“I must ask you something.”
Hearing that, Liana clutched the blanket. She trembled and hurriedly sought help from Sophia “Jeremy, Liana has been through a great shock. She just woke up. Let’s wait until she recovers before asking her anything.” Sophia tried to persuade him gently.
“I must ask her now “Jeremy refused to compromise.
“Mr. Walsh! It’s all my fault! It’s all my mistake!” Roanline thought it would be better to admit her wrongdoing instead of waiting to be questioned. She couldn’t let this matter affect her daughter and ruin her chances of marrying into a noble family.
So she rushed over with a sorrowful expression. And she knelt in front of Jeremy.
“The Kirkmans are in trouble. Our cash flow is broken, and our factories are closing down one after another. When the Walshs refused to help, we were forced into a corner by the Taylors.
We were left with no choice…
“So I discussed it with Liana’s father, and we decided to sell some family assets for the sake of our company’s finances. I secretly sold Liana’s jewelry. Liana didn’t even know of it!
“If I had known that the necklace was the token of your love to Liana… Even if I starved or died of poverty, I would never have sold it!”
Liana secretly heaved a sigh of relief before pretending to be shocked Tears welled in her eyes, and she cried, “Mom… How could you do this? That was my most beloved necklace. How could you!”
Jeremy didn’t even blink as he calmly said, “That’s not what I wanted to ask.”
The necklace was no longer of much importance to him compared to the false accusations against Allison. Although he was still upset to see his heartfelt gift being mistreated, he could understand and forgive it if Liana had sold it to save her family.
But twisting the truth, lying, and framing an innocent person was something he couldn’t forgive.
“Did you hurt yourself? Or did Allison do it? Did she accidentally break her bracelet? Or did you snatch it from her and deliberately break it?” Jeremy asked calmly. His gaze was still as water.
“Jeremy, are you saying I’m an evil woman who framed Allison?” Liana cried, acting innocent. “You think I can’t even match up to your ex–wife, who cheated on you emotionally?”
Jeremy’s brow furrowed. “Lauren never lies. She said she didn’t see Allison touch you”
“Lauren isn’t in her right mind. And her language skills are lacking. You know that, Jeremy.
Besides, she was hiding at the time. It’s hard to say if she saw anything,” Sophia quickly stepped in to smooth things over, Jeremy’s lips curled faintly. “Is it common for mothers to criticize their daughters like this in front of others? I wouldn’t know, as I don’t have a mother.
Sophia’s face paled in an instant. He usually had the vigor of a zombie at home. But now, when he retorted, he was full of spirit!
“So, Lia, why did you do this? Since I chose you, I would never get back together with Allison. So why did you go looking for trouble with her?”
Jeremy suppressed the frustration within him, which felt like heavy chains binding his heart. The chains were so restrictive that his heart could hardly beat.
He still called her “Lia” because of their twenty years of friendship, the feelings they shared, and the redemption she brought during his dark childhood. He feared that this light in his life would extinguish and that he had made the wrong choice by staking everything on her.
“I didn’t! It wasn’t me!” Liana yelled, pounding on the bed. A bloodshot glare now replaced her usually gentle gaze.
“She stole my man! And now she wants to turn me into a scapegoat! Betty said Allison and Lauren were close when she was still part of the Walshs. They must be conspiring against me!
Jeremy, do you believe them over me? Have you fallen for Allison? Do you not want me anymore?!”
“I have always been yours. Even during the three years I was married to Allison. My feelings for you.
never changed, and I never even touched her,” Jeremy clenched his trembling fingers tightly. His starry eyes lost their luster.
He recalled how Allison took the blame for the suspicion, how her wrists were swollen. And how she looked back at him with tears and hatred, full of heartbreak and disappointment.
Jeremy took a deep breath, but the intense headache caused his vision to blur. “But Liana, I’m having a hard time understanding everything you’ve been doing lately. Are you trying to push me toward her?”
“No, no! Jeremy! Jeremy!”
Jeremy left without a second glance at her, and it scared her. She staggered out of bed and rushed to the door. Only to be met with a heavy thud as the door closed in front of her face.
Liana kicked the door of the ward angrily. However, she screamed in pain and hopped around in place because she exerted too much strength.
“Allison! I won’t let you get away with this! You swore to be my enemy? Bring it on!” she thought.
As the night fell, they arrived at the ACE. It was one of Landon’s properties.
Jeremy was feeling extremely depressed. So, he did something he had never done before–
he went out to drink with his friends.
Landon picked him up personally Jeremy rarely took the initiative to contact him.
“Sometimes, I feel like I’m your mistress,” Landon murmured into Jeremy’s ear. In front of others, he was bold and fearless. But he turned chatty and gossipy whenever he was around Jeremy.
“I’ve never stooped so low for any woman. But I’m like a mistress waiting for her man when it comes to you. You just have to give me a booty call, and I’ll doll up and come running to you. Aren’t I the best? C’mon, admit it! Even I feel touched by my actions!”
“You’ve never stooped low for any woman?” Jeremy glanced at him. “Well, you were stooping pretty low for Allison.”
“That was a one–time thing! It’s mainly because your ex–wife is too outstanding, and I … I can’t help myself,” Landon said.
Jeremy resisted the urge to scream at him.
Just then, two blonde chicks clad in skimpy clothes passed them by. One of them even winked at Landon.
When Landon grinned from ear to ear, Jeremy asked, “Is she that hot? She’s nothing compared to her.”
“Who? As hot as Allison?”
As if he had discovered something new, Landon’s eyes widened.
“Damn! Jeremy, you’re cheating on me with Allison. And you claimed that your marriage was just a contract. It’s true! All men do is lie! Okay, to be fair, with a stunning beauty like Allison around you, it’s no wonder you’ll cave.”
Jeremy was taken aback by his words and clenched his glass of whiskey. He had spoken as though he had seen Allison’s body, as if they had been intimate.
“I haven’t touched her. You think too much,” Jeremy said, his cheeks slightly flushed. He quickly downed the drink in his glass.
How could he have such inappropriate thoughts about that woman?
As they continued drinking, Landon couldn’t help but ask, “Jeremy, can I ask you a question? I’ve always been curious about it.”
“Yeah,” Jeremy replied.
“Why must it be Liana? Why?” Landon asked, hugging Jeremy’s neck. He pitied Allison. “You saw it today. Those women wanted to tear Allison apart. If it wasn’t for Lauren stepping in to defend her, she would have been torn into pieces. It’s so unfair!”
Jeremy’s gaze wavered, and he seemed lost in memories. “My mother suffered from depression and couldn’t bear the rumors and Javier’s cold treatment. She ended up jumping off a building.
She committed suicide.”
He continued, “I was overwhelmed by grief and couldn’t escape my despair. I even thought about following my mother and leaving this world. I attempted suicide.”
Jeremy removed his steel watch as he spoke, revealing a long, deep scar. For twenty years, he had kept it a secret. Landon was the first person he had confided in Landon’s heart ached, and he let out a sigh.
“It was Liana who saved me in time. Since then, she has become my only friend. She would make desserts for me, invite me to her home, and give me her collection of toys. Back then, she was like my guardian, the hope that kept me alive. I promised to marry her. So, no matter what, I have to fulfill that promise.”
Landon sighed.
“But Jeremy, people change. You two haven’t been together for so long. Do you think you still know her? What if you find out that she’s drifting further and further away from the person you remember? What will you do then? Will you stubbornly hold on?
“Yes, you’re grateful to him, and yes, you can repay her kindness. But Jeremy, we can’t lose sight of right and wrong and blindly support a person. Things like that aren’t set in stone, right?”
Jeremy put his watch back on. He was deep in thought. His mind was filled with Allison’s eyes, clear and pure, untainted by the world’s corruption.
His heart trembled, and he took another gulp of alcohol.
“Ah, you’re an obsessive psycho. Once you’ve made up your mind, nothing can pull you away,” Landon teased, clinking his glass with Jeremy’s.
When they left the club, their luxury cars were already waiting at the entrance. The drivers. respectfully opened the doors for them.
“Landon, I have a question.” After holding it in all night, Jeremy finally stopped Landon to ask.
“Hmm?” Landon yawned.
Jeremy hesitated for a moment. Then, he asked in a low voice, “Why did Allison admit it?
Why didn’t “Maybe she just doesn’t care anymore!” Landon replied, yawning again.
“Doesn’t care about what?” Jeremy asked further.
“She’s already divorced you. So, why would she care about what you think? If she doesn’t care about you, why would she bother about what the Walshs think of her? She’s probably lost all hope now. Given your vicious, cruel words, if I were Allison, I’d probably find someone to beat you up!
With that, Landon got into his luxury car and said goodbye.
Jeremy’s hands clenched into fists, his knuckles turning white. He imagined strangling himself, choking himself breathless.
Very interesting one, I really enjoyed this. Please more update. Thanks very much
