When she reached her room, she found herself waiting for the evening crazily. This was getting out of h*and and she felt like calling River to help her but River wasn’t talking to her, so she just plopped on bed, grabbed a pillow and covered her head with it and whined and whined.
In the evening, she was ready wearing a black c*ocktail dress till her t*highs. For the whole time, she steeled herself that she was going to reject him now, but when she reached the bar and saw him, the world faded around her.
Lena gave herself a last look in the mirror, smoothing her dress. What was she doing? She bit her l*ip as thoughts of seeing a married man made her nervous. Should she quit now? But her wolf whined inside. She wanted to meet her mate.
‘Okay!’ Lena breathed. ‘But this would be the last time, tomorrow we are leaving.’ The wolf didn’t even bother to reply as she was already cartwheeling inside.
Lena reached the reception and asked for directions to the bar. “There is a program out there I believe!” she said to the manager.
“Yes, ma’am,” said the manager. “Mr. Mendez called the singer in the morning to perform in the evening. It was really surprising because this is the first time he called a singer to Sapphire Hotel, and we are eager to see how this works out.”
Lena was… surprised. Shawn had called the singer in the morning? Usually the programs are scheduled much ahead in time, then how come a singer was called in one day? She didn’t think much about it and cl*icked her heels all the way to the bar. When she reached inside, she could make out flirtatious gazes of the male wolves. They were all sitting in a way that oozed s*exiness. They smiled at her and gave her flirty looks, but Lena’s eyes were only for the man who had taken her heart.
“Lena,” his voice came from behind as he placed his h*and on the small of her back. Delightful shivers ran down her b*ody all the way to her toes that curled. She turned to face him, her cheeks heating up. And when she turned, she bumped into his broad c*hest. She placed her h*ands on his c*hest and gasped. “Shawn!”
Their gazes locked and neither of them could look away. Lena tried to say something but her t*hroat was filled with cotton. He was simply mesmerizing in a black shirt and black p*ants. His golden curls were gelled and combed back.
His h*and traveled to her cheek and he brushed his knuckles on her skin.
“You are beautiful,” he murmured. “Th-thank you,” she said. “You are gorgeous!” she blurted and then felt like slapping her m*outh. He chuckled and she felt a thousand shades embarrassed. “Come, we can sit over there,” he said and guided her to a corner where there was a sofa and a low coffee table. The sofa was big enough for only two people. Tucking her hair behind her ear, Lena sat on the sofa and Shawn sat right next to her. “The singer will come in a little while. What would you like to have in the meantime?”
Her t*high was t*ouching his t*high and the contact was sending her mind into tizzy. She really had to get out of here before she ruined his life and hers. “Wine. Red wine,” she replied.
He smiled and signaled a server. “Two red wines for us.” The server was surprised to see Shawn with her which she couldn’t help noticing, but he quickly left.
Lena rolled her l*ips between her teeth, thinking that this would become a scandal. Owner of Sapphire Hotel was seen with Beta of Crescent pack. She whined on the inside which came out as a purr on the outside. Neither of them spoke, but she felt his h*and on her shoulder. His f*ingers brushed the skin of her n*eck lightly and then her shoulder. Lena was doing everything to control herself. His f*ingers traced back to her n*eck and then her ear and that was it. She felt that familiar ache in her belly which she wanted to chase. She wanted to say something to him but the singer came and people clapped for him. Soon the bar started filling with the guests. The singer, a male, started with light romantic songs and he won the hearts of people with his skill on guitar. Shawn leaned towards her ear and whispered, “Can I have a dance with you?”
She took a ragged breath in and despite wanting to deny, she ended up holding his h*and and going to the dance floor. He circled one h*and around her waist and with the second h*and, he took her h*and. She placed her h*and on his c*hest and when the song started, she swayed with him. As they danced, more couples joined in. Perhaps it was the wine, but Lena was dazed. So close to her mate was like a balm to her nerves. There were so many things to think about but why couldn’t she speak anything.
“Are you single?” he finally asked.
“Yes!” she said, looking in his eyes and hoping to k*iss him. ‘Get out of the gutter Lena’ she berated herself. As for her wolf, she was drooling on her mate.
“Oh thank God!” Shawn let out a breath of relief.
Lena stopped dancing as she snapped her gaze to him, wondering what he meant by that. There was a huge smile on his face. He twirled her and then suddenly dipped her, lowering himself over her body. Lena was breathless. She was unable to understand the change in his behavior. She thought that he was getting infatuated by her and that meant that he would leave his wife which in turn meant that his baby girl would get separated from him. “No!” she blurted. “Wait! Stop!”
Stunned at her sudden outburst, he stopped and lifted her back. “Anything wrong, Lena?” he said, his eyes searching hers.
The way he said her name, the way it rolled on his t*ongue, she felt that she would never tire of listening to her name on his t*ongue, but this had to stop. “I- I can’t!” she said, her eyes stung with tears. “This is not right.”
“What is not right?” he asked, bewildered.
Lena stepped back from him and her tears slipped out of her eyes. “This thing happening between us is not right,” she said and then turned to leave.
“Lena!” he called her from behind, but she ran away from the bar. She couldn’t be the one who destroyed a child’s future because of her selfish reasons. When she reached her room, she crashed on the bed and cried her heart out. “I have to leave before this gets out of h*and!” she said and then cried more. Too many scenarios stirred in her mind, making her restless.
The room’s phone rang, breaking her rumination. She picked it up. “Hello.”
“Miss Lena, good evening.” The receptionist said.
“Yes?”
“Tomorrow, you have to be ready for the hike by 5 AM. This is just a reminder.”
“I don’t want to go,” she snapped. “Please cancel it.”
The receptionist gasped. “Miss Lena, there are only five people for the hike and if you cancel, no one will be able to go. The guide has instructed us that he won’t come if there are less than five people.”
“I am not asking you to refund my money!”
“It’s not about money, Miss Lena. These are the guide’s instructions. However, if you are unwell, I can explain to the others.”
She gritted her teeth. “No, wait. Okay, I will go.” She was going to leave the hotel after the hike. Thinking that Lena started packing her stuff. Coming to this place was a bad idea.
