I didn’t want to risk it.
So I moved in closer, throwing punches instead.
The witches were strong and the one I picked on had great reflexes.
But was clearly expecting to be fighting a werewolf.
Too bad, bitch.
I fought like a human.
She slammed her fist down into my face, her elbow going straight into my back–which I had been expecting despite the exploding pain.
I went down, kicking her feet out from under her. Then I climbed over her, throwing punch after punch.
She squealed and kicked, not able to use her magic while she was trying to get past my fists.
She threw me off and rolled us on the ground, going for me but I was faster.
I climbed on top again, elbowing her a second before I sat up, and exploded my magic in her face.
Her pre-death squeal dug even further into my brain.
I clutched my head, dropping to the ground as she turned to ash.
But her ash didn’t go to the witches.
I fell forward, my palms splaying as my head throbbed, my nose bleeding, my lips, a cut on my face.
I panted, breathing hard as I prepared for the next fight.
And the ash that laid on the ground beneath me drifted up into my mouth.
I sucked in a breath, the ash inhaling with it.
I instantly felt it. The warmth, the acceptance. The easy way it molded into my magic.
It made it glow inside me and I panted to keep up with the heat of it.
‘No!’ The witches seethed and I smirked, eyeing them.
Well they weren’t so smug now. Good.
I stood up, my limbs moving easily.
Until I was standing.
Then I felt the heaviness in my stomach. The slight tightness, the hardness there that indicated what I was.
Fucking pregnant.
A human had to wait months before being able to birth again and I was rushing through it like a damn hybrid.
‘The joys of magic, Little Luna. Embrace it,’ Kai said in my mind. He was happy, his excitement spilling over into me.
I grinned and shook my head, going towards the witches.
Three left.
But it was the front one I was worried about.
The one who had always stood at the front, who had always broken formation.
She was the one with the glint in her eye. The crazy one that made me sure she wasn’t going to be as easy to take down.
The glowing magic moved inside me and I frowned.
Something teetered there on the edge of my conscious.
A rogue howled as it died, Evelyn making quick work of its blood. It also had my magic flaring.
I could feel the rogues.
I tugged on that feeling and tried to stop it, tried to figure out how to manipulate it but the witches knew what I was doing.
They ran at me.
Derik ran into one, barging it back.
Cain sliced at one.
The front one. She was on me. I blasted her with magic. She dodged it, using her own back at me.
We went back and forth, throwing, dodging, getting hit. Like a well-practiced dance that we both knew.
I shuddered as a ball of gold hit my thigh, almost getting my stomach.
I grunted and stumbled.
I went down and she was on me. She gripped my throat in her hand, the palm warming.
I strained past her grip, kicking, writhing trying to get out.
She stayed emotionless but it was all in her eyes.
She was cackling like a hyena inside her head for sure.
I punched her side, making sure I kept going until her ribs cracked, but she didn’t stop.
I couldn’t breathe; panic set in and I gasped.
My eyes stung, my throat burned.
“Goodbye, Luna,” she echoed.
“Hybrid, bitch,” I snapped, then threw my shadows at her.
Her glow on my throat made it impossible to grasp my magic, but my shadows? They didn’t need magic to get the bitch.
She rolled off me, flipping her head up as she landed on her feet.
I sucked in deep breaths, holding my hand up, ready to blast her.
But Kai came running over, leaping onto her.
He tackled her.
She kicked him off, and he skidded across the mud, racing back, going straight for her leg.
While she was fighting him off, I blasted her with my magic. She blew back, crashing through the empty hut she had fallen into.
I turned to the other two. Derik had his witch in his teeth, but it was a stomach wound. Derik threw him over to Kai, who snapped his neck, catching him easily.
The crunch was disgusting.
But Kai grinned, his big wolfy grin.
The front witch came running forward, swiping the guy Kai had just killed, sucking in his ash as he dissolved in her hands.
“Damn,” I whispered.
Cain fought the witch he was with, back and forth, blade and magic. He was getting backed into a hut though.
I went to help when a shadow whip snapped through the air and wrapped around the witch’s neck.
