Noah requested, “Can you provide a rough summary?”
Reuben said, “Currently, it’s clear skies all the way. Don’t worry, sir. Kenny is traveling with Ms. Healy.”
Noah’s expression darkened as he ordered, “Keep a close eye on Mount Zenya’s weather and inform me Immediately of any changes.”
“Understood, sir!”
At 2:00 a.m., Tyler was awakened by Liora’s sleep–talking. He quickly got up, turned on the bedside lamp, and moved to Liora’s bed.
Seeing Liora tossing and turning, drenched in sweat, Tyler felt sympathy. He softly called out to her, “Lia?
I’m here. Don’t be scared.”
Just as Tyler was about to hold Liora’s hand, she suddenly woke up, sitting upright. She looked around in panic and burst into tears upon finding only Tyler.
“Ty…” Liora threw herself into Tyler’s arms, calling out to him.
Tyler’s expression softened, and he comforted Liora gently, “I’m here. Don’t be scared.”
“I want Daddy… I want to see Daddy,” Liora cried loudly.
Tyler tensed. “You want to see scumbag Daddy, even after everything?”
“He’s not a scumbag Daddy anymore. He’s the good Daddy who saved me from the bad man,” Llora insisted Tyler checked the time and noticed it was past midnight. “Lia, I’ll help you reach out to him tomorrow, okay? It’s too late now.”
Liora clung to Tyler tightly. “Will Mommy blame me…”
“No. Mommy told me not to stop you from seeing Daddy before she left, Tyler assured her.
Liora wiped her tears and looked at Tyler, “Will Daddy come and see me?”
“If he won’t, I’ll take you to see him,” Tyler declared, determined to protect Liora from fear, even if meant dealing with Noah.
“I won’t reveal our identity to Daddy,” Liora murmured softly.
Tyler nodded. “Alright. We must keep Mommy’s secret. Now, let’s get some sleep.”
Liora lay down, preparing to sleep, but she noticed a sticky note and pulled it off.
Curious, Tyler leaned over and asked, “What’s on the note?”
Liora replied, “It’s not from me. It’s Mommy’s handwriting.”
Tyler took the sticky note and read, “Liora, I know that it’s very hard for you to get past this incident. You’re the bravest child, and you’ve experienced something that others won’t even experience in a lifetime. I hope that I get to see you being mischievous as you usually are when I’m back.”
Liora clutched the sticky note tightly once Tyler had finished reading it. Tears streamed down her face as she spoke. “Ty, I won’t let Mommy worry about me anymore.”
Tyler nodded and replied, “You’re the best, Lia River and Kenny arrived in Staten City early in the morning and left for Fawn County after the workers loaded the goods onto the truck.
River immediately called the children when she got into the truck.
The call was quickly answered. Tyler and Liora’s voices and heavy breathing could be heard. “Have you landed, Mommy?”
River smiled upon hearing Liora’s different voice. “What are both of you doing? Are you on a run?”
“Yes, Mommy! We’re out for a run with Eira!” Liora replied swiftly.
River felt relieved. “You’re awesome, Lia. I’m already in Staten City, and I’ll be back after delivering the goods.”
“Sure! Ty and I will be waiting for your return.”
River exchanged pleasantries and hung up.
The truck driver, Rhett Callan, glanced at River and remarked, “You look so young, yet you already have children.”
River touched her face and replied, “Can’t you tell?”
“I can’t tell. Are you from the big cities?” Rhett asked.
River nodded. “It’s quite a distance from here, indeed.”
Rhett asked, “Is this your first time on such a steep mountain?”
“Yes. Are you from here?” River asked.
Rhett replied, “I’m from Mount Zenya, and that’s my hometown!”
River was stunned. “Is that so? Can you tell me about the situation there?
“It’s tough. I don’t know how else to describe it, but I’m not highly educated, so my speech isn’t very polished.” Rhett sighed.
“It’s fine. The weather looks pretty good,” River said as she looked at the clear sky.
Rhett cautioned, “The weather may seem fine now, but it might change in an hour or two.”
River asked, “Will we still be able to descend if it rains?”
“No! You better pray that it doesn’t rain during our return trip. Otherwise, the truck might slide down the mountain if the road is too slippery,” Rhett warned.
River shivered at the thought.
Seeing River’s pale face, Rhett chuckled. “Don’t worry. It’s not that extreme.”
River felt embarrassed and replied, “You’re quite the joker, sir.”
River leaned against her seat and fell asleep not long after, perhaps due to her lack of sleep on her red-
eye flight.
Suddenly, River felt a few drops of ice–cold liquid on her face. She opened her eyes slowly and saw dark clouds gathering outside the truck, accompanied by constant rain.
Rhett sat next to her, gripping the steering wheel tightly with a serious expression.
River sat upright and asked, “How long until we arrive at Mount Zenya, sir?”
“This is Mount Zenya, but we’re heading uphill. It will take about half an hour,” Rhett replied.
River questioned, “Should we stop now that it’s raining?”
“We can’t stop. Given the current weather, stopping could lead to a landslide burying us! That would be”
troublesome!” Rhett emphasized.
River looked at the heavy downpour and the treacherously high mountain road without a guardrail.
Chills ran down her spine.
Half an hour later, her phone rang. River answered upon seeing Kenny’s call.
“Kenny, what’s wrong?” River asked.
Kenny replied, “G, it’s raining heavily. The truck driver mentioned it’s dangerous. What about yours?”
River reassured him, “Tell your driver to be cautious. We’ll arrive in another half an hour. Hang in there. We can’t stop now.”
“I’m okay! But, are you scared?” Kenny asked.
“Don’t worry about me. I’m fine,” River answered, “Got it.” Kenny was about to end the call when his driver gasped.
“Oh no! There’s a landslide due to the heavy rain!” The driver looked ahead fearfully.
Following the driver’s gaze, Kenny spotted soil washing down the mountain.
Shortly after, he heard River scream.
Kenny urgently shouted into his phone, “G! There’s a landslide! Lots of soil is coming down!”
A muffled sound followed his words.
Kenny traced the sound to see a large rock rolling downhill.
The rock was heading straight for River’s truck!
Kenny’s eyes widened in shock. “G! A rock is coming!”
The rock crashed down just as his voice faded, and fear filled Kenny’s eyes.
‘River!”
At MK.
Reuben hurriedly entered the meeting room with his tablet.
The executives were engrossed in a project discussion, and Reuben’s sudden entrance stunned them.
Noah frowned deeply and sternly told Reuben, who had barged in unceremoniously, “Reuben, leave if you don’t want to work here anymore!”
Anxious, Reuben blurted out, “Ms. Healy has been in an accident, sir! There was a landslide, and a rock Noah froze upon hearing the news.
