Vee smiled with so much pride in her heart, returning her daughter’s hug. “I love you too, sweetheart. You really know what to say to me to make me calm.”
“And to answer your question,, I think the white dress would be perfect.” Sophie smiled, rising to her feet. She eventually exited her parent’s room and went to get ready for tonight’s event.
As soon as it was 7:15 p.m, Oscar stopped all that he was doing and went into his adjoined bathroom, changing into his suit.
He came back to his office, shut down his laptop, picked up his phone, and car keys and exited the office.
It took a couple of minutes to get to the venue but Oscar was glad he got there right on time.
Handing the car keys to the valet, Oscar proceeded into the Five-star hotel.
Upon sighting him, a waitress stepped forward and ushered him to a VIP room. It was more like a mini event hall that could contain 40 people.
“You can go in, Sir.” The waitress smiled at him when they got to the door after which she took her leave.
“Happy Birthday!!!!” Oscar froze in his tracks the moment he heard those voices come through after stepping in.
“Taking in his surroundings, he saw his wife who was looking breathtaking in the dress she was putting on, his three children,, his sister, brother-in-law, Amie, a few of his business partners, his driver whom he told to take an early day off because he would be staying out really late, his children’s nanny, Lara, Gabriel and their son Adiel, Kathie, four of his old friends, five relatives and his parents.”
From where he stood, Oscar could see the gift corner that had three big cakes and of course gift bags. The tables were set for two and some three. He could see waiters moving around with drinks and food.
Evan and Ryan were the first set of people to run towards their Daddy. Oscar embraced them in a warm hug after which he went ahead to greet every other guest in the room and lastly, his wife.
“You like being naughty, don’t you?” He circled his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him. “I told you not to do anything and you still came up with something.”
“You go above and beyond for us. I’m glad to do this for you. You honestly deserve more, my love.”
“I have everything I could ever wish for. You gave me everything and nothing else matters.”
“But thank you for putting these together. I honestly didn’t see it coming. It’s a pleasure to see our loved ones here. Thank you.” He covered his mouth against hers, giving her a soft, passionate kiss.”
The rest of the party went well and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Oscar was about to reach for another glass of wine when he saw a familiar figure approach him.
He looked up and it turned out to be Lisa.
She looked pretty nervous standing before him. They did nothing but stare at each other for almost a minute until Lisa went ahead to break the silence.
“Happy Birthday, Son.”
“Thank you
“I haven’t seen you physically in a long while. This is probably not the perfect place to make this conversation but Thank you for everything.”
“I never thought I would be given the opportunity to spend time with my grandkids or even meet them.”
“Your kids are so amazing and I feel so proud to be their grandmother and to be a part of their life.”
“Thank you for forgiving me. I thought I knew it all but I was only destroying your life.”
“Thank you for standing up for yourself against me. Thank you for going after what you really want.”
“Isn’t it crazy how the woman I was preventing you from is the one that brings you so much joy?”
“Victoria is really amazing. I couldn’t be happier that she’s your woman and the mother of your kids.”
“I was so embarrassed to face her physically the day she brought the twins over. I know someone like me doesn’t deserve to be in your midst and in her midst also but I’m really grateful for her presence in your life. She’s truly a woman of virtue indeed.”
“I cried when I got today’s invitation from her. It felt so good again to be involved in your life.”
“This is me asking for forgiveness again and thanking you for still finding me worthy despite everything.”
“I feel you are not going to stop talking if I don’t do this.” Oscar sighed, pulling his mother into a hug for the first time in almost 10 years.”
“He could feel her sniffling against his chest as she hugged him back as though his life depended on it.
“This suit is a limited edition. You are going to buy me a couple of them if you ruin this one.” He chuckled, gently patting
her back.
“I would gladly do that.”
The duo finally pulled away from the hug and Oscar wiped tears off her eyes with his thumb.
“Yeah, I was really furious and never wanted to have anything to do with you. But I guess the pain is all gone. I’m so drowned in my present happiness that I’ve got no strength to think of the painful past anymore.”
I forgive you and Dad.”
“And I’ve honestly not been avoiding you. I’ve just been busy whenever the kids were to come see you. But I’m glad you came”
“My wife and I, along with your grandchildren, would be coming to spend the weekend with you. Is that okay with you?”
Lisa smiled, nodding.
After tucking the boys to sleep, Oscar was finally back in his room. He approached Vicky where she stood by the vanity area, and kissed her neck.
She smiled, slowly turning around to face him.
“You had a good day?”
“Yeah! Thanks to you.”
“I have something to tell you.”
“What is it?” Oscar said, staring at her intently.
“I don’t know how to put it in words.”
“You’ve never been scared about airing your thoughts. What is it? I’m all ears.
Vee released herself from him, approached the nightstand drawer, took out a rectangular-shaped gift box, and returned to where she was standing.
Oscar frowned at her. “You already gave me a present this morning”
“Too many presents wouldn’t hurt I guess.” She said shyly.
Oscar smiled, accepting the gift from her. He opened the box, the smile on his face slowly fading away upon taking note of
the contents.
“Are you for real?” He stared at her intently.
“Yes!”
“Holy shit, Babe.” He stared back at the box in his hand. It contained a digital pregnancy test reading positive and a baby
onesie with the words ‘Hi Daddy’ printed on it.
Vee saw his lips slowly turn into a smile and that was when she felt a bit relieved.
“So this is the reason why you’ve been a bit under the weather? The lack of appetite, it all makes sense now.”
Vicky blushed.
“Are you happy?” She asked him.
“Of course I am. This is….this is the best birthday gift I could ever ask for.”
“Oh my goodness, come over here.” He tossed the box on the bed and drew his wife closer to him. He gently cupped her face
in his hands.
“I honestly gave up that year when we couldn’t conceive. This is nothing but a miracle and I’m so happy. I wish you could feel the joy in my heart right now.”
“Thank you so much for completing me in ways I never knew that it was possible to be happy.”
Vee smiled. “It takes two to make a baby.”
“Yeah! We did it but it happened because of you.” He released her face, then crouched down to his knees. He hugged her belly, gently placing his head on her lower abdomen.
“Thank you so much for coming into our lives, my jewel. Daddy loves you so much.” He showered kisses on her belly before rising to his feet.
“What are you doing?” She giggled as he started to take off her clothes.
“It’s about to be a very long night for us. And this time around, It’s going to be twin girls.”
