Jonah’s expression softened as he watched his younger brothers mess around. At that moment, he couldn’t help but reminisce about the past.
“Speaking of gifts, look at what I got Lyse.”
Axel’s eyes glinted mischievously as he showed the others a silver rectangular box while looking excited.
After punching in a complex passcode, Axel opened the box and revealed the contents for all to see, Jonah froze up while Silas inhaled sharply in return.
The R&D department in the headquarters created this gun recently. There’s a mix of ammo and tranquilizers in this revolver. Lyse can spin the cylinder to the left if she is in danger. The tranquilizers are more than enough to put her target to sleep for three days. If she wants that target dead, she can spin to the right for regular ammo.”
Axel started introducing the second item. “This lighter acts like a mini grenade. It’s convenient to carry it around. Not to mention it packs quite a punch. It’s powerful enough to destroy a building, after all. Ah, let’s not forget about this baby!”
No matter hAxel’s age, he’d forever be a child at heart. He proceeded to flaunt the last gadget in the box smugly. “Lyse loves jewelry, doesn’t she? I have this ring custom¨Cmade just for her! Look at it! Isn’t it beautiful?”
Silas was curious about the ring. He was about to start fiddling with it when Axel suddenly gripped his wrist.
“Don’t touch it. That ring is capable of pricking you with venomous needles. The venom is even stronger than that of a rattlesnake’s.”
Jonah looked down at his feet. “May God bless you. Amen.”
A look of fright appeared on Silas’ face. “How could you give Lyse such dangerous weapons?”
“Pssh! You know nothing about how useful my gadgets are!”
Axel narrowed his eyes dangerously. “Jeremy Walsh, that fucking piece of shit! How dare he bully my sister! I’ve prepared those gifts just for him! Lyse will be the one deciding his fate!”
Silas was impressed by Axel’s ferocity.
“Axel, now that you’ve returned, how long do you plan on staying this time?” Jonah asked in concem
“Half a month, give or take.”
Axel looked a little reluctant to leave after a short period of time.
He explained, “I need to fly to Mosgravia for an urgent mission. So, I need to travel there in advance just to make preparations. If it weren’t for that, I’d have liked to stay here and spend more time with Lyse.”
“Your job comes first. Silas and I will protect Lyse. So, don’t worry about her.”
Jonah paused briefly before asking in a softer tone, “Are you going to visit Dad? We were just talking about you a few days ago.”
“Nah. We tend to fight whenever I visit.” Axel waved dismissively, though he looked slightly gloomy.
Jonah and Silas exchanged looks. They felt a little sad.
Even Alyssa was starting to accept the fact that she had three mothers. Yet, Axel refused to forgive Winston for cheating on his mother with other women.
That was why he enrolled in a military academy and became a spy despite everyone’s protests. Axel proceeded to leave his hometown for long periods and worked elsewhere.
He’d rather avoid Winston for the rest of his life.
However, Axel found himself starting to miss his family more over the past two years. Perhaps the older he became, the more sentiment*l he got. The man frequently recalled the childhood. years he had spent with his siblings.
“Hey, Silas! Let’s go beat Jeremy up!”
Axel hooked an arm around Silas’ neck. They now shared a good relationship despite fighting just moments ago.
Did Axel mention something about beating Jeremy up?
Silas quickly reacted to that statement.
“You’re on your own. Lyse warned us to not cause any trouble for Jas. I can’t go back on my word now, can I?”
He quickly backed away from Axel.
Axel just chuckled in amusement. His lips then curled into a cheeky smirk.
Alyssa ended up staying at Stellus for the next three days.
She barely slept as she wanted to craft the perfect emerald bracelet, the exact replica of the one
Newton had given her. If she got tired, she’d nap in the workshop. Once she woke up, she’d take a few bites of food before continuing work.
The other men worked their respective jobs during the day. They turned down all business and social invitations just to have dinner with their sister at night.
Jonah and his brothers prepared a fancy dinner that night. It consisted of Alyssa’s favorite dishes.
Still, she played with her food moodily while propping her cheek with a hand.
The men were anxious about Alyssa’s current state. But they didn’t know how to help her out.
They knew nothing about jewelry, after all.
“Ms. Alyssa.” Alyssa snapped out of her thoughts before turning to look at Don wearily.
The latter placed a beautiful jewelry box in front of her.
“What’s this, Uncle Don?”
“Why don’t you open it and find out for yourself?”
Alyssa frowned in confusion as she opened the box.
She covered her mouth in shock the next moment. She could only stare at the clear crystal bracelet. It looked beautiful and radiant.
There were minor differences between this bracelet and the one Newton had given her. Still, it resembled the original bracelet.
“My master was the one who crafted this bracelet. It has to be one of his greatest works in life. He originally wanted to give it to Madam as a gift, but he was unable to do so in the end.”
Don heaved a heavy sigh as he spoke.
“Madam? I thought Mr. Fowler was single!” Silas pointed out curiously while chewing on some.
meat.
Don shot him a glance. “My master had a crush on Madam back in the day.”
“Oh. I thought Mr. Fowler loved ores more than women,” Axel said jokingly after taking a sip of wine. “Why didn’t he give it to her? Was it because he didn’t have the guts to do that?”
“My master and Madam had studied the craft under the same master. At that time, he disliked same roof, he fell in love with her without knowing it.
“
“After that, Madam got married to another man. My master had made this bracelet with the intention of giving it to her as a wedding gift. He never expected Madam to get into a severe car accident on her wedding day. In the end, she went into a coma. Soon, she passed away.”
The Taylor siblings looked surprised. Sadness soon washed over them.
“From that day onward, my master vowed never to fall in love ever again. He devoted all his feelings for Madam to hardstone carving. For many years afterward, he licked his wounds by focusing on the craft.”
“Mr. Fowler knew what true love was. Perhaps none of the men in this world was as loyal and dedicated as he was toward Madam,” Alyssa commented with a sigh. She looked slightly envious.
“But his ignorance toward love was the cause of this tragedy, wasn’t it? It all came back to bite him in the ass.”
Jonah, Silah, and Alyssa turned around to glare at their brother. Axel stopped speaking instantly before taking another sip from his glass awkwardly
Alyssa felt quite bitter inside.
Even a man as emotionless as Herman could fall in love without realizing it. Even though Alyssa and Jeremy were married for three years, he never loved her. Not even once.
Did he ever regret his actions now that she wanted to divorce him?
As if!
If Jeremy truly felt remorse, how could he repeatedly humiliate her with harsh words?
If he did regret his actions, why would he side with those mean women and question her integrity?
Alyssa and Jeremy were now divorced. It meant she was no longer his wife. Because of that, Jeremy couldn’t be bothered to respect her.
