She leaned back, her eyes rimmed in tears, bloodshot.
She had purple bags under her eyes like she hadn’t slept and her clothes were still blood covered from the attack we had been on before I had slipped away.
But I was back now, and the tears of my mate were almost too much.
“Don’t cry, Spitfire. I’m here,” I said, holding her to me.
“How dare you?” she cried, her tears soaking my shoulder.
I stared up at the detailed ceiling of the hospital, patting her white hair down.
“I didn’t kiss her to hurt–” I started, but Lorelai sat up, looked at me like I had lost my last brain cell, then slapped me on the chest.
I coughed as it ached, then gave her the same stare.
“You think I don’t know why you did it? I don’t care about that. I care that you tried to die on me. That you left me for two whole days to wonder how the fuck I was meant to live, to raise our twins without you!” she said, getting angrier and angrier.
I smiled softly at her, wiping her tears from her cheek.
“I would never do that to you, Mate. And I didn’t try to die, technically you–” I stopped when her tears fell faster. Her pain pierced me.
“I’m so sorry,” she slumped onto me again, “I thought I killed you. Cain passed out four times trying to heal you. I tried. But you wouldn’t wake up,” she cried.
It was unbearable.
“I wasn’t dead, Spitfire. I was taken somewhere,” I whispered for only her.
I didn’t know who else was in the room yet, my senses honed in on her.
She frowned and leaned back. I pulled her back in, curling her into me, using the link to communicate just in case.
‘I was with the one who whispers to you,’ I said softly.
She tensed, ‘So I’m not going crazy?’
‘You are but only because you have three werewolf alpha mates and three children. Not because you hear voices,’ he chuckled.
Lorelai laughed through her tears, tucking her head into me, “I missed you.”
‘I missed you too. But I saw something else, Spitfire. The whispers are from a boy. Well, actually I think it was a collective.
Witches that were trapped in some kind of cavern. They were in cages,’ I explained.
She let me explain it all, waiting until I had told her about the riddles before she sat up, holding herself up on her arm as she lay next to me.
“How did they get there? Who was keeping them hostage? The rogues?” she asked, her mind already spinning. I smiled at her cute as hell thinking face.
“I missed this face,” I smiled, cupping the back of her neck to bring her down to me.
I found her lips, kissing her fully, savoring the taste I had betrayed.
“I’m so sorry,” I whispered against her lips.
She shook her head, climbing on my waist, still kissing me.
“Don’t be. Heather is weak. We tracked her blood all the way back to the water villages. Which we still can’t get into but we can sense them on the other side of the magic they have up which we couldn’t before.”
“I shouldn’t have done it the way I did. Or at least communicated what I was doing in the link. That powder–“
“Cain already told me about the powder prank. I got it. And I’m over it,” she said, but her smirk was too cheeky. She knew something else.
“I am going to be punished in some kind of way later, aren’t I?” I asked, running my hands up her thighs. Her smirk widened, and she trailed her finger down my chest.
“Not by me,” she shrugged.
Damn. Crazy Kai. In all the trapped witches, out of body experience shit, I had forgotten that he was going to really kill me.
“You explained the whole powder distraction so I could stab the bitch right?”
Spitfire nodded, “Yup.”
“And he didn’t give a shit?” I assumed.
She shook her head, “Nope.”
“And that brings you a little bit of joy doesn’t it, Spitfire?”
“Maybe just a little,” she held her fingers up with a millimeter space between them.
“In my defense, she kissed me and I just went with it so I could get the knife, I did try to warn you,” I said.
She leaned down to kiss me again, “It still hurt.”
“I know, and for it, I will gladly take my Kai beating,” I smirked.
Lorelai grinned then covered my mouth with hers.
She didn’t stop kissing me until we were both panting, breathless and naked.
Spitfire slammed down on my cock, her perfect pussy gripping me tight as she rode me.
It was exactly what I needed.
“Don’t ever kiss another female again, Brax,” she panted as she fucked me, her nails digging into my chest, “Or I will let Kai kill you. Hell, I’ll do it myself,” she snapped like the true spitfire she was.
I smirked, “I kiss another female and I’ll let you,” I promised.
She grinned and rode me harder until the wooden bed was creaking beneath us and she was moaning, crying out.
“I won’t let him this time though,” she gritted out, “I like your dick in me too much,” she smirked.
I chuckled then pulled in for more of her sweet mouth.
Our orgasms came fast, but they were intense.
I held her against me as she screamed into my shoulder, my hips tilted so I was buried to the hilt.
I kissed her neck, my hand gripping her shoulder, my arms holding her.
Her pussy clutched my length, milking it until I was shuddering my release onto her thigh as she lifted off me.
Then she collapsed back down and we caught our breaths together.
She traced the lines of my pecs. “It was terrifying, Brax. To think you wouldn’t wake up.”
“I know. I’m sorry,” I whispered, kissing the top of her head.
I wound my fingers through hers, and she kissed the top of mine. “I’m sorry. I should have trusted you to know what you were doing. I should have listened to your shadows.”
“But then I wouldn’t have seen the boy in the cage,” I said. And that felt vital somehow. More vital than stabbing Heather. I needed to get the riddles to Cain and see if he had heard Tabby say anything.
But before I could tell Lorelai that I was going to do that, Kai’s distinct rage roar echoed through the room, the windows shaking at the noise.
I peered up over Lorelai to see Kai in the doorway, taking up the whole archway with his bulk.
His hair was shaggier than normal. He wasn’t wearing a shirt, and his claws were already out.
“Little Luna. Untangle yourself from Braxton so I can have a few words with our Alpha about how we treat our mate,”
Kai said, only just keeping the snarl out of his words. I was guessing that was because he was addressing our Luna.
I sighed. I deserved a hit, I knew that. But that was all he was getting. Then I was pinning the fucker with my shadows until he saw reason.
Knowing Kai and his issues, that could take a while.
