I did look like a bride. I didn’t expect to get emotional over it but I was. My heart tightened as I accepted that maybe I had wanted this after all.
There was a knock at the door then and Enzi ran to answer it.
She dragged Galen in and his brow raised.
“You look stunning, Lorelai,” he said, his own voice wavering.
That was surprising. I grinned and he walked over, handing me a box.
I frowned and took it, “Your mother said you needed a necklace and something borrowed. You can use this if you like,” he offered.
I took the box, my throat already trying to close with emotion.
I opened it and sucked in a breath.
I pulled out the gold necklace, a wolf pendant on the end of it. The chain was made like a vine and it matched the detailing on my dress.
It was beautiful.
“I–this is amazing, thank you,” I whispered.
Galen bowed his head, “I used to wear it every winter when I would wander the forests alone. One winter I found something I didn’t expect and I saw this in my head. I’ve been making it ever since. I finished it the night of the blood moon. I believe this right here, could be why,” he murmured, the emotion in his voice making it tight.
He wasn’t usually one for saying more than he needed to so the fact that he had given the necklace context, had me moving into him for a tight hug.
Mom’s quiet sniffles across the room filled my ears as Galen held me tight.
“I love it,” I said quietly, tears welling in my eyes.
Galen cleared his throat and moved back, “Good,” he said then stepped back. He turned to Mom, “You are so precious, my Pearl,” he said, kissing her on the cheek, looking over her dressed in her own white dress with lace over it.
She blushed and said thank you.
I clasped the necklace on then looked at Mom, smoothing down my dress.
She dried her eyes and patted her own clothes down.
“We’ll be down in a moment, can you get everyone seated?” Mom said.
Galen nodded, gave her a kiss on the cheek again then left.
Enzi grabbed my hand, “Mom, I feel something when Poppa Galen and Nana are close. It’s not like you and Dad. But it’s something,” she whispered.
I smiled at that and eyed Mom who was getting the bouquets together, “We all do, baby.”
After that, there wasn’t time to talk. Mom had us out of the room, bouquets in hand, and ready to walk up the aisle.
The music had already started and my heart raced.
I wasn’t sure why I was nervous but I was. Something about the pressure, the expectations. Was it too late to change my mind?
I took a deep breath as Mom put her arm through and sent Enzi up the aisle first.
“Ready?” Mom asked.
I shook my head. “Don’t think so.”
“Well, you’ve got three seconds. Then you become Mrs. Valarian. Now, you may not think that means much, but our name is strong, and so are we. Can you be one of us, Lorelai?” she asked in a hushed whisper as the crowd’s whispers died.
Could I?
6. The Ceremony
Lorelai
I could.
I had faced a lot more than my own Alphas at the altar.
“Yes,” I answered.
“Of course you can,” she smiled. “You’re my daughter. It’s in our blood,” she said, then urged me down the aisle.
We rounded the water fountain that had been beautifully decorated with candles and flowers, the water bluer than I remembered.
My heart stopped when I saw my mates at the end of the aisle.
Damn, I was a lucky Luna.
I walked down the aisle toward three Alphas who drove me wild in every way, every day.
They were addictive and damn, did they look good in full wedding attire.
The link was buzzing with love and adoration as I walked, trying not to stumble or blush.
Derik had tears in his eyes, his jaw clenched as he stared at me, his eye contact making me shiver. He wore a full shirt with a cream vest that had the same gold detailing. His coat had gold detailing up the sleeves too. His hair was slicked back, his hands clasped in front of him.
He was my affection. The one I knew would always hold me, always take time for me, always show me how much he loved me in everything he did.
Brax had his blonde hair pulled into a braid, his blue braid hanging over his shoulder. His eyes were milky as his shadows hovered. His shirt was tucked in for a change, his coat buttoned with gold wolf pins. He had the same sleeve detailing in gold as I did and I met his eyes.
He wore a smile but his eyes were intense. He was my connection. The winterborn wolf with shadows like mine. I could use them, be myself with them because I trusted him with them. It was our bond, something that no one else had aside from our kids.
And Kai. He wore a vest too, with a shirt underneath and no coat. His gold detailing was on his vest in vines and little flowers just like my dress and the other two Alphas. I had always thought matching would be a bit cringey but seeing them all up there, in white and gold like me, standing out among the plain white crowd, had my heart clenching, my eyes welling.
Kai watched me, his eyes raking over me in my dress. He was the obsession. The obsessed Alpha who knew we were mates before anyone. Who never doubted what we had, who always made sure I knew too. He was the rock that had formed us all into what we were.
He smirked and I knew he was reading my thoughts.
‘ You are perfect, Little Luna,’ he said, choked up even in our link.
‘We are perfect, all four of us,’ I whispered back.
‘You are beautiful, Spitfire. And I say that knowing I have stolen Derik’s word to use,’
Brax smirked, his eyes taking me in.
‘Beautiful is too tame of a word for what you are today, Angel,’ Derik said. Brax cursed under his breath.
‘Damn, and he still made it sound good,’ Brax teased.
I tried to hide my smile down the aisle but they brought it out in me.
Mom handed me over to them as we got to the end of the aisle and the music quietened, growing softer.
Mom kissed each of my cheeks then left me standing there in front of the entire pack, the entire human population, some vampires and our children.
But she left me with my Alphas and it was exactly where I wanted to be.
Galen started talking about marriage and what it meant but I tuned it out.
How could I concentrate when my Alphas stood tall and strong in front of me, looking addictively handsome?
I couldn’t tear my eyes away from them until Galen cleared his throat and Derik took my hands in his.
“Beautiful. You came to us as a hybrid winterborn and you turned everything we knew on its head. But as soon as you did, we knew you were ours. I know I am meant to stand here and tell you what you mean to me, but there are no words in our language or otherwise that could possibly explain it. So instead, I stand here with a promise. A promise to always show you what you mean to me. To always be there when you need me, to always hold you when you cry, to care for you when you are sick. You will never doubt my affections for you and when we stop shifting, grow old and grey together, I will still be by your side, loving you, keeping my promise because this world is better with you in it. My world is better with you in it.”
Tears were streaming in fat globs down my cheeks and I tried not to be gross when I sniffled but that didn’t work.
I beamed up at him, his words etching into my heart like a true oath.
Brax blew out a breath next to Derik and stepped forward to take my hands.
Derik gave them both a soft kiss then let Brax have me.
