Danika slowly came to her senses. “A man my grandfather hired to teach me back in Orchid Village
“Woah. Must’ve been quite the master then. What was his name?” Christopher was now intrigued. His own martial arts mentor had been top-notch, yet he had been defeated by Danika so easily. Whoever taught her must’ve been far more skilled. Not to mention the fact that men and women naturally differed in physiological strength.
Sensing that Christopher had no ulterior motives in asking this, Danika said, “Tywin Munster.”
Christopher’s silverware nearly fell to the ground. “Tywin Munster?!”
His reaction made Danika curious. “Yeah. Something wrong?”
“Um…” Christopher suddenly didn’t know if she was being serious or not.
Tywin Munster was a master of masters in the martial arts world. How could Danika mention his name as if he was just some average Joe?
Christopher calmed himself down, “Do you know who he is?”
“Not really. My grandfather said he was very skilled in martial arts, so he had him teach me. I never really questioned him.” Danika shrugged.
She had learned from a handful of teachers but had never had time to sit down and talk to them due to her packed schedule. They all left once they finished teaching her, and Danika never saw any of them afterward.
Though there were exceptions where they visited Orchid Village again, but only before her grandfather passed away. Danika had been shocked when she met Tywin again at the village back then, too.
“He’s not just very skilled; he’s nearly the titan of the martial arts world, Danika. Even I know his name, and I’m not formally trained.” No wonder Danika was so good at combat!
Danika bit her lip. “Mr. Munster was pretty good.”
Was that the point, though?
“Don’t you find it strange that someone like Tywin Munster would agree to teach you all because your grandfather asked?” Christopher asked carefully.
Danika frowned and met his gaze. She knew what he was hinting at. “Grandpa said that Mr. Munster had just visited the village to spend his holidays. He never really emphasized how powerful he was.”
She wondered if Christopher had gotten the wrong guy. Her teacher couldn’t be this master of the arts that he was talking about, right.
Christopher sighed. “It’s because of what happened…”
“What? What happened?” Danika asked, now curious.
After a pause, Christopher said, “Go look it up yourself. It made global headlines back then, so you should still be able to find a trace of it now.”
Danika grew still. She had never actually thought of investigating the people she grew up around until now. She never felt like she had any reason to. But Christopher’s words had incited her curiosity. Maybe her teachers really weren’t as simple as she thought.
“Even though that happened to Tywin, not just anyone could’ve gotten him to agree to teach them. “Christopher’s grandfather hadn’t even hoped he could hire Tywin back then, so he never tried.
Danika stayed silent, suddenly realizing something.
“You’ve been asking me what exactly my motives are while you continue telling me you’re nobody special. But have you wondered how a nobody could’ve possibly gotten a master like Tywin Munster to be her teacher? Based on what you’ve told me, all your other teachers must’ve been. masters in their respective fields too. Why do you think this is possible, Danika?” Christopher asked.
Danika began to question herself too
How could her grandfather have managed to have all those masters teach her?
Wasn’t she just an ordinary person from a small village? Why the need to go to such lengths?
It was the middle of the night, and Danika was wide awake after her talk with Christopher. She examined her teachers’ information on the computer screen and found Christopher was right; they were all experts in their respective fields. The martial arts, computer, art, and medical teachers were all renowned professionals in her country.
Even her seemingly ordinary design mentor, Jade, was once a partner of a well-known domestic designer brand. Danika realized that she might not be an ordinary person, and she became curious about her background. However, she didn’t know who to ask as her grandfather had passed away. Suddenly, she remembered Gilbert, whom her grandfather could have confided in
“Danika?” Gilbert answered the phone. It was not night yet in his time zone, so he answered almost instantly.
“I want to ask you something,” Danika said. “Before Grandpa passed away, did he tell you anything?” Gilbert hesitated, having an inkling of what she would ask next. “What do you mean?”
“Did he say anything about my background? Did he tell you anything about my family?”
After a moment of silence, Gilbert sighed. “I don’t know much. Grandpa only said that you were not his biological granddaughter and that your family would reveal themselves when the time was right. Until then, he asked me to protect you.”
He was telling the truth. That was all Horace told him before he passed away. However, Gilbert had discovered more over the years but didn’t intend to tell Danika yet. He wanted to confirm it again before revealing anything.
Danika was stunned by the news that she wasn’t biologically related to her grandfather. She couldn’t help but wonder about her real family.
“Danika,” Gilbert called her, concerned about her state of mind.
“Did Grandpa say anything about my family?” Danika asked, hoping for some answers.
“No, he didn’t. Maybe he thought the time wasn’t right yet,” Gilbert replied.
Danika decided that she needed to go to Bardoff City to find answers. Christopher’s grandfather might know something, and so might Old Mr. Quincey. However, given her knowledge of Old Mr.
Quincey, he wouldn’t tell her what was going on.
Suddenly, she realized how strange he was for insisting Eustace marry her in the past; she wondered if it was related to her background. She felt chills all over when she thought about it.
Danika forced herself to stop speculating and decided to wait until she had more information before making any assumptions.
Danika had been performing surgeries for several days in a row before taking a leave of absence. She wanted to complete all her surgeries before her break.
Eustace had also been busy recently. In the past few days, he had successfully persuaded several directors to support him. He now needed to unite everyone to remove Mortimer from his position as head director of the Quincey Group. Once Mortimer was no longer in charge, he would have limited power and pose little threat to Danika, so Eustace could stop taking him seriously. However, he was oblivious to what Danika was thinking at the time or that she was planning to go to Bardoff City.
In Danika’s office, she had completed all the necessary surgeries for her inpatients and asked for leave. She could leave for Bardoff City at any time. Before leaving, she thought of Stephanie, who she hadn’t heard from recently, and became worried.
She called her, and Stephanie answered, “Danika.”
“Stephanie, what have you been up to lately?” Danika asked. “You didn’t even come to see me.
She found it strange that Stephanie only called her when she broke up with Eustace. She hadn’t even contacted her when the news of Eustace and Natalia began to spread.
Stephanie stared at the man beside her in frustration, replying, “Let’s meet another day. I’m busy today.”
Danika immediately became suspicious and asked, “Where are you? Are you with your family or at work? I’ll head over now.”
It caught Stephanie by surprise. “No thanks, I’m busy.”
Danika continued to press on, saying, “Stephanie, we’ve known each other for a long time. You can’t fool me by saying that.”
Stephanie was silent.
Danika frowned. “Are you at Paul’s place? Did he threaten you using your family?”
The thought of it made Danika furious.
“No, I went to him voluntarily,” Stephanie replied with a wry smile. Although she put up a good fight, she and her family couldn’t beat Paul. If she didn’t compromise, the Zelliots would have been done for.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Danika asked. “I can help you.”
“You know, I still like him quite a bit.” Stephanie didn’t want Danika to worry. She didn’t know what Paul might do if she angered him. After all, Danika had just broken up with Eustace and was still sad over it, so Stephanie didn’t want to add to her worries.
It only made Danika angrier. “You need to leave immediately. I’ll pick you up.”
“Danika…”
“Stephanie, if you still consider me a friend, listen to me.” She didn’t believe Paul wouldn’t do anything to Stephanie. She couldn’t afford to take any chances.
Danika hung up and left the hospital to drive to Paul’s villa.
Meanwhile, Stephanie stared helplessly at her phone.
“Is your best friend coming to save you?” Paul asked, holding a glass of red wine in his hand.
Seeing his wicked smile, Stephanie said coldly, “I won’t go with her but don’t do anything to her, or I’ll make sure you regret it!”
“I’ll regret it?” Paul seemed to find it amusing. “Well, you can go with her if you want.”
It shut Stephanie right up. She knew she couldn’t leave. If she did, Paul would attack her family.
“Let’s set the record straight. It was you who begged to be my lover. I didn’t force you,” he said with a snort before heading upstairs.
Stephanie smiled wryly. Yes, she had begged him.
