldn’t tolerate their careless. behavior in her house if it weren’t for the timing.
Once upstairs, River exhaled deeply. It was time to put her plan into action.
River woke the three children at 7:30 am.
Liora was so lethargic she could not even hold up her head. “I had a tummy ache last night. I can’t get up” she said weakly,
“Me too, Mommy.”
“Me too…”
River said concerningly, “Is it bad? Would you like me to take you to the doctor?”
The triplets shook their heads in unison.
Tyler said, “Don’t worry about us, Mommy. We’ll feel much better after taking probiotics. Go to work. We’ll be fine after resting at home for a day.”
River asked again, “Are you sure?”
“Yes, Mommy. We stay home by ourselves frequently, and there are so many bodyguards downstairs,” Liora reassured.
River said, “Alright then. Call me if you need anything. I’ll order food delivery for you.”
“Mommy, I can get Villa Rosa’s nanny to send us food,” said Axel
River figured that the nanny’s home–cooked food was still healthier than food delivery, so she nodded in agreement to Axel’s suggestion.
River left after the children went back to sleep.
Liora sat upright after ensuring that the coast was clear. “Is it bad that we lied?”
Tyler shrugged, got out of bed, and said, “It’s too late to say that now.”
Axel asked Tyler, “Did you find anything last night?”
Tyler sat in front of the laptop with a frown. “No. I only found Grandma’s death certificate.”
Axel was deep in thought upon hearing that. “Who did that then?”
Tyler heaved a sigh and shook his head.
Axel asked, “What is the situation with Casey then?
Tyler typed on the keyboard, and Casey’s information popped up.
Axel felt nervous when he saw Casey’s photo because his eyes looked murderous, cold, and emotionless.
Tyler said in a deep voice, “Casey was sent abroad 15 years ago, about the same time when Grandma went missing. On the other hand, Casey dated many women, but I didn’t look into them.”
Axel kept quiet for a moment. “So, something must have happened between them.”
“Yes. However, I can’t find anything related to Grandma for the past 15 years, but I’m sure the
De Marcos will know something.”
Axel said, “I’ll try to ask around.”
The triplets went downstairs at noon and saw Brandon holding a potato, analyzing it to a camera set up in the living room
Liora asked, “Is he selling potatoes on live streaming?”
“It’s obvious that he’s using our house to draw in followers,” Tyler said contemptuously.
“Yikes, you’re not at school, huh?”
All of a sudden, Jade walked out of the living room.
Liora pouted. “It’s none of your business that I’m not at school!”
Jade stared straight at Axel and ignored Liora. She suddenly laughed aloud after watching for a while. “Handsome boy, you just got here. Please allow me to take you to lunch as the host.”
Tyler and Liora almost laughed, thinking, Who’s the host here, huh?”
Axel was not good at declining, so he nodded rigidly.
Tyler and Liora were shocked
“I’m not comfortable with you just taking Axel out. I’m coming too!” Liora said and looked at Jade vigilantly.
Jade was reluctant to bring along the two annoying children. However, she could not care if they were joining since she did not have to pay for their meals
The Healys dressed up and headed to the restaurant with the triplets. There, they ordered the most expensive meals that filled the table.
Tyler and Liora stared at Jade, wondering. Did she strike gold or something?”
Jade said to Axel courteously, “Handsome boy, eat! The food is expensive!”
Axel grabbed his utensils, ready to take his portion. However, Gregory beat him to it, placing the food on Axel’s plate.
Axel frowned, his hands frozen.
Tyler sneered. “Axel would never eat the food a stranger put on his plate.”
Jade’s expression grew cold. The boy has so many bad habits. Why is he being so picky when he has food?‘
She wanted to scold him, but his wealth held her back.
Brandon exclaimed, “What kind of bad habit is that? My father is kindly providing food for you!”
Jade glanced at Brandon and advised, “Eat more, talk less!”
Brandon sighed. “Isn’t that how it’s supposed to be, Mom? There’s no danger in the portion Dad picked.”
Gigi grabbed Axel’s plate. “I’ll take it if you won’t!”
Axel lowered his gaze and clenched his lips.
Liora was furious “That’s bad manners!”
The Healys enjoyed their meal, but the three children hardly ate.
Afterward, Jade requested the check.
The waiter handed it to Jade. “The total is 810 dollars. Will you pay with cash or card?”
Jade checked her pockets. “Oh no, where’s my wallet? I had it when I left!”
She turned to Gregory. “Greg, do you have your wallet?”
Gregory pretended to search. “I don’t have it.”
Brandon sensed their game. “I don’t have mine either.”
Jade turned to Axel. “Handsome, we’re forgetful. Would you mind covering it?”
Axel wordlessly handed his phone to the waiter.
He assumed that an 800–dollar meal was cheap and that he should pay for his younger siblings.
Tyler and Liora were shocked.
Liora gripped Axel’s arm, ready to speak, but Tyler stopped her. “They’re doing this on purpose.
Speaking up won’t help,” he whispered.
Liora frowned. ‘We can’t let them bully Axel!”
Tyler pondered briefly. “I’ll find a way to stop them.
