Even with that, Old Mr.Quincey still told Danika truthfully, “Actually, I don’t know much about it either.I just happened to be in Parrington when this incident occurred, so I learned about it by chance.”
“By chance?”
Danika didn’t believe there could be such a I coincidence.
“Ah, never mind.It was actually because of your grandfather that I knew.He told me about it when he was still the Zellwegers’ servant.”
Old Mr.Quincey knew that Danika didn’t believe him, so he decided to be honest.
Since Danika had already found out that much, there was ] no longer need to hide anything.
“My grandfather? Why would he tell you?” Danika didn’t understand.
Under reasonable circumstances, her grandfather should have kept this a secret and not told Old Mr.Quincey.
“Your grandfather and I were good friends in Bardoff City.Later, when he brought you to Orchid Village, he couldn’t ask the Zellwegers to provide assistance, or it would attract attention. So, I was the I one who had been helping him all these years,”
Old Mr.Quincey explained.Danika seemed to understand the situation a little better as she listened.
However, she immediately thought of something and I asked anxiously, “So, what about my marriage with Eustace?”
“Well, you can consider it your grandfather’s repayment to me.Then again, it’s not quite accurate to say that. It’s more like your grandfather’s way of protecting you,”
Old Mr.Quincey sighed.
He paused briefly and continued, “At that time, no one knew when your father would come to take you back.Your grandfather had to make sure you would be in safe hands.Although the Quinceys were not as powerful as the Zellwegers, we still had some influence in Parrington.Your grandfather made that decision because we would be able to keep you safe on our turf.”
Danika believed most of what Old Mr.Quincey had told her.
He might not be her biological grandfather, but after so many years of spending time together, Danika knew Old Mr.Quincey had always had her best interests at heart.
After a long silence, Danika finally said, “What about my mother? After she gave birth to me…”
“It seems she’s dead,” Old Mr.Quincey said.
He knew that his words might sting, but he spoke the truth.
“Seems?”
Danika frowned, wondering why he couldn’t give a definite answer on whether she was dead or not.
Old Mr.Quincey smiled bitterly and explained, ‘Your father was the only one present at that time.He said she was dead, and there was no evidence to suggest otherwise.Besides, he did erect a tombstone for your mother later on.”
As far as he was concerned, Danika’s mother had passed away.
If she hadn’t, her father wouldn’t have done what he did.
“I see.”
Danika nodded, feeling like she had asked all the questions she could possibly ask.She didn’t know what other question she could raise at this point.
Seeing her like that, Old Mr.Quincey thought of his grandson and decided to say a few more things.
“Eustace doesn’t have an idea about your true identity. But I’m sure you can tell how he feels about you.”
“Are you sure he doesn’t know?”
Danika was somewhat doubtful.
“At least not when he started to like you.I was the one who told him later.”
Old Mr.Quincey chose not to lie, as he didn’t want to risk creating any misunderstandings between the two.
Unfortunately, Danika didn’t think of it the same way.
After discovering Old Mr.Quincey’s kindness toward her was all a lie, she was now skeptical of everything he said.
“Thank you for telling me all of this anyway,” Danika said, thanking him for the information.
She didn’t want to think about anything else for now.Her mind was in chaos.
All these years, she’d thought she was just an ordinary girl from Orchid Village.
Who would have known that things weren’t so simple? And what about her father, whom she’d never met? If he knew she existed, why hadn’t he come to see her all these years? Perhaps he’d forgotten about her existence altogether.
Divorce if There Is No Love
“There’s no need to thank me.You already know everything anyway, don’t you? You’!! know the specifics sooner or later.”
Zachary was helpless.
If it hadn’t been for the fact Danika had found out about almost everything, he wouldn’t have taken the initiative to tell her about all that.
Danika smiled when she heard that, but her smile was a weak and slightly guilty one.She didn’t dare to tell Zachary she was just trying her luck by pretending to have found out about her true identity.
In fact, she didn’t ask about anything when she went to Bardoff City.
On top of that, Mr.Spade had already gone to the hospital before she could get to him.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen downstairs, Eustace instructed the chef to cook the dishes that Danika liked.
Mortimer also walked into the kitchen and looked at Eustace coldly.
“why do you insist on being with that woman?”
Eustace was slightly stunned when he heard this, and did not turn his head to look at Mortimer. He continued to give the chef instructions.
“She’s not a good match for you.I’m telling you this for your own good,”
Mortimer continued.
This time, Eustace turned around and walked toward him.He stopped right before Mortimer and said softly, “Grandpa said that he has told you about Danika’s identity.”
Mortimer was a little taken aback but didn’t deny it.
“In that case, the status problem you pointed out doesn’t exist at all. What is your reason for opposition?”
Eustace looked him in the eyes.He stared at Mortimer intently, as if he wanted to see through the latter.
Mortimer felt uncomfortable under his piercing gaze.
He coughed dryly and then said, “I object to your relationship with her because I think you’re not suitable for each other. It has nothing to do with her identity.”
As soon as he said that, Eustace couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
He couldn’t comprehend how Mortimer was able to utter bullshit that he didn’t mean at all.
“1m not suitable for her, but you think Alfred is right for her, don’t you?”
Eustace asked with a frosty expression.
Evidently, he could see through Mortimer’s wishful thinking thoroughly.
Before Mortimer found out about Danika’s identity, the reason he would object to their relationship was understandable.
After all, people like him attached great importance to benefits and interests.
Back then, Danika could not bring anything to the table in his eyes, so he naturally wouldn’t agree for them to get together.
But now, that problem no longer existed.
Not only that, but once Danika officially returned to her family, he would be the less significant party instead.
In this case, Mortimer had no reason to object.
However, his opposition, coupled with Alfred going to Danika’s company to work, suggested that the father and son duo were plotting something behind the scenes.
Eustace was relatively certain of this.
When Eustace mentioned Alfred, Mortimer was not surprised.
He didn’t plan to hide it from Eustace in the first place.
“Alfred…He’s your brother.”
“Heh.”
Eustace snorted sarcastically, looking into Mortimer’s eyes as if he was looking at a fool.
“I know the events back then made you hate me, but Eustace, don’t you understand how painful it is to live with someone you don’t love? You should be able to understand me.”
He sighed, trying to seek Eustace’s forgiveness.
It was a pity Eustace was never exactly a soft-hearted person.
Hearing him say that, Eustace could barely hold himself back from punching his father.
“If you don’t love someone, you can divorce them, instead of hurting them the way you did!”
