You can keep screaming if you want.”
Then, she returned to the house. She instructed the staff not to open the door for Liana under any circumstances.
Liana continued to yell for some time until her voice turned hoarse. Yet, there was no sign of Jeremy coming. Her face turned pale as she began to panic and feel confused. She realized Jeremy had changed and could no longer be easily manipulated.
In the past, he would drop everything to see her no matter how busy he was. He would spare no effort to comfort her with expensive cars and jewelry every time she cried. He would spend a fortune just to make her smile. But why was it so difficult for her to see him now?
herself wet and shivering in the cold.
*Jeremy, please, let me see you!”
“What a cheap act! Only a fool would fall for this trick!” Rosie stood by the window and mocked coldly.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps from behind. Rosie turned around to see Jeremy walking toward the entrance with a deep frown.
Rosie was taken aback. She couldn’t believe Jeremy didn’t see through the cunning girl’s pathetic act. He was indeed a fool.
At this moment, Jeremy picked up a black umbrella. His face was calm as he pushed the door open.
“Hey! Mr. Jeremy!” Rosie anxiously called out.
Jeremy continued to walk out with the umbrella. Rosie was so frustrated she stomped her foot.
Outside the door, Liana sat helplessly in the rain, unable to hold on any longer. But as soon as she saw Jeremy walking toward her, she became overjoyed. She turned on her charm and pitifully wept as she collapsed forward.
Jeremy’s eyebrows furrowed. He walked up to her. He held the umbrella over her while using the other hand to forcefully lift her from the ground. His demeanor was firm and adamant, so she could not break free even if she wanted to.
“Jeremy …” Liana murmured, then threw herself into his embrace.
Just moments ago, she seemed frail. But now, she miraculously revived in his presence.
She wrapped her arms tightly around his sturdy waist and leaned against his chest.
A sense of irritability surged in Jeremy’s heart, and he spoke softly, “You have a weak body.
Staying under the rain will make you sick.”
“You wouldn’t have met me if I didn’t do this. I just wanted to see you. Why won’t you meet me?” Liana raised her pale and miserable face, her gaze filled with panic and confusion. “Jeremy … do you no longer love me? Lately, you’ve been cold toward me. Is it because of the incident with the suit? I know I was wrong. I’ll apologize to Allison and beg for her forgiveness. Is that enough?”
“There’s no need. I’m no longer angry,” Jeremy said indifferently. “You’ve seen me now, so you can rest assured. Go home and stay with your family. I will find you once things settle down.”
“Jeremy, please… save my brother, okay?” Liana realized he was becoming impatient, and her face flushed with anxiety. She put down her pride as a wealthy young lady and clung tightly to his muscular body.
“My brother is about to be sentenced! No lawyer in Solana City dared to defend him because of the Taylor family’s power and influence. They have gone too far and are pushing the Gardner family to the edge! Jeremy, you must help us! My family is almost bankrupt. Everything will fall apart once my brother goes to prison! Please, I beg you.”
Jeremy’s gaze remained cold and firm, his tall figure unwavering.
Some might call him heartless, but his love for Liana was persistent. He had kept his promise as a young man until he turned thirty, even if it meant hurting another woman who deeply loved him, and even if it meant bearing the title of an unfilial grandson, he was determined to marry her.
Some might call him compassionate, but he was impartial and resolute when it came to official matters. The Gardner family committed a crime, and he showed no mercy. He was as cold and decisive as a judge in the court of law.
At this moment, Jeremy recalled his ruthless words to Alyssa when negotiating on behalf of the Gardner family and how he used the issue with the Gardner family against Allison. He was instantly filled with regret, and his tone turned frigid.
“The Taylor family is innocent, and your brother is the one who brought this upon himself. I suggest he confess and seek a lighter sentence. That’s the right thing to do. As for the Gardner family, your family should reflect on their mistakes. One rotten apple spoils the bunch. Even if I were to give you another billion, there’s no hope if you don’t address the issues within your own family.”
Liana’s lips trembled, and she was dumbfounded. She had thought that by crying and acting miserable, Jeremy would soften and comply with her as he had done before.
But she was wrong this time. Jeremy used to be lenient with her because she hadn’t crossed a line. But once she overstepped her boundaries, he wouldn’t show mercy even to the woman he loved.
In the end, Jeremy forced Liana, still crying, into the car, instructing the driver to lock the doors. He watched her leave with a tense expression, and only then did he sigh a breath of relief.
He stood in the rain with the black umbrella for a long time, remembering the disappointed look in Allison’s eyes. There was a pang in his heart. He couldn’t stop it even if he wanted to.
With Dylan’s arrest, the Gardner family fell into complete desolation.
Mr. and Mrs. Gardner were not even concerned as Liana returned, covered in mud, her face pale and lifeless. They immediately asked if the Walsh family would intervene on behalf of them or if they would help in hiring a powerful lawyer. However, Liana could only shake her head anxiously with a dejected expression.
“Useless!” Andrew coughed painfully, pointing at her and scolding. “Since you got close to Jeremy, have you ever done anything useful for our family? We’ve been struggling for years. Yet, you haven’t gained any share of the family’s wealth or even gained the Walsh family favor! I don’t believe Jeremy loves you. Having a daughter is just a waste of money!
You’re utterly useless!”
Liana’s eyes turned bloodshot with intense resentment. Andrew had always favored sons over daughters. He’d even forced Rosaline to abort her when he learned she was carrying a girl.
The doctor said she would have issues conceiving again after the abortion. Liana only survived under Rosaline’s persistence.
Rosaline couldn’t conceive again after giving birth to her. That deepened Andrew’s disgust toward her. Liana grew up under the shadow of her older brother and tried to win Sophia’s favor to gain attention.
She lost her childlike innocence at a young age, learning manipulative tactics to secure a better future and gain her father’s approval, becoming a successful woman.
Jeremy became her first experiment when she was eight years old. Initially, she despised him for being an illegitimate child. Her focus was on the legitimate son of the Walsh family instead.
But Sophia suggested she use Jeremy as a stepping stone, even if she didn’t like him.
Having a Walsh to be her lapdog and be at her beck and call would benefit her greatly.
Sophia allowed her to become Jeremy’s savior and the light in his dark life. This led to his obsession with her.
Throughout this process, she greatly helped the Gardner family. But in the end, Andrew still treated her as a tool to gain favor with the powerful. The slightest mistake and he deemed her as worthless.
Liana felt a malicious idea form in her heart. She had no intention of helping Dylan. That good–for–nothing should rot in jail for the rest of his life. Then the Gardner family would be hers, even if it was just an empty shell.
“That’s enough! What more can Liana do if Jeremy doesn’t want to help?” Rosaline hurried over and hugged her daughter, glaring at Andrew in anger. “It’s all your fault! If you hadn’t spoiled Dylan so much, he wouldn’t have ended up like this! The men in the Gardner family are useless. All you know is to vent out your frustrations on women!”
Andrew was so angry his blood was boiling. But he remembered that Rosaline’s sister was Javier Walsh’s wife, so he couldn’t lose his temper quickly.
“Now, what’s important is to salvage our reputation and hasten Liana and Jeremy’s marriage.” Rosaline’s eyes turned dark as she thought about how Jeremy let her son suffer without help. “If necessary, we’ll find way to turn their relationship into a done deal. That way, the Walsh family would never be rid of Liana!”
“Mum! Did you forget…” Liana panicked and pointed at her belly.
Rosaline remembered the stretch marks on her daughter’s abdomen that hadn’t faded away. She sighed in annoyance and said, “Just get a tattoo to cover them if necessary. It’s the quickest solution.”
Liana was very repulsed by the idea. She didn’t want to get a tattoo on her belly. After all, she had always maintained the image of pure and innocent beauty. But the stretch marks remained even after several laser skin treatments. The tattoo would be her last resort if she couldn’t remove them before the wedding.
At that moment, the staff came down, carrying some things.
‘Madam, everything has been packed.”
‘These are all my jewelry boxes! Mum, what are you going to do with them?”
‘I’m selling them.”
