“She’s still marked. You can have her once her mates are dead.” Ryan told him, and it instantly pulled me out of my thoughts.
“What?” I yelled out. I’m glad my voice still works.
“You won’t need them anymore. Your mother refused to be my queen, and I’m not giving up what’s mine again.” He growled, looking down at me. He had the same eyes as Jordan, and I immediately knew who he was, the former Fae king.
“What have you done?” I cried, tears running down my cheeks.
“Don’t cry. Soon, all the kingdoms will be gone and it will just be us and our son to rule them all.” He said, kissing the tears on my cheeks. He settled himself between my legs, and I could feel him digging into my thigh.
“Please, don’t.” I whimpered.
“It’s just the bond, and as soon as the bomb goes off, vaporizing the Fae castle. I’ll mark and mate you, my queen.” He said, inhaling my neck.
“Boss.” I heard someone yell out, and Kaden groaned before moving off of me.
“I’ll be back, my queen.” He told me and I wished I could run. I willed my body to move, but I still couldn’t feel anything.
“Don’t touch her, she’s mine first.” He told Ryan before he left the room.
“Freya, anytime now.” I yelled at her as I watched Ryan stalk towards me like I was his prey.
“I’m trying to force the drug into your lower half. Just stall him. Find out where the bomb is.” Freya said. I can do this, I told myself as Ryan climbed on top of me, taking Kaden’s place.
“Why are you doing this?” I stuttered out, trying to find my voice.
“Because I get to share you and be second in command. You really made this too easy, beautiful.” He mumbled into my neck, breathing in my scent. I could feel my fingers tingling as the feeling was returning.
“Where is the bomb?” I asked him and he sighed.
“Can I just enjoy this?” He huffed, and I knew he was probably going to beat me, but I needed to know.
“Its not like I can move. I’m no threat to your plan.” I told him, playing with my bottom lip with my teeth. He looked at me with lust-filled eyes, and I had to urge myself not to throw up at the thought of another man touching me.
“How about you let me touch you first and I’ll tell you.” He purred, like I could move and had a choice about which one touched me first.
“I would love that.” I told him and the dumbass actually believed me.
“We planted the bomb under the back garden,” he said, and I gasped.
“Why?” I gasped as he licked my neck and I just wanted to knee him in the dick.
“To rule the Fae kingdom and you. No one would see it coming.” He mumbled, nipping at my neck. The tingles in my fingers were moving up my arms now and I needed the drug to move through my system faster.
“Freya, please say that you are almost ready?” I begged her.
“As soon as the other fucker gets back here, we will strike.” She told me and I let out a breath.
Kaden ripped Ryan off of me before I realized Kaden was even back in the room. Kaden had Ryan pushed up against a wall, not having any of Ryan’s shit. They were yelling at each other while I tried to focus on what Freya was telling me to do. The room temperature lowered as I pushed Freya to the surface to use her powers. When the others noticed they could see their breath, they turned their attention to me.
“You shouldn’t be able to..” Kaden didn’t get the chance to finish as Freya breathed out her icy breath through my mouth, freezing both of them where they stood. Kaden still had his hands gripping the collar of Ryan’s shirt.
“Thank you, Freya.” I breathed out, looking at the frozen jackasses in front of me.
“Okay, now we just need a portal to get back. We need to find the bomb.” I told her, trying to roll off the bed.
After a few tries, I finally rolled off the bed, landing on my face on the hard floor. I let out a groan as I tried to at least move my arms to pull myself up. My legs felt a tingling sensation as my arms felt like pins and needles. I felt like I slept on my entire body wrong and all the blood was trying to flow back to my limbs.
“Freya, are you ready? We may only get one shot at this?” I asked my dragon.
“It’s not safe to shift, Ashlyn.” Freya reminded me, while I was trying to pull whatever magic I had left to the surface, to open a portal back to the Fae Castle.
“I know, but this is our family. I’m going to bring the bomb to the surface and then you will shift and fly it as high as you can.” I told her.
“Just open a portal.” She told me. I was thinking of the garden at the back of the Fae Castle when I heard a commotion coming from the other side of the door. Something must have happened. I pulled with everything I had and finally a portal opened when the door to the room banged against the wall as someone kicked it open. Using Freya’s icy breath, I blew out just before I crawled through the portal. Instantly, it closed behind me. Hopefully, all those fuckers were popsicles.
I was on the verge of passing out, as I face planted on the grass, but I needed to get the bomb away from my family. Laying on the grass, panting and covered in sweat, I willed the power of the earth to come forth. The ground shook as I found the bomb buried deep within the soil under the patio area. Pushing with everything I had to get the bomb to the surface, thinking of the love I held for my family, I pushed harder as the magic ripped through my already achy body.
“Freya, I see it.” I called to her.
“This is going to hurt.” she warned me. But before I could say anything else to her, she shifted. The pain was unimaginable as my limbs broke and twisted under the muscle relaxer. Not able to hold back my screams, I screamed out right before I became Freya. Her movements were a blur as she grabbed the bomb in her talons and raced towards the sun.
I could hear the bomb beeping and I felt anxious about it going off while we were holding it. I didn’t see if there was a timer counting down.
“Freya, throw the bomb into the sky. I can’t see the ground anymore.” I told her. She slowed to a glide, throwing the bomb with significant force.
“Now, dive.” I screamed out. She dove and I thought we would make it back to the ground when it came back into view. The bomb exploded, hitting Freya with such force that it forced her to shift back to me. I was falling and there was nothing I could do. I reached out to Mason and Derek.
“I love you.” I told them before my eyes blurred, the exhaustion taking over, and I fell into darkness.
Derek
“Sage, protect the kids.” I yelled out as Mason and I watched Freya take flight, carrying the bomb she had just unearthed. Sage rushed off, but before anything could happen, we were all thrown as a force hit us. Landing on my back in the nearby grass, it knocked the air out of my lungs and I wheezed, trying to fill my lungs with much needed oxygen. My ears rung and black dots clouded my vision as I tried to sit up. Groaning, my head spinning as I sat up, trying to look around. I saw Sage on top of Brandon. He must have caught her before she hit the ground.
Looking to the other side of me, I found Mason, still lying on his back. I tried to crawl over to him, but he sat up instantly when Ashlyn’s voice was in my head. I knew she must have mindlinked both of us.
“I love you.” She said before the link closed.
“Derek!” Mason pulled me from my thoughts at Ashlyn’s words. Shaking my head, I looked at him. He was pointing to the sky. I turned to where he was pointing to see Ashlyn fall out of the sky.
She was falling fast and before I could even register what I was doing, Magnus shifted and took to the sky. Watching through Magnus’ eyes as Ashlyn fell to the ground had my stomach in knots as Magnus moved faster than I’d ever seen him move. I just pray that it was enough to save our mate, like she just saved all of us.
Ashlyn
When I finally came to, my entire body felt broken. This time, I had to be dead. No one could have lived through that.
“If you were dead, you wouldn’t be in pain.” Freya groaned in my head.
“True. You think I’d be a pro by now.” I groaned at her.
The realization hit me that if I could feel the pain, I could now feel my body. The drug must be out of my system now, but I wish I still wasn’t able to feel anything.
Sparks on my arms told me my mates must be with me, but I couldn’t bring myself to open my eyes. I can now say that this is the worst pain I’ve ever experienced.
“Open your eyes, Baby.” Mason whispered beside me.
“I can’t. Everything hurts. Did I hit the ground?” I groaned. And Mason chuckled.
“Just a dragon,” he said. I tried to run through my memories to see when I would have hit a dragon.
“What dragon?” I asked when I realized I didn’t know what he was talking about.
“Babygirl, I’m sorry, but you were falling fast. Magnus didn’t have time to slow down before he grabbed you.” I heard Derek say.
“Well, that’s a new one.” I told him, with a chuckle, before hissing out from the pain in my abdomen.
“I know it hurts, but can you please open your eyes,” Mason pleaded, and I groaned.
“I hate you.” I told him as I tried to open my eyes. My entire face felt swollen, as I forced my eyes open to see both my mates looking down at me. I was grateful that their bodies were blocking the sun. My head was already pounding, and I felt nauseous.
“You okay?” Derek asked me.
“No, but did anyone else get hurt?” I asked them, remembering the bomb.
“Nothing that can’t be treated and the kids are okay. They were with the Fae Queen,” Mason said. I blew out a breath, closing my eyes again.
“That’s good.” I told them with a yawn.
“Babygirl, what happened?” Derek asked me, pulling me up against his chest. I was now sitting between his legs, snuggled into his chest.
“Why am I naked?” I asked, suddenly realizing they wrapped me in a blanket.
“It knocked me out.” Freya answered in my head.
“That’s how you shifted back.” Mason answered, and I sighed.
“I’m glad that everyone is okay. But I need to speak with Jordan.” I told them, opening my eyes. Mason was kneeling beside me, watching me.
“His dad?” He asked me and I nodded.
“Are you okay? Your smell is off.” Derek asked me, leaning down, kissing my forehead.
“Yeah, I can explain that at home, but right now I just want to explain to Jordan what happened, see my babies, and get home.” I told them.
“Do you think you can stand?” Derek asked me.
“Do wolves fly?” I mumbled out. Mason chuckled while I snuggled into Derek. I couldn’t stand. I could barely move.
“I think that’s a no.” Mason chuckled.
“Mom, are you okay?” I heard Gabby’s sweet voice. I opened my eyes to find her standing behind Mason.
