“What the hell!”
I was bamboozled. “How can I leave tomorrow?”
She turned to look at me and narrowed her eyes. “Do as I say!”
The door of the room opened and Ace walked in along with Logan. “What is going on, Kylie?”
Logan asked, staring at her. My heart raced like that of a wild horse. Logan didn’t know that Ace and I were mates. With wide eyes, I looked from Logan to Kylie to Ace and back to Kylie. My sister-in-law was ultra-cool as she c ocked her hip and placed her hand over. “Alpha Logan, it is time that you know,”
she said. “Know what?”
Logan’s eyes furrowed to a slash. I blushed crimson, dread pooling in my belly. “That your sister and Ace are mates,”
Kylie shrugged. Logan’s mouth dropped open, and his eyes bulged out in disbelief. He blinked twice, attempted to speak, but abruptly closed his mouth. What happened next was exactly what I had anticipated. Logan sat on the bed, glared at Ace and me, and shouted at the to of his voice for keeping him in the dark. He blasted Ace, and Ace remained silent, because he didn’t snitch that I wanted to keep our relationship hidden. As I remained rooted to my spot, Kylie made no effort to intervene with Logan and instead continued her work on the computer. She only muttered, “You both deserve it!”
Traitor. Once Logan had poured his anger out, he took a ragged breath in and said, “Both of you get out! I want to talk to Kylie.”
Ace grabbed my hand. Logan growled, “Don’t you f ucking touch her! I’ll kill you right now!”
Ace gritted his teeth and left my
My brows creased as I took the envelope from her. I opened it and my eyes widened. “How the hell did you get this invitation?”
Shocked, I read the invite. “Dear Katy Hanks, On behalf of King Soren Norton of the Viking Pack, it is with great honor we extend this invitation to you. The blood moon approaches and we prepare for a time-honored tradition that is sacred to our pack – the Selection of the Bride for our future Alpha Ace Norton. In this event, eligible she-wolves of the pack and other packs will showcase their strength, virtue and unique qualities. This is not just a selection, but it is a celebration of our heritage. To enter this Selection you should be eighteen years and above. With the blessings of the Moon, Soren Norton Alpha and King of the Viking Pack”
“O.M.G.”
I rasped. “How the f uck did you get this invite?”

would be necessary for the Selection. She assigned me two omegas, Lily and Lilian, who were twins and red-heads, and were the best in the manor. Logan had asked Lily to look after Kylie during pregnancy, but Kylie had asked her to go with me. Next day, just before I was leaving, Logan said, “If you feel you can’t continue and want to come back, let me know. I’ll bl oody attack that pack and kill them all to make you the Luna. No one should dare to mess with my little sister!”
I chortled, shaking my head. “Logan, I am big enough to take care of myself.”
At the back of my mind, I knew that Logan was capable of destroying the Viking Pack because now he had the power of four packs with him, but if that happened, would Ace forgive me? Too many things were at stake. Kylie hugged me and said, “Call me whenever you can. I am here for you.”
“Kylie, I am scared,”
I whispered. “Shut up!”
she rasped. “You are the boldest little wolf I’ve come across. Now go, and make us proud!”
My brother, and sister in-law wrapped me in a bear hug before I sat in the car. “Best of luck!”
Kylie shouted, as my car sped out of the Nord pack. A car with two warriors, Lily and Lilian, followed mine. The drive to the Viking pack was long. We arrived six hours later. I was so nervous when I showed my invite to the guard at the main gate of the castle. However, the moment he saw it, he bowed to me and directed us to go towards the west wing of the castle. “That’s where the girls for selection are staying,”
he added. As the car drove through the drive that led to the castle, I was mesmerized by its beauty. Ace was royalty, but I didn’t know that he had left all this opulence for me. Activities filled the grounds as omegas and ga mmas buzzed around. The castle was a gigantic structure made from pink stone. Ivy climbed its walls. The tall arch-shaped windows added to the elan. As I took a deep breath, I called Ace, but he didn’t pick up, and I felt my heart sink. As soon as we arrived in the west wing, I showed my invite to the guard who was sitting behind a desk in the foyer. A few girls were milling around, and a few were talking to him. “Miss Katy Hanks,”
he said with a furrow in his brows. He flipped through his register to check my name. My nervousness grew because my name was obviously not there. He narrowed his eyes and looked at me. “Your name isn’t here, Miss Katy.”
All the other girls stopped talking as they stared at us. “There must be some mistake. Please check again,”
I replied with my breath lodged in my throat. He went back to checking the register, flipping the pages, but he came back with a blank expression. “I’m sorry, Miss Katy Hanks, but you are not registered here.”
To intimidate me, he crossed his arms tightly over his chest. I clenched my jaws as a shudder skittered down my spine. F uck, I was going to be thrown out.
competition? “Please leave,”
the guard growled at me. I opened my mouth to protest when I heard, “Katy!”
I spun and saw Ace running towards me. Relief flooded my chest. Every other girl was stunned to see him. They bowed to him and some even blushed in his presence. But Ace was only looking at me. “You must be tired,”
he said, clenching his fists beside him as if stopping himself from touching me. “Do you know her, sir?”
asked the guard, surprised. Ace dragged his gaze away from me and said to him, “Yes, Katy Hanks is the last minute entry in the Selection. Add her name in the register while I’ll take her to her room.”
Saying that, he gestured me inside the building with a beatific smile. I tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear and walked with him, leaving behind a bunch of girls to gossip. 5
“They won’t even notice,”
he said, lifting his face and kissing my jawline. “There are about fifty contestants already. And for the record, your name is now in the register.”
Jealousy ripped my chest with its dark dagger. “I think you’ll end up with fifty dead bodies tomorrow morning,”
I hissed. I was expecting him to laugh, but solemnly, he said, “Do you want me to help you?”
F uck. How could a wolf be so perfect? “Nope, I can manage it,”
I replied with a smile. “Besides, I have a competition to win, not to kill. I have to show them all that I am the Luna. Best to be Alpha Ace’s wife.”
“You don’t have to show them, Katy. You are the best,”
he said with admiration in his eyes. “You think I can’t compete?”
I said in a challenging voice. “No, love. I think we don’t need this sh it. I am ready to give up this position for you.”
I cupped his cheeks. “Well, then you have news for you, Alpha Ace Norton. I am going to be your Luna, this way or the other!”
And this time, he laughed. “I don’t doubt that at all.”
He slammed his lips on me again and resumed our kiss. Constant buzzing on his phone made him break our kiss. “Yes, father,”
he said, his demeanor stiffening. He listened to his father and after ending the call, he got up. “I have to go, Katy. There’s a dinner for the contestants in the Rose Bowl of the castle in an hour. Dad wants me to help my mom and sister with it!”
||| O Wed, May
I burst out laughing as my eyes widened. “Cheater!”
He shrugged. “I’d do anything to marry you, Katy. Anything!”
With that, he pressed a chaste kiss on my lips and left. “See you for dinner!”
Lily and Lilian came along with my guards, who carried my luggage inside. They started arranging my luggage as they talked animatedly about the girls and the contest. “Do you know that there are four she-wolves with alpha bloodline and seven with beta bloodline?”
Lily said. “Yes, and the rest of ga mmas with very influential parents,”
Lilian added. “You are the fifth she-wolf who is of the alpha bloodline,”
Lily informed me. I took a ragged breath in because that meant that Ace’s parents would know that I had crashed the Selection. A knock on the door sounded, and Lilian rushed to open it. A petite girl peeked inside. “Katy Hanks?”
Lily opened the door wide for her to come in. The girl came to me and gave me a thick envelope. “This is the schedule for the competition, miss,”
she said with a smile. Then she took out a red envelope. “This is an invitation for tonight.”
I took it from her with a nervous smile. “Thank you,”
I breathed. She bowed and left. “Oooo!”
Lily exclaimed as she came to look at the dinner invitation. “What is the dress code?”
“Red.”
The girls jumped with excitement and hurried to find a suitable dress for me. Attending the dinner meant that I would face his parents for the first time, and that made me edgy all over again. Lily placed all the red dresses on the bed for me to choose. Since I wanted to make an impression, I chose a burgundy dinner gown with a lacy off shoulder neckline. The middle was tightly cinched, and its tulle skirt gracefully reached my ankles. The skirt had a slit on the right side that revealed my skin as I walked. Subtle, yet not so subtle. Though the twins wanted me to go heavy on makeup, I decided to apply lip gloss and mascara to my eyelashes only. As I strapped my heels, Lily said, “You are looking absolutely gorgeous!”
“Thanks Lily,”
I said. “But you are biased.”
She chuckled sweetly. “You are!”
Shaking my head, I opened the door and saw my guards, Jeff and Kirk, standing outside. “We’ve already seen the place!”
Jeff said. They guided me to the dinner venue, but when I got there, I saw it was veiled in darkness. Flustered, I looked around and wondered if I had missed any detail. The guards were just as confused as I was. Unsure of where to find the dinner venue in this colossal castle, I gave Ace a call, but he didn’t answer. “What do we do, Miss Katy?”
Jeff asked, feeling embarrassed for me. I scratched my brow, wondering what to do next, when I remembered what Ace said. “Let’s go to the main gardens.”
They guided me to the main gardens, but I knew that this wasn’t the venue. Following the scent of roses, I walked to the rear of the castle and came in front of the Rose Bowl. It was a beautiful garden surrounded by rows of roses in circles. My guards stayed out as I climbed the stairs that led to the dinner venue, Just as I approached the main entrance, my gaze was captured by a woman in pink, stationed there to receive the guests. O
