Don’t you want to resolve the issue with Scott?” Zeke said.
“I do! He caused the deaths of my mother, Ms. Smith, Kenny, Noah, and my brother! I want him to suffer immensely for all the things he did!” River lowered her head upon saying that. “However, Scott is highly malicious, and I don’t want to get you involved in this.” Zeke said, “You should understand that there’s a risk to any decision made by a businessman. If I lose, it’s just a financial loss. But if Twin, [‘ll gain control of the entire MK.” River agreed with Zeke’s statement.
‘If he can secure the chairman’s position, he will be able to pocket all of MK’s profit. That is a clever plan.’ River raised her glass at Zeke.
“Thank you for doing this.” Zeke raised his glass similarly. “As long as you don’t mind.” Elvira informed Scott about Zeke after she looked him up.
Scott kept quiet briefly upon learning about the situation. “River has received many partnership deals lately.
Let her get on with it.” Elvira said, “However, Zeke’s background—”
“I’m well aware of it. Even though Zeke is influential, he has a normal relationship with River, so he won’t do much for her.” Elvira did not think too much about it upon hearing Scott’s remark.
Time passed, and it was time for River to visit the cemetery.
Early in the morning, as she prepared to leave, she unexpectedly encountered Scott, carrying a bag of flower bouquets.
River was infuriated instantly by the sight of him.
Scott approached River. “T know that you’re visiting the cemetery, SO I’m coming with you.”
River sneered. “Heh! You’re coming to visit the cemetery with me instead of spending time with your fiance?” Scott replied nonchalantly, “She went abroad for a few days to attend to some matters.” River mocked, “So you’re here?” Scott didn’t answer directly but calmly suggested, “Let’s go. I’m coming with you.” River stared at him coldly. “Do you think you deserve to be there? You caused their deaths, yet you have the audacity to face them?” Scott appeared calm and unfazed. “1
just helped them end their suffering in advance.” River couldn’t help shouting at Scott, “What gives you the right to make such a decision? Those are human lives! They are my family members!” Scott remained calm as before. “You want to keep them alive so you won’t regret it later. It’s not a bad thing to let them leave when they spend their days suffering.” “All this talk is just a way for you to absolve yourself of the crimes of murder!” River barked.
Scott replied, “I’m just looking at it from their perspective.” “Would you do that if that were your mother?” River’s body was shaking in anger, Scott lowered his gaze, pursed his lips, and said, “Yes, I did that,” River looked at the merciless Scott incredulously.
Scott looked up and said, “If you don’t want me to come with you, I’ll wait for you to return then.” He handed the bag to River, who slapped it away without even looking at it.
“IT worry that your flower offering might be too much for them to bear!” River turned and walked away soon afterward.
Scott looked at his palm, reddened | from the slap, and felt an ineffable emotion in his heart—a combination of loneliness and helplessness that rendered him speechless.
Meanwhile, Elvira witnessed the scene when she walked out of the villa.
She saw the scattered flowers on the ground and Scott standing still in the same spot. She walked over hastily in preparation to pick up the flowers.
Scott said nonchalantly, “Throw them away.” Elvira stood upright and looked at Scott concerningly. “Why bother, Mr.
Hendrix?” Scott looked at River, who had already gotten into the car. “Let her go.
I owe it to her, after all.” Elvira said, “What do you owe her this time, Mr. Hendrix? You’ve taken care Re of her for so many years!” “Let’s call a spade a spade. I took care of her previously because I was using her. It’s different now,” Scott said.
Elvira said, “Is it because you ordered Daniella to shoot her?” Scott kept quiet. He wanted to use River by provoking her relationship with Noah initially because it would be easier for him to execute his plan by strengthening Noah’s love for River.
However, he had begun to feel guilty toward River lately.
Scott thought, ‘After all, she lost so much because she was made a pawn in my revenge plan. In fact, she almost lost her life because I was using her to get Noah to come back. With all these incidents combined, how can I not feel guilty toward her?” Scott suddenly realized that he did not have feelings for River but guilt.
Scott thought, ‘Yes, it’s only guilt.’ However, Elvira regarded River as being ungrateful. ‘Mr. Hendrix treats her so well, yet she turns her back on him! She deserves to die so she can stop embarrassing Mr. Hendrix!” Elvira did not inquire further but ordered someone to clean up while she left to follow River.
