10 years later
“I said no more,” I snarled at Kai as I clutched the sides of the bed, another contraction breaking through me. This was his fault.
I had made my position on more children very clear. We already had four.
And they were wonderful.
Zale. Enzi. Alaric. Rowan. That was more than enough. I had given them all an heir.
“I am so sorry, Little Luna,” Kai soothed, pointedly drinking the potion he was meant to have taken to avoid this.
Apparently, birth control was a lot harder to manage than I had thought.
All of us had to drink the potion. Every month.
Kai had forgotten his three months ago.
FORGOTTEN.
I was going to forget his cock next time we were all fucking.
“That drink is a waste of time now, don’t you think?” I snapped.
He shrugged, having the decency to blush.
He dabbed a cold cloth over my clammy skin and wiped it down my face.
“I swear, I will remember it every month, no matter what. I just forgot that one time. I was late for training after our morning together and I was meant to take it with me but I left it on the bench and then as the day wore on, it just slipped through the cracks,” he admitted.
That pissed me off more. It wasn’t his body trying to break.
“I don’t mind having another child, we have great children but damn it Kai. It fucking hurts,” I whined, my stomach tightening again.
“I know, and if it makes you feel better, I’ll let you leave me out. One time.” He made the distinction and I smirked. He wouldn’t handle that any more than I would.
I shook my head and breathed through the next contraction.
It was brutal and I was over it. This fifth child was stubborn, taking its sweet time to leave my body.
I had been birthing all damn day. Rowan had been so different, coming fast that Galen and Cain hadn’t even made it in time.
After that, I had been done. And now I was to have another. Not that I minded that part.
Our children were blessed.
Zale and Enzi were powerful, constantly growing in magic and shadow. Alaric was already shifting, his wolf larger than we had seen at his age, his strength already surpassing that of his forefathers.
And Rowan. He was one year younger and competing for the top spot, constantly running and training with Kai. He had the pack mind, the warrior mind.
A splitting image of his father too.
“I am truly sorry for this, Little Luna. I don’t mean for you to be in pain,” Kai murmured against my skin.
I nodded and leaned into him, showing him he was forgiven. For now.
Cain came in then, grinning as he looked at us.
He had been so much better since we had destroyed the witches. His entire demeanor had gone back to the way I remembered him being when we first met.
“Ready to find out if we have a madam or master in there?” He asked, rolling up his sleeves and rubbing his hands together.
I nodded and winced as my body tried to push.
Kai sat next to me and Cain sat at the bottom of the bed.
He lifted my shirt and ran his finger down the center of my stomach.
“Did we miss it?” Brax barged into the suite.
I shook my head, “Just in time. Where’s Derik?” I asked.
Derik came in with a grin, carting a twin on each leg, Alaric on his back and Rowan on his front. He carried them as if they weighed nothing. I laughed at that.
“You’re going to have to find room on you for this one too,” I panted.
“It better be a sister. I’m sick of all the boys round here,” Enzi said in her sassy way, getting off Derik and climbing onto the bed.
Zale scoffed, his tall frame leaning against the post of the bed by my head, “Nah, Uncle Kai said his family had two boys first. I vote that,” he said, flicking his hair out of his face. It was getting longer and longer, like Brax’s. But it was dark like mine used to be. His eyes were still white though.
Enzi had wavy black hair with Brax’s blue eyes. They shimmered like the water and only shifted to white when she used magic.
Their skin was golden tan like his too, not the fair skin I had.
Alaric was the tallest so far. He was almost a year behind but he had shot up. He looked like Derik. Brown curls on top of his head with his facial structure. But he had my eyes, wide and navy. And my little dusting of freckles over the bridge of his nose.
But he carried himself like Derik, shoulders back, arms crossed.
He didn’t speculate, he observed and made informed decisions.
And he could beat everyone at chess. Including Derik.
“I don’t mind what the baby is, I’m just excited we’re getting another sibling,” Alaric smiled.
Which left Rowan. My little Kai. He had shaggy black hair that he clipped back with a wolf pin. He had Kai’s green eyes. But he had my softer face. He was growing big like his dad though.
“Girl. Hundred percent. Care to bet on it?” he grinned, looking to see if there were any takers.
Kai grinned and ruffled Rowan’s hair. His instincts were perfect. The best hunter the pack had ever had. He could sense everything we couldn’t. If it was going to rain, if it was going to be a colder night, if an animal had walked our path before us. Every detail, he saw. It made him fast and gave him a lot of information he used to get his way on a daily basis.
I loved them all so damn much and our family growing wasn’t a bad thing. Just a painful one. And an unexpected one.
Derik sat down on the bed and looked at Cain, waiting for him to start.
He eyed me, “Are you ready?”
I nodded, my body already getting ready to push.
And then it was time and I was screaming, pushing as my family held my hands.
They soothed me, my twins shadows helping smother the pain, Rowan with one hand, Kai holding the other so our wolf tattoos lined up along our arms. Alaric dabbed my forehead and Derik held a leg with Brax on the other.
They helped until I was pushing so hard, our baby expelled from my body. The breath rushed out of me and I let out a relieved sigh, my eyes trying to close.
Galen and Cain were the resident birthers so Galen had left Cain to me. Mom had a cold and Galen was a little crazy about it. He wouldn’t leave her side.
But that was okay because Cain delivered our fifth and final heir.
A tiny little cry came from between my legs and Cain grinned, holding her up for us to see.
“Daddy’s little princess,” Kai whispered.
Oh, she was going to be such a spoiled little thing. Enzi already had Kai wrapped around her finger, now she was going to have a little sister to teach to do the same thing.
“Can I name her?” he asked as Cain wiped her down, got her crying properly before handing her over, laying her on my chest where my shirt was open enough for her to fit there.
“Baby girl,” I whispered, kissing her, rubbing her back gently. She was so soft, so petite. So beautiful with Kai’s bright green eyes. I looked at Kai, raising a brow.
He had named Rowan after his brother and now he wanted the girl too?
“Pretty sure it’s my turn,” I smirked.
“What if I tell you and you can say yes or no?”
