Danika was speechless and thought that Natalia had misread Eustace’s intentions and that she was not the person Eustace liked. “You’re his girlfriend now, so why look at other girls?” Danika asked.
Natalia smiled, feeling a little embarrassed. “Being his girlfriend doesn’t mean anything. We could break up at any time.”
Danika agreed with Natalia. It had happened between Eustace and her. She asked, “So, you had a fight with him?” She couldn’t find any other reason for Natalia’s visit.
Natalia nodded. “That’s right. He wanted to break up, but I didn’t want to, so we fought.”
Danika was surprised that they were about to break up despite only being together two days ago. She felt angry that Eustace didn’t take relationships seriously and might have deceived Natalia.
“Why did he want to break up?” she asked, sounding miffed.
*Probably because of the person he likes,” Natalia said, sneakily glancing at Danika to gauge her reaction.
Danika’s expression turned ugly at the thought of Quinn being the person Eustace liked. She felt angry that he was hurting others, especially someone as innocent as Natalia.
“Are… are you okay?” Natalia asked softly, noticing Danika’s distress.
“I’m fine.” Danika shook her head, trying to calm down. “Since he wants to break up, why don’t you just go along with it? Don’t waste your time with that bastard. There are many good men in this world. It’s a waste of time to hang on to him.”
Natalia sensed that things were not as she had expected. Given Danika’s reaction, she appeared to harbor a strong dislike toward Eustace.
“I…I just want to wait a little longer,” Natalia said after a while, feeling that things were spiraling out of control.
“You want to wait?” Danika frowned, not quite understanding what Natalia meant.
Natalia quickly explained, “My parents also know about my relationship with him. They’ll think it’s my fault if we break up so soon. I don’t want them to think that way, so even if we break up, it shouldn’t happen so quickly.”
Danika listened and began to grasp the situation. Eustace and Natalia’s relationship was due to Natalia’s social status, and both families had met each other.
“But he insists on breaking up, and you can’t stop him,” Danika said calmly.
Natalia nodded and responded dejectedly, “His father initially supported my relationship with him, but now it seems he can’t do anything about it, so Eustace wants to break up with me.” She thought Danika was kind and decided to be truthful with her.
“His father?” Danika appeared bewildered to hear that.
Observing her confusion, Natalia was also taken aback. “Eustace’s father, you…didn’t know?”
“His father!” Danika stood up suddenly, her eyes filled with disbelief.
Eustace’s father had returned? When did he come back? And how could Eustace heed his father’s instructions? Wasn’t he supposed to be an adversary?
Things seemed to be different from what Danika had believed. Could it be that Eustace had deceived her about everything before? Perhaps his mother hadn’t taken her own life, and his father hadn’t left with another woman.
Natalia was scared by her reaction and reached out to tug at Danika’s wrist. “Are you okay? You didn’t know about his father?”
“No.” Danika sat back down, feeling cold inside. How many things had Eustace kept from her?
“He wanted me to marry him, but Eustace seemed reluctant.” Natalia hinted that Eustace had feelings for Danika and wanted to marry Danika. However, she had no idea that Quinn had come between Danika and Eustace. With Quinn still in the picture, Eustace’s actions didn’t matter to Danika.
After calming herself down, Danika asked, “Did you come here just to tell me this?”
“Maybe he still likes you, but his father made him break up with you.” Natalia decided to tell the truth to avoid further misunderstandings.
Danika laughed. “You’re overthinking it. For someone like Eustace, no one can force him to do something he doesn’t want to do.”
It was more so for his father, whom Eustace perceived as his enemy.
Natalia tried to say more, but Danika cut her off. “I broke up with him, and you’re his girlfriend. It’s none of my business how you two get along.”
“But what if I break up with him? Wouldn’t you want to get back with him?” She was beginning to feel worried for Eustace.
Danika sneered and replied, “I wouldn’t date a liar.”
Eustace was busy at the Quincey Group when Natalia arrived. Frowning, he asked, “What are you doing here?”
He didn’t want to be seen with Natalia by the media as they were about to break up, and he didn’t want to give them any reason to speculate.
Natalia was embarrassed but decided to talk to Eustace after witnessing Danika’s behavior toward her earlier that night.
“Are you still busy?” she asked as she approached him.
Eustace was not in the mood to entertain her and asked, “What’s the matter?” He viewed their relationship as strictly business, so he didn’t see any need to be polite.
Nonetheless, Natalia smiled and asked, “After we break up, are you going to make up with Danika?”
Eustace’s expression changed suddenly, and he glared at her. “Have you been spying on me?”
Natalia chuckled nervously. “Do I need to spy on you? Your breakup with Danika is common knowledge.”
Eustace didn’t understand why Natalia was concerned about the topic and said, “What does that have to do with you? If you’re ready, we can announce our breakup tomorrow.” If he hadn’t promised her to wait for three days, Eustace wouldn’t have even waited for a moment longer.
“Well, that may be possible.” Natalia agreed, feeling it would be better to break up sooner rather than later. If Eustace’s relationship with Danika was ruined by the delayed breakup, she would feel extremely guilty.
Eustace was surprised and asked, “So you agree?”
Natalia replied, “Why not? I thought we could wait a few more days to tell my parents, but nothing will change.”
Sooner or later, she would have to face the music.
Eustace’s expression improved, and he said, “Okay, we’ll announce it tomorrow. So, why did you change your mind?” He had promised to wait another three days, so Natalia agreeing to announce their breakup the next day was strange.
Natalia bit her lip, unsure whether to speak or not.
Eustace noticed her confusion and asked sharply, “What’s the reason?”
Natalia hesitated before confessing, “Actually, I went to see Danika before coming here.” She avoided eye contact as she spoke.
Eustace stood up angrily, confronting her. “You went to find her? Why? What did you tell her?”
“I just told her that we are breaking up and that you got together with me because you had no choice,” Natalia explained quickly.
Eustace’s expression turned cold, and his voice became icy. “So, you told her about my father?”
Natalia nodded, not understanding why both Eustace and Danika acted so weirdly about his father” Was I not supposed to?”
Eustace was angry. “That is my business. Who gave you permission to tell her about it?”
Eustace could only imagine how upset Danika was. He hadn’t told her his father had returned, so she might think he was lying again.
He felt an oncoming headache. He and Danika had misunderstandings because of Quinn, and now Mortimer was added to the equation. How could he explain everything to her?
He thought he wouldn’t need to tell her about Mortimer after getting rid of him, but now, it seemed unavoidable.
Natalia was scared by Eustace’s angry expression and said, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll go first.Bye!”
She hurriedly left, fearing Eustace might harm her if she walked slowly.
Though unsure of what had happened, Natalia sensed she had said something wrong and left quickly.
Eustace was left standing with a headache.
Without time to think, he drove to Perry Residence. He wanted to explain to Danika before the news of their breakup went public tomorrow.
Upon reaching Danika’s door at midnight, Eustace knocked, feeling that explaining clearly would prevent any misunderstandings from escalating.Danika was already asleep and unhappy to be woken up by Eustace. When she opened the door, Eustace started to say, “Danika—”
