She stepped back as Kai nodded to me, “Her life and the child she grows is the only reward I need Tabby. Or Jin, or whoever is giving it to me,” he smirked, scratching the back of his head.
I grinned at Kai, going to take Zale off him.
Jin stepped forward and started walking. We all followed. I was intrigued. Kai wasn’t much for gifts, or at least ones that weren’t sexual.
Jin led us to the small grass patch where we had buried Tabby.
She sat down on the small bench seat, her hands resting on her cane.
Jin turned to Kai, “You could have left us in those cages. We told you to. It wasn’t a part of the plan and meant that you had more rogues here than there were meant to be. It was a risk to your family to go out that way, to take the chains across the chasm. And yet you took it, refusing to leave us behind.”
“Oh, you’re welcome,” Kai smirked, looking awkward as hell. I hid my own smirk and wrapped Zale’s hand in mine. I had never seen Kai awkward before. It was so damn cute.
“The realm is grateful for what you did. So are we. Which is why they are giving you something you have never dared to ask for but is a desire buried deep,” Jin smiled softly.
Kai frowned until Jin walked over to an old gravestone. It was small with a single daffodil lying at the foot of it.
I couldn’t read the letters but Kai’s eyes went wide.
Even Beenie let a gasp out.
Jin turned to her, “You read your signs, trusted they were for good and played a vital part in what the realm needed.
For that, this gift is for both of you,” Jin said then did his whole magic thing again.
He hovered his magic over the gravestone then closed his eyes and formed the gold into another being.
Kai and Beenie held hands, both of them staring at the magic that morphed into a guy.
He was bulky and tall and looked like Kai. But the guy’s black hair was shorter, his green eyes just as striking.
He smirked and turned to Kai and Beenie, “You two look like shit.”
His voice was even deeper than Kai’s.
Kai ran into him, his arms wrapping around him as Beenie did the same, her arms squeezing him at the waist.
“Rowan,” Beenie whispered.
I swallowed. Their brother. The one that had died in the pack when Kai had been captured.
Kai had his face buried against Rowan as they held each other.
Beenie shook and stepped back, her face running with tears.
“I can’t believe you’re back,” she wiped her tears away. Kai pulled away, his eyes rimmed red.
He looked over at Jin, “Thank you,” he said.
“You are welcome. Now I must go see my family, I am sure they are waiting to see me too,” he smiled then wandered away with a casual stride, his hands still behind his back.
So weird.
I turned back to Kai who came over and gave me a kiss.
“Little Luna, meet Rowan, my brother,” he grinned.
“Hi,” I said, not sure what else to say to a wolf that had been dead for years.
He nodded in my direction, his face smiling, “You must be my brother’s mate, sorry about that,” Rowan grinned.
I laughed and looked up at Kai who rolled his eyes.
“I’m just kidding. You’re beautiful and I’m glad he has someone who knows how to handle him.”
I smiled. Beenie introduced Cain and then Rowan looked at Brax and Derik.
“You two haven’t changed. Still advocating world peace, D?”
Derik smirked, “Not just advocating. We’re living it now.”
Rowan hugged him and nodded, “That we are.” Then he moved to Brax, “Good to see you, Brax. You’re looking taller,”
he teased.
We went inside the mansion and the light-hearted teasing carried on like that for hours between the family.
The pack had gone to be with their own while we got to know our latest addition.
We had breakfast together with our small circle, sitting at the private dining table. Rowan reminisced with his siblings, Derik talked plans with Tabitha, Brax argued with Cain. All while our children played and ate, smiling happily.
I looked down at Alaric in my lap and couldn’t help the swell in my heart.
It felt so good to finally be free.
No vengeful vampires. No war-hungry humans. No jealous witches.
Just us. A family. Together.
Kai leaned over and kissed me, “Aren’t you hungry?” He asked, pointing to my full plate.
I smirked and kissed him back, “Not for food,” I teased.
I had just been joking but Kai grinned, standing from the table.
“We’re off to bed,” he announced, half dragging me up.
I blushed and Brax stood, already grabbing Zale. Derik picked up Enzi.
“Already? It’s morning–” Rowan started but Kai shook his head.
“Nope. My mate wants my cock in her and since I’m such a gentleman, I thought I better not do it on the dining table like last time,” he winked.
Rowan smirked as Beenie grimaced, leaning back from the table.
I was going to kill him.
He was already leading me out of the hall.
I chased him down, mortified.
“Kai! Tabitha was there!” I growled.
He shrugged, “She’s a witch, she would have known if I had lied.”
I rolled my eyes then went into the nursery. Brax and Derik were right behind me.
We put the children down for a rest, kissing each of them.
“It is a new day,” I whispered to them, “A better one.”
And then we left to our suite.
It was perfectly clean. The French doors were open, the small table in front of it.
Then our huge bed.
“Bath time, Beautiful,” Derik said, steering me toward it.
I thought about protesting but we were all pretty gross.
We took turns cleaning ourselves then climbed into bed.
I sighed, my pillow feeling so good against my head.
