Then, the voices of two men sounded out!
“Mr. Gardner, I wouldn’t have used cheap second–hand mattresses to replace high–end ones if it wasn’t to help you make money! But I got caught by that new CEO of Taylor Group and lost my job. No one in Solana City will accept me! You can’t just watch me suffer!”
“Don’t tell me you were helping me. Haven’t you also pocketed a hefty sum? Added with the money I gave you, you won’t starve even if you spend the rest of your life jobless.”
One of the voices was Michael Grant’s, and the other was Dylan Gardner’s! The reporters were flabbergasted.
Dylan broke out into a sweat. He steadied himself against the table as he nearly lost his balance. “What is this?! Who played it? Switch it off! Hurry up!”
The audio clip stopped playing, but new images appeared on the screen. They were pictures of Michael and Dylan visiting a nightclub together!
“Mr. Gardner! This is not what you promised me! You promised to protect me!”
“I have protected you. I haven’t ratted you out even after this incident got exposed.
Michael, just go into hiding, keep your mouth shut, and you’ll be fine. If you dare run your mouth, I’ll make sure that you suffer!”
The pictures and audio clips were solid evidence.
Dylan yelled fiercely while his face was as red as a tomato. “They’re fake! They’re all fake!
The person in the audio clip isn’t me! Someone is setting me up!”
At that moment, a loud bang ripped the air. The conference hall doors burst open, and two rows of men filed in. They were all wearing suits with a red badge on their lapels.
Then, Silas walked in. He attracted everyone’s attention. He led the two rows of officers to Dylan with an intimidating air. “Dylan Gardner, CEO of Gardner Group. Now that there is solid evidence, KS Group has formally charged you with abuse of power, bribery, and other crimes. Take him away!” said Silas.
“That’s nonsense! I didn’t do it! I didn’t!” The two rows of officers surged forward and dragged a struggling Dylan outside. All the cameras were pointed at him. Everybody on the Internet witnessed the dramatic scene. What a turn of the tables!
“What a plot twist! This press conference is even more interesting than a movie!”
“It turns out that KS Group is the real victim! Dylan was the pot calling the kettle black and threw shade on the Taylor Group for no reason!”
“Dylan’s character is worse than trash! He’s disgusting!”
“How fucking interesting! Who exposed all the evidence? It was such great timing!” Xavier clapped his hands in amusement. “The Gardner Group will never rise again!”
“That was a set–up,” said Jeremy coldly.
“Huh?”
“The Taylor Group already guessed that Dylan would push all the blame on Michael. That’s why they sent that reporter to ask those critical questions and push Dylan to the edge so he would use Michael to save his own ass. Then, they exposed the evidence of Dylan and Michael colluding with each other to give them the final blow.”
…
“What you mean is that reporter was sent by the Taylor Group?” Xavier exclaimed in shock.
“Most probably. And the officers too.” Jeremy’s expression was unfathomable. Although he had watched Liana’s brother being arrested, he showed no emotion.
Before Dylan had pushed the blame on Taylor Group, Jeremy had thought that they didn’t have to cause such a big fuss. However, when that idiot had lied and altered the facts, Jeremy’s last feelings of mercy toward the Gardner Group disappeared.
After Dylan had been taken away and the officers dispersed, the cameras captured the stern–looking Silas. The people watching the live stream went into an uproar again.
“He has my heart! Although he’s so hot, he’s not a celebrity but a law enforcer!”
Jeremy narrowed his eyes and jerked forward in his seat. He pinned his gaze on Silas. This was the same man he had met at the bar and the hospital! He had been so intimate with Allison and looked exactly like Jonah! Who exactly was he?
Jeremy took a screenshot. He uploaded it onto the facial recognition app he had developed himself. After ten minutes of scanning and searching, the results appeared. “Silas Taylor, Officer of Solana City’s Investigative Bureau.”
The picture that appeared was from the court’s official webpage. It was from three years ago. Silas was wearing a robe and debating in court passionately.
The app Jeremy developed could find information on any person within five minutes. All it needed was a clear image of them uploaded to the app. The results were more accurate than those from search engines.
However, it had taken up to ten minutes to search Silas up. He was obviously someone who very seldom went out in public or took pictures. He didn’t have any social media accounts either. He was just an officer, but why was he so secretive?
“Jonah Taylor… Silas Taylor…” Jeremy thought for a moment and suddenly widened his eyes. “Could he be 19
Jeremy narrowed his eyes, and a stormy expression appeared on his face. His mouth went dry. He found it hard to breathe. So Allison never rejected anyone and immediately got close to Jonah after leaving him. Now, she had something going on with another guy from the Taylor family! Who did she think she was?
Right then, Jeremy heard the sound of a sports car coming from behind. He looked out the window as a black sports car zoomed past. It was Allison’s car! Why would she be here?
Things weren’t that simple!
He felt as if a fire was burning in his chest. He smashed his fist against the window.
“Xavier! Chase after that car!”
The hotel entrance was swarming with reporters, and the officers had to go to a lot of trouble to get Dylan into the car. The press conference ended in disaster. Silas did not follow them to the car but went to the back exit to wait for his sister patiently. A few minutes later, a black sports car stopped before him.
Sean wound down the window and said, “Good day, Mr. Silas.”
“Hello, Sean!” Silas stooped to look at Alyssa, who was leaning against the passenger seat. He smiled and pinched his sister’s cheek. “It seems like Sean has been taking good care of you lately. You’ve even grown chubbier.”
“I did not!” Alyssa said angrily and pouted.
“You obviously did. You look even more adorable!”
Her brother was saying that she had gained weight the moment they met. How insensitive! No wonder he had been single since he was born! Meanwhile, Jeremy saw them being intimate with each other. His expression darkened, and he clenched his fists tightly.
Xavier trembled when he saw Jeremy’s expression in the rear–view mirror. Even so, he thought it was normal for Allison to have so many admirers. After all, she was such an outstanding and beautiful woman. In fact, his boss was the odd one out for not appreciating her.
“What do you think? Do I look handsome today?” Silas raised his eyebrows and looked at his sister playfully.
“Yes, yes, you’re very handsome. You’ve raked in a huge fanbase for yourself this time. A
lot of girls are searching for you online. You’re already on the trending search list,” said Alyssa. She leaned against the door and looked at Silas.
Jeremy glanced at his ex–wife and felt his heart skip a beat. For some reason, he wished that he was in Silas‘ shoes so that he could look at her in the same way. He wanted to see her cheerful expression because she had never smiled at him like that before.
Silas snorted and said, “So what if the whole world likes me? I only want attention from my precious little sister.”
“You’re so corny. A romantic image doesn’t suit you. Being a joker suits you better!” They laughed and returned to the main topic of conversation. “Silas, I need you to help me with what’s coming too.” Alyssa frowned and said, “Don’t let that idiot who slandered us off the hook easily.”
“Don’t worry. He’ll need to spend at least three years in jail for all his crimes. I will never give him a chance to reduce his sentence or let anyone bail him out!” Then, Silas smiled proudly and said, “But we couldn’t have done it without you. You’re really very good at planning. Gardner fell for every trap you set up for him. How cooperative. If every bad guy is as predictable as him, it will save law enforcers a lot of trouble.”
Dylan was very foolish indeed. However, KS Group could only charge him because Michael Grant agreed to be a witness and expose Dylan for using him to embezzle funds.
