Initially, Jimmy had planned to tease the other party and see how far the bidding would go. After all, they were determined to get this piece of land.
In the end, he was caught off guard by the other party.
One billion was the highest price for the land in South Valley. Any amount more than that would be a loss!
The reason why they decided to buy this piece of land was to develop new buildings and increase the property prices of the surrounding buildings!
What did the other party want?
It could be that the other party had buildings in the surrounding area.
Originally, Jimmy was determined to obtain this piece of land. He did not expect that someone would appear suddenly and shatter their wishful thinking.
Jimmy was so angry that he had the urge to stand up and argue with the other party.
“Is this woman deliberately trying to create trouble?” Landon could not help but ask.
Faced with such a sky–high price, there was an uproar below the stage. Everyone speculated about Rachel’s identity and background.
The auctioneer on the stage was even more excited as he tightened his grip on the hammer in his hand. Originally, they had estimated that this piece of land would be sold for not more than 500 million dollars.
He did not expect it to soar all the way to one billion dollars!
The auctioneer recovered from his excitement and straightened his posture. “Is there anyone bidding higher than one billion dollars? One billion going once, one billion going twice, one billion going thrice!”
As soon as the auctioneer finished speaking, he ended the bidding by striking the hammer on the table. The hammer broke into two as the auctioneer was overly excited.
After the bidding ended, Rachel slipped out the back door when no one was looking. However, as she left, she took a deep look at the lower left corner.
The door of the venue opened. The reporters who had been waiting at the door for a long time did not expect to see the representative of the Johnson Corporation. It was a good opportunity for them to ask questions.
“May I ask why the Johnson Corporation bought this piece of land at twice the estimated price?”
“Is this Ms. Grey’s way of showing her ability to everyone?”
Linda faced the cameras and answered in a very natural manner, “First of all, I’d like to thank all of you for your questions. Secondly, our corporation bought this piece of land in South Valley because we have plans to develop environmental protection projects. Lastly, on behalf of Ms. Grey, I thank you all for your concern for her and the corporation. Thank you once again.”
Rachel walked out of the venue and was replying to Mary’s message with her head lowered. Suddenly, she heard footsteps approaching her. “Ms. Grey, my boss wants to see you.”
She looked up at the man in black. Her gaze passed the man in black and landed on the black Rolls–Royce parked not far away.
At this moment, the car door opened, and Rachel saw a familiar figure clearly.
David was in the back seat. He crossed his legs in an elegant manner, and he was flipping through documents in his hand.
As if sensing her gaze, David slowly looked up.
The moment their eyes met, Rachel felt that something had gotten hold of her heart, and her breath seemed to have stopped for a while.
The car started and brushed past Louis’s car.
Louis saw Rachel’s delicate face from the corner of his through the car window slowly going up.
eyes
Rachel did not notice Louis‘ gaze as she faced the other man with a bright and charming smile.
Seeing Rachel’s gaze on that man, Louis stared blankly at the Rolls–Royce passing by.
“Could it be that Rachel left Smith Group and flitted to another company?
“Otherwise, why is she here?”
Louis was engrossed in his thoughts without hearing his assistant’s words. “Mr. Smith?”
It was not until the assistant spoke again that Louis collected his thoughts and asked in a deep voice, “Has Mr. Justin of the Johnson Corporation arrived?”
“Not yet, but Mr. Justin promised to arrive on time.”
“Let’s go to Best Fry first,” Louis responded.
After that, the car fell silent. Rachel’s beautiful smiling face haunted Louis. After being lost in his thoughts for a moment, Louis broke the silence by saying, “Find out what Rachel Grey is doing these days.”
The assistant paused for seconds before replying, “Yes, sir.”
At the same time, Rachel looked at David in surprise. Then, her bright smile turned into a meaningful one. “The development of the project is confidential. Are you too nosy?”
“Am I?” David fixed his eyes on Rachel’s smiling face and answered with his eyes deeper, “The old district in South Valley cannot be renovated significantly. Merely building residential buildings there is not worth a billion at all. So I guess you have other plans. I just hope that you can do me a favor on account of our personal relationship so that I can take the opportunity to sell the surrounding buildings.”
Rachel narrowed her smiling eyes and said teasingly, “So you want to solve the problem by pulling strings?”
David reached out and ran his long and slender hand through Rachel’s soft hair. He then held the back of her head, slowly leaned down, and said in a husky voice with his warm breath against Rachel’s ear, “So do you agree?”
David’s lips curved into a faint smile that accentuated his mesmerizing face.
Rachel’s curly eyelashes fluttered slightly and she cleared her throat. “Don’t you think we are too close now?”
“We are more than common friends, aren’t we?” David asked.
Rachel pushed David’s hand away and explained seriously, “David Jones, don’t forget that you’re only pursuing me now. We are not in a relationship now.”
David replied lightly, “But we’ve already held hands and hugged. I’m getting closer to you to deepen our relationship.”
Rachel was speechless.
David was really good at sophistry!
“I’ll pay 500 million dollars for 50% of the shares,” David said.
Rachel raised her eyebrows and said without thinking, “700 million.”
“900 million.”
“Deal.”
The driver and Eddie were dumbfounded in the front row.
Eddie was shocked by Rachel and David’s making an agreement worth about a billion with just a few words.
He now suspected that his boss David was mesmerized by Rachel’s beauty.
“Although Miss Grey’s beauty overthrows states and cities, you should stay sober, Mr. Jones!” Eddie muttered in his mind.
Rachel did not expect David’s straightforwardness as well. There was an uncontrollable trace of surprise in her eyes. “Aren’t you afraid that I’ll trick you?”
“I believe you,” David answered without hesitation.
Rachel almost burst into laughter. “How dare you fully trust me as we are just a business acquaintance? Am I too lucky or are you too stupid?”
“I trust my judgment.”
At this moment, David’s phone rang. It was a call from Jimmy.
“David, I’ve checked that the one who didn’t play by the rules was sent by the Johnson family!”
“I see,” David replied calmly. His deep and steely voice was filled with coldness. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up first.”
Jimmy hurriedly uttered to stop David from hanging up, “Wait, didn’t we agree to have lunch together? Where are you? Why don’t I see you?”
David’s good–looking fingers played with the edge of Rachel’s hair and he answered with a composed look, “I have more important things to deal with. Let’s do it another day.”
Rachel glanced at David with a playful look in her eyes.
“More important things?” Rachel thought.
