She was so engrossed with What she was doing that she lost track of time until when Kathie showed up in her office again. and she did not come empty-handed this time around.
“F uck!! what is that smell?” Victoria covered her nose and before she knew what was going on, she instantly rose to her feet from where was seated and dashed into the adjoined bathroom in her office, slamming the door behind her.
Looking confused as f uck, Kathie approached Vee’s table, placing the small tray on it, after which she took steps towards the bathroom.
Connecting her hand to the door handle to open the door, she discovered that it was already locked from the inside.
She sighed in exhaustion, then resulted in knocking on the door. “Vicky!!!, Babe, are you okay?”
She placed her car on the door to have an idea of what was going on but she heard nothing which got her even more furious.
“Vicky, are you okay?” She asked again!
“Please open up!” She knocked on the door and waited a while but got no reply
Kathie sighed in frustration, running a hand through her neatly styled hair
“I knew you were not feeling good but you would not even admit it.”
“Vicky, I am almost in tears, please open this da mn door!”
Seeing that she was not getting any response, she exited Victoria’s office and soon came back with her phone against her ear. very clear that she had just dialed someone’s number.
“Please pick up the da mn phone!” She mumbled as the phone rang against her ear.
“Hi. Dr Amber!” She called out her name in relief.
“Thank you so much for answering my call
“Good morning. Kathie. It is a pleasure to hear from you but you sound really worried”
“It is an emergency. Please can you come over? To my office?”
“Oh. I am not in the States. I’m so sorry. But I can send you a colleague’s number. You can reach out to her and tell her that you are from me. I am sure she will come over to you if she is not on duty.”
“I would really appreciate it. Thank you”
“You are welcome. I will forward you the number now.” Dr Amber’s voice came through after which she ended the call.
Taking the phone away from her car, Kathie heard some noise come from the adjoined bathroom, making her rush over there.
By the time she got there, the door to the bathroom got open, revealing Vicky who looked really pale and her face was wet. Evidence that she just splashed water on it.
Looking like someone that was going to pass out real soon, Kathie dashed to Vicky’s side, grabbed her by the arm, and was about to usher her to the chair she was previously seated on beside her desk.
*Please take it away,!” Her weak voice came through. Something Kathie would miss if she was not listening attentively.
“What do you mean?” She asked, confusion written all over her face.
Vicky pointed to the table.
Kathie took a glance at the tray on the table, then back at Victoria.
“What? The burger?”
She nodded.
“You have to eat, babe. Beef burgers are your favorite. That is why I got it for you.”
*Please take it away. The smell.”
“What is wrong with the sinell? The burger is fresh. I had a bite of mine before I brought yours.”
“Please! This time around she saw tears in her eyes which got her even more shocked and confused.
“Please take it away.”
“It is okay, I will trash it.”
Freeing her arm from her hold, Kathie went over to the table, removed the coffee from the tray, placed the coffee on the table, then carried the tray that had the beef burger out of the office.
By the time she came back, Victoria was already seated on the chair behind her desk.
Kathie rushed to her side, standing in front of her.
“I knew something was not right with you. I should have chased you back home the moment I sighted my eyes on you this morning.”
Tam not a kid, please stop fussing over me.”
“Are you kidding me right now? You almost died because you are sick but you keep putting out a very strong facade”
“I did not die. The smell of what you brought made my stomach churn”
“You threw up?” Kathie stared at Victoria suspiciously. “But it is your favorite?
“I don’t know. It just smelled really weird to me.”
Kathie stared at Vee in disbelief for a few seconds.
“You need to see a Doctor.”
“No, I don’t. I am perfectly fine.”
“You are not!”
“What now, Kathie? Do you know my body more than me?”
“You may know the truth about your body more than me but you are not being sincere.”
“Please stop this, Kathie. I am in no mood for all of these. I am too weak for any of it.”
“I do not need any Doctor. I am fine, I just need to rest a bit more. I will be fine.”
“You are still not going to eat? How will you feel better?”
“Tam not hungry. Besides, I can’t keep anything down so there is no need to have something.”
Kathie continued to glare at her but Vicky ignored the stare.
“Please pass the coffee. I am thirsty.”
Kathie eventually obeyed, reaching for the mug of hot coffee and handing it to Vicky who mumbled a low ‘thank you’ and accepted the mug.
Kathie watched intently as Vicky brought the mug of coffee to her lips, taking a sip.
“F uck!!!” She mumbled, placing the cup back on the table.
“What now?” Kathie folded her arms.
“What did you mix in it?”
“What do you mean by what did I mix in it?”
“It doesn’t taste good!”
“Vicky?!!” Kathie stared at her in shock, giving her that are you kidding me look’
“I am not being silly. Okay, maybe you should taste it too.”
“I made a cup for myself too which I tasted.”
“You probably made that one well and not this. Have a taste.”
Despite not being convinced about the taste, Kathie reached for the mug on the table and brought the cup to her lips, taking a sip.
“This is perfect, babe. It is exactly the way you like your coffee. It has the right amount of milk and sugar.”
“No”
“What the hell is wrong with Vicky?!” She lashed out at her before Vee could say anything.
“Because I said the Coffee doesn’t taste good?”
“There is something more that you are refusing to tell me
“What is that?”
Kathie stretched out her palm and placed the back of it on Vicky’s forehead. She noticed that her body was warm.
“When did this start?
“When did you start feeling sick?” She replied to the confusion all over her face.
“I don’t know. A few days back?”
“And you have refused to see a doctor since then. Should I call you one?
“I am fine, Kathie. I’m tired of saying this over and over again but I am fine.”
“I am not hungry. All the food you brought me is sincerely not appealing to me, I don’t know why. And me throwing up, it is probably a bug or something. I know I will be fine.”
Kathie rested her bum against Vicky’s desk, folding her arms and staring at her friend inventively..
“A bug? Are you kidding me?”
“I definitely has to be. I’ve got some drugs at home. I will use them when I get home. I would probably have to leave work a bit early so that I can rest too.”
“What if it is a bug?”
“What do you mean?”
“How did you find out you had conceived Sophie?”
“I don’t understand you. What does my daughter have to do with this?”
“Just answer my question.”
“My missed period.”
“When last did you get your period?”
“I can’t remember. Last month?”
“You do not remember?” Kathie asked in disbelief.
“You know how busy I am. I hardly keep track of these things.”
“Please stop putting fear in me. I’m certain that I will be fine once I take the bug medicine. Besides, I wasn’t this messy and cranky when I was pregnant with Sophie.”
“Do I have to remind you or are you just being ignorant to the fact that not all pregnancies are going to come with the same symptoms?”
“I’m not pregnant, Kathie.”
“I am not saying you are. Just go to the hospital and run some tests. You would agree with me that it is only reasonable of me to come to that conclusion since you had sex a couple of weeks back.”
Vicky’s heart fell as she stared at Kathie in shock.
“What? That ski pped your mind too?”
“Wait, did you even use any contraceptives?”
Vicky men tally facepalmed as fresh tears welled in her eyes.
“I used.”
“Are you sure? Even if you lie to me, Vee, it makes no sense to lie to yourself.”
“I’m not. I am telling you everything I know. I know that point in my life was a very dark period but I was sane enough to take an after pill.”
Kathie sighed. “I hope you did and hopefully, it didn’t expire.”
“You are so bent on ruining me.”
“You know I would not do that. I would always have your back.”
“I’m just really concerned and you know, how much I hate you being sick. Just get the test done so we can know what is wrong, get you treated and then you would be better in no time.”
“Come on! What is the worst that could happen,” Kathie couldn’t help but ask.
“You know how much I hate being there. They only give bad news.”
“You are an adult and you’ve got such a me ntality. Interesting!”
“Oh, God, Kathie, you are just a handful. Sometimes I want to kill you.”
Kathie couldn’t help with the chuckle that escaped her lips.
“You know I’ve got a soft spot for you in my heart. So it is very normal for me to feel this way.”
“Now that I have agreed to go check up later on, Can you give me some space to work?”
“To work? After all, I have said you are still going to put work first before your health. You look really Terrible,I am sure you are weak as hell, and yet you want to work?”
“I am fine, Kathie. I am not doing anything really strenuous so there is no need to worry.”
“I just want to finish this report and turn them in today.”
Kathie sighed, “Sometimes, I forget how stubborn you can be.”
“No. You are the one who worries too much. Even after assuring you that all is well with me.”
“That’ll because you are one hell of a handful. If you don’t take care of yourself, how would you be able to take care of my god daughter.”
“Right?” Vicky scoffed, “I should have known that you don’t like me and you are doing all this just for Sophie.”
“Don’t be sentimental. I’m so fond of you too and on that note, I’m going to set an appointment for you at the Doctor’s.”
“No, please don’t!” She shunned Vicky up before Vee could say anything.
“Fine, Just do whatever the hell you want!”
“I will come with you!”
“Your choice. Can you leave me now so I can wrap up this project?”
“Just so you know, I am going to go to any appointments with you unless I am done with it.”
Kathie rolled her eyes. “You are the only one I know that prioritizes work over her health.”
“Kathie!!!!” This time around, she called out her name in a commanding tone.
“Yeah, I know you are my boss but don’t you dare intimidate me with it when my feelings are nothing but genuine towards you.”
Vicky sighed, not knowing what else to do.
“I will go to my office only if you have something to eat.”
“You saw what just happened. Not that I am happy to freak you out but I can’t just keep anything down.”
“No matter how bad it is, you should have something that will keep you for a while.”
“Since the coffee isn’t going well with your taste bud, you want me to get you tea or a smoothie?”
“What about fruits?”
“I’ll give it a try!”
“I’ll be right back,” Kathie mumbled, taking her leave.
The moment she shut the door, Kathie rose to her feet and went in the direction of the door, locking it with the key.
She sighed as she got back behind her desk and started her work for the day.
In as much as she loved Kathie, there was no doubt that she could also be really annoying even though her intentions are pure.
More chapters pls, so interesting
Wow,I love your work..keep on updating
More chapters please!!!
Update please
I love the conversations…strong..funny and not repetitive….can’t wait for more..
This is getting rather interesting, could we please have more chapters. I was literally praying they was another chapter after this one.
More chapters please
I am thoroughly enjoying this novel, but I am terribly disappointed that it is not finished and I have to wait for the end. Also the editing and translation needs some work; sometimes the characters names are wrong. By the way who is Nancy and Conner?
The talking between these people is so terribly boring
I like the story but please don’t make the conversation of arguments between your characters take so long. I find it irritating for instance, when the friend/assistant named Kathie was so persistent and it becomes so redundant already. I skipped some stanzas of their argument because it irritates me. Sorry but that is my opinion. I like the plot of the story but make the conversation interesting.
