Concerned, Tyler asked, “When do you think Mommy will return, Papa Wilson?”
Scott answered, “I can’t be certain because I don’t know the extent of her injury yet. If it’s serious, It might. take some time. There’s something called a critical stage. If it’s not serious, she should be back in a few days The children’s faces turned pale as they thought about the term ‘critical stage‘.
Scott stood up, held their hands, and said, “Come. I go upstairs with you.”
Disappointed, Tyler and Liora followed Scott upstairs.
Eira looked at them and asked, “Will you stay back for a little while, Dr. Wilson?”
Eira scratched her head in embarrassment and explained with a smile, “I want Dr. Wilson to bring up some drinks quickly.”
Tyler and Liora understood and went upstairs.
Scott stayed with Eira as they walked to the dining room. Eira frowned at him. “Mr. Wilson, your words are scaring the children.”
Scott looked at Eira nonchalantly. “Which words?”
Eira replied, “The critical stage!”
Scott took his time pouring the milk. “I was just telling the truth.”
“It is the truth, but I’m worried the children won’t sleep tonight after hearing that!” Eira said.
Scott turned to Eira. “Everyone should face the truth, including children. They can’t be protected forever.”
Eira was speechless but still felt it was inappropriate to say that to the children. It would be better for them to know later than anxiously waiting for an update now, especially since she knew River was severely injured.
After pouring the milk, Scott smiled at Eira. “Don’t worry. I’ll keep them company.”
Eira found Scott’s behavior strange, but she couldn’t quite figure it out.
At Xander Residence.
Greta hurriedly had Thomas call Neil after learning about the incident. She felt guilty and couldn’t eat when she heard about River’s condition.
Thomas brought a bowl of soup to Greta. “You should eat something, Greta.”
Greta shook her head. “I don’t feel like eating. You eat.”
Thomas placed the soup down and sat beside Greta. ‘Regardless, River is still in the hospital, no matter how much you blame yourself.”
Yuliana entered the room as he spoke. “Mom, did you hear about River’s accident?”
She closed the door behind her.
Thomas sighed. “Don’t bring this up. Your mother is already feeling bad.”
Yuliana was confused. “Why is she feeling bad?”
Thomas explained, “She feels bad for River getting injured.”
Yuliana was puzzled. “How is her injury related to Mom feeling bad? Why does she care about someone who isn’t close to her? River is still alive.”
Greta scolded her daughter. “She’s your cousi Yuliana was displeased. “Mom, River doesn’t even consider herself a part of the Xanders. Why are you so eager to welcome her into the family?”
“Even if she won’t join the family, she’s still your cousin!” Greta said sternly.
Yuliana was infuriated. “I refuse to accept someone like her, with her behavior, as part of this family!”
Greta said, “You’ve been acting more and more eccentric lately!”
Yuliana’s eyes reddened with tears as she retorted, “How can you call me that because of River? All in all, she doesn’t deserve to be a part of our family because of her behavior!”
Meanwhile, Daniella overheard their conversation on her way to visit Grayson at the hospital. Her expression turned fierce as she realized the Xanders knew about River’s identity.
“It must be Neil who told them, right? It’s bad enough that he’s been opposing me, but how did he find out about this? Are they going to kick me out of the family? I’ll deal with them first,‘ she thought.
Daniella walked downstairs and headed to the hospital.
Twenty minutes later, she entered Grayson’s room and greeted him sweetly, “Grandpa.” Grayson smiled and held out his hand to Daniella. “You don’t have to visit me every day, Ella.”
“How can I do that, Grandpa? You might feel lonely if I don’t visit, Daniella said as she sat down beside Grayson, wrapping her arms around him.
“Uncle Thomas has been busy with work, and Aunt Greta is handling household matters. Yuliana seems to be dating someone, so she’s also occupied and hasn’t had time to visit you,” Daniella explained, letting out a sigh. “Grandpa, do people have to deal with loneliness as they grow older?”
Grayson’s expression gradually turned sour as he contemplated the lack of visits during his hospitalization.
“How many times have they actually come to see me?” he wondered aloud. “And where is your brother?
It’s been days since he last visited.”
Daniella raised her head, pretending to be surprised. “Don’t you know, Grandpa? A falling rock almost hit River.”
Grayson was briefly stunned before anger flared in his voice. “Is he with that awful woman?”
Panicked, Daniella quickly covered her mouth. “I’m not sure, Grandpa. He might just be caught up with work.”
Grayson declared, “I’ll have someone track his whereabouts!”
Trying to calm him down, Daniella gently caressed Grayson’s back. Please, Grandpa, don’t get upset. It’s my fault for making you angry with my words.”
Grayson held Daniella’s hand tightly. “Ella, I know you care about me the most in this family. Since these ungrateful people won’t visit me, they no langer deserve to stay in our family residence. I’ll remove them.”
A cunning glint sparkled in Daniella’s eyes. “Grandpa, this might infuriate Uncle Thomas. He’s been dedicated to managing the company, after all.”
“He’s an ungrateful brat! Ella, no more games. I’ll transfer you some shares, and you can help oversee the company as a shareholder,” Grayson declared.
“So this old geezer is finally willing to give me a piece of the family assets,” she thought, surprised that her provocation had paid off so easily.
An hour later, Grayson called Thomas and ordered him to leave the family residence. Shortly afterward, he arranged for an announcement to be made that Daniella would join the company as a shareholder.
When Thomas received these updates, he appeared composed. He went to the balcony and dialed Neil’s number.
As Neil answered the call, he asked, “Uncle Thomas, is this about Daniella?”
Sipping his coffee, Thomas replied, “Neil, let’s talk honestly. How many projects did you divert?”
Neil was taken aback. “So, you know about that?”
Thomas sighed. “You’re my sister’s child. I know you well.”
Neil admitted, “I’ve already shifted all the major projects, but the remaining smaller ones won’t sustain the Xander Group.”
“In that case, Daniella’s entry won’t have a significant impact,” Thomas observed with a bitter chuckle.
Neil asked anxiously. “Is Grandpa kicking you out?
“Yes, it seems that way. I didn’t expect this after all my years of work for him. He’s growing old and easily influenced,” Thomas replied.
Neil understood who had influenced Grayson. “I’ll be back tomorrow, Uncle Thomas. Don’t leave just yet!”
Thomas considered it for a moment. “Alright, come later. River is still in critical condition.”
Nell reassured him, “Someone is looking after her. Noah is here.
Thomas was slightly surprised. “Was Noah’s relationship with River real?”
Neil disclosed, ‘All three of River’s children are his. It’s only right for him to care for her now. Uncle Thomas, River hasn’t told Noah about the kids. Please don’t mention it to him.”
Thomas struggled to regain his composure after hearing Nell’s remark.
The following morning, the doctor arrived to examine River Noah had bloodshot eyes from a sleepless night. He closely observed every move the doctor made.
Once the doctor was done, Noah hurriedly asked, “How is she?”
The doctor removed his mask and replied, “She has passed the critical stage, and now we wait for her to regain consciousness.”
Noah pressed further, “When can she be moved to a regular ward?”
The doctor said, “We need to keep her under observation a bit longer, but she can be transferred tomorrow afternoon.”
Noah persisted, “When can I transfer her to another hospital?”
He didn’t doubt Fawn County Hospital but would feel more at ease if River received treatment elsewhere.
The doctor explained, “We must wait for her to regain consciousness first. Are you in a hurry to leave? We can provide caregiving services here”
“We don’t need a caregiver. I’ll take care of her,” Noah insisted.
The doctor nodded and added, “We can’t predict her condition accurately yet. She suffered a brain hemorrhage, and it will take time for her to wake up.”
Noah’s expression soured as the doctor left the room.
Noticing Noah’s exhaustion, Reuben suggested, “Mr. De Marco, would you like to rest while I stay?”
“No, I’ll stay until she wakes up,” Noah declined.
