“I’m not afraid because I’m no longer the Emma who allows others to bully her. Plus, I have you now,” Emma replied calmly, her confidence shining through. “If we weren’t on the plane right now, I would kiss you until you were breathless,” Eric tried to stay relaxed as he held back his passion. He embraced Emma tightly as he breathed in her heavenly scent. There was nothing in the world quite like it. He rested his head on her shoulder, just breathing, feeling like he could stay there forever.
After the long flight, the plane finally landed. Nathan’s older sister, Mia, was waiting for them just outside the arrivals hall. When she finally spotted them, she excitedly gave each one a hug, even Emma. Mia was quite tall and lean, with an elegant figure. She wore one-of-a-kind custom-made clothes and took pleasure in knowing that nobody else could purchase them anywhere. Unfortunately, she wasn’t blessed with conventional beauty; otherwise, she would have pursued a career as a model. It had taken her a while to come to grips with her looks, but she eventually realized she could make her mark in other ways. As she soon discovered, she had an exceptional eye for spotting talent. Although her artists weren’t all famous, they were all successful in the entertainment world.
Even though Nathan and Emma had dated for years, Emma had only seen Mia twice during that time. Emma did not like women who tried to control others, and Mia specialized in controlling Emma. “I’ve already heard about what happened between you and Nathan, and I’ve already scolded him. But you need to keep your work and personal lives separate. It’s not right for you to cause trouble at work for your own personal gain,” Mia criticized Emma in front of everyone. She was obviously trying to assert her power right from the start.
“For Secret Magazine’s shoot, show some respect, listen to their requests, and don’t make things difficult for Nathan, okay?” Lisa started getting irritated with Mia. Why was Mia picking on Emma instead of trying to teach Amber a lesson? Did she think that just because Emma was now in her territory, she could make her suffer as she pleased?
Emma, however, remained calm. She just looked at Mia and smiled. She didn’t lose her temper or agree to anything. Her lack of reaction made it impossible for Mia to know what she was thinking. What plans could Emma possibly have running through her mind?
The group headed towards the airport exit. At the same time, Eric and some of the management team from one of his subsidiary companies were also moving toward the exit. When she saw Eric, Mia lost her poise and reacted as if she’d spotted a superstar. She ran after him, despite wearing four-inch heels. She would love to be able to say that she knew Eric Roberts. He was famous with an aura of royalty and was more eye-catching than any celebrity she knew.
“Mr. Roberts! Mr. Roberts!” she called upon hearing her shouts. Eric turned around to see Mia and the group. He focused only on Emma, though, as they conversed through their eyes. Emma understood the look in Eric’s eyes. He wanted her to find a chance to move to his house so that she could stay by his side. Emma smiled understandingly. She would try her best.
After turning around and saying Emma, Eric pretended not to notice Mia. Instead of responding to her shouts, he got into the limousine that was waiting for him outside the airport. All Mia could do was watch from a distance as Eric left. “You look ridiculous, Mia,” Lisa sneered inside. “Did you really think the head of Kaleidoscope Entertainment would pay attention to you?”
Even though Mia hadn’t gotten to speak to her idol, she was still excited. “I never expected to run into Eric Roberts here. Did you see him? He’s absolutely gorgeous,” she gushed. Ashley smiled to herself as she thought, “There’s something else you’d never have expected. The person you were bullying just now is Eric Roberts’ wife.”
Emma maintained her composure as she put on her sunglasses, like nothing had just happened. At the same time, Mia regained her poise and demeaning manner. Now she spoke directly to Emma, ignoring Ashley and Lisa. “You need to go to the hotel and get some rest. I have a driver who will take you. Nathan, Amber, and I have a family dinner to attend. We’ll see you tomorrow.”
“A family dinner?” Mia had obviously accepted Amber as her sister-in-law. For Emma, it would have been natural if she felt left out. Mia obviously wanted her to be at a loss. But Emma had done quite a bit of traveling before her relationship with Nathan, and she certainly had no intention of letting Mia boss her around.
“I haven’t been here in a long time. I think I’ll actually go visit some old friends. I’m sure they would be happy for me to stay with them while I’m here, so you can cancel the hotel room. That’s fine with me,” Mia responded. She couldn’t say goodbye without getting the last word, however. “But when it’s time for you to be on set, you’d better be on time.”
Amber hadn’t said a word during the interaction between Emma and Mia. She just watched in silence, enjoying seeing Mia order Emma around. No one could miss that Mia was picking on her. For Mia, though her treatment of Emma was mild, no matter how much she disliked Emma, she would hold back a little for the sake of her younger brother. Does Emma still think she can make a comeback? Amber wondered. It’s my turn now. This is going to be the break I’ve been waiting for.
After putting Emma in her place, Mia left the airport with Nathan and Amber. As soon as they had driven away, Emma phoned Eric. “Have you gone far?” she asked. “Of course not, I’m just around the corner,” Eric replied. He had already instructed his driver to wait out of sight. He knew Emma would find a way to get away from the others, and he was right. Emma smiled to herself and stepped to the curb. In less than a minute, the limousine had pulled up in front of her. The driver politely opened the door for her and welcomed her, along with Lisa and Ashley.
Lisa had met Eric before, but this was the first time Ashley had been so close to him. She didn’t have the nerve to look at him directly in front of Emma. He might reveal his rare gentleness in front of everyone else. However, he gave the impression that he was cold as ice. “Are you worried about the shoot with Secret magazine?” Eric asked as he handed Emma a glass of red wine and gently brushed his hand through her long, soft hair.
“Those three are planning something. They’re definitely looking to create trouble for me. I wouldn’t be surprised if they even tried to replace me. And I found out that I’d wasted my time coming here. But don’t worry, I’m going to prepare for anything,” Emma explained. “He’s such a bully. You should have heard her trying to criticize Emma for mixing her personal and professional life, and she even had the nerve to tell her to show up on time for the photo shoot,” Lisa complained angrily.
“She thinks she can boss you around because you don’t know anyone here. What makes you think I don’t know anyone here?” Emma asked confidently.
Mia is such an ass
