Marigold didn’t actually understand, but when she saw how serious Danika was, she nodded.
Afterward, Danika got the nanny and the bodyguard to take Caleb home. She brought Marigold along with Gilbert and Lottie.
They chose a restaurant upstairs. In the meantime, Gilbert was extremely polite and caring toward Lottie.
“My brother is really good to you,” Danika said sarcastically.
Lottie was not angry. She smiled at Gilbert. “He’s a good person, and I like him very much. That’s why I don’t want anything happening between you two.”
“Nothing’s really happening. I just don’t like that he’s gone back to the Bradshaws. That means he isn’t my brother anymore,’ Danika said as she sipped her tea slowly.
“Why?* Lottie didn’t understand why Danika would say this. Would Gilbert’s return to the Bradshaws affect Danika in the slightest?
Danika looked at her and said with a cold smile, “If he could abandon his son just to go back to the Bradshaws, he could abandon me for them, too. So why should I still see him as my brother?’
Danika had wanted to say, “His lover’s son,” but then considered that Lottie would tell tales to Esther. Hence, she didn’t say Marigold’s name. They couldn’t let her know that Gilbert and Marigold were at that stage of the relationship.
Lottie’s face paled. “His son…Well, don’t worry. Once Gilbert and I marry. I’ll accept his son as one of my own,” she said determinedly.
Before Danika could retort, Marigold blurted out, “Miss Silvera, forget about whether you can marry Gilbert. Even if you could, you could just have your own son. Isn’t taking mine going overboard?
Gilbert and Marigold (68)
Everyone was shocked to hear her speak so suddenly. Lottie was stunned, and she explained, “You’ve misunderstood. That’s not what I meant. I just think that if the child follows his father, it’ll help him develop better, and you’ll be less stressed.”
“I don’t need your concern. I can raise my child alone,” Marigold snorted. She did not hold back at all.
Lottie looked unpleasant. Gilbert had no choice but to step in. “We’ll have our own child together. And whoever likes it the most will get to keep it.”
Although they knew that Gilbert had meant this for Lottie to hear, Marigold found it extremely upsetting.
She looked at Gilbert, and for a moment, she was unable to tell if he was being genuine. She thought of all that Gilbert had said to her last night, saying that he didn’t like Lottie and had no intention of marrying her.
But he looked to be truly in love. Marigold didn’t think she could tell if he was faking it.
“I’m sorry. I need to go to the restroom.” Marigold didn’t want to stay for another second. Especially with Gilbert’s puppy eyes, every minute spent here was torture.
Danika got up quickly, not forgetting to glare at Gilbert before she left. Although it was an act, surely there was no need for him to be that serious. He should have known that it would hurt.
Gilbert was exasperated. Lottie was no fool. How could she believe him if he wasn’t a little harsher?
When she saw them walking away, Lottie said awkwardly, ‘Miss
“What do her emotions have to do with me? I only care about you.” Gilbert looked at Lottie with adoration in his eyes.
Even though Lottie knew that Marigold had lived in Gilbert’s their relationship, she was powerless against Gilbert when he was like this.
He was strong, capable, handsome, and was good
“You’re amazing, Bert.” She leaned against his chest bashfully. Right now, she felt like the luckiest girl in the world.
Gilbert held her. If Lottie would just look up at him now, she would notice that the adoration in his eyes had completely disappeared, replaced by cold indifference.
In the restroom, Marigold wiped the corners of her eyes with water. She didn’t want anyone to see that she had cried.
Danika walked in and saw Marigold’s red eyes. She felt upset, too. “Don’t take his words to heart, Marigold. He was obviously only saying it for Lottie to hear.”
“I know.” Marigold nodded, smiling. “I just feel a little upset. I’m fine. I’ll be alright in a while.”
“If you don’t want to see them, we can just leave.” Danika regretted accepting Lottie’s invitation. It was just plain torture for Marigold.
However, Marigold didn’t agree to it. “It’s like you said. If I go now, that would mean that I’m afraid of her.”
Marigold was not afraid of her. The only one who could hurt her was someone she cared about.
“Are you sure you’re okay?’ Danika was still a little worried.
Marigold nodded. “Yes.” Then, she fixed her makeup and returned to the restaurant with Danika.
The waiter had already served the food. Gilbert was currently giving Lottie some of his own food to eat. At a distance, they looked perfect for each other
Gilbert and Marigold (69)
Marigold was miserable throughout dinner, but she persevered till the end without being too dramatic.
After dinner, they walked to the entrance of the shopping mall.
Gilbert went to get the car. Lottie stood with Danika and Marigold. Watching Gilbert leave, she turned toward Marigold. “I heard that you used to like Gilbert very much.*
‘It’s all in the past. It’s not worth mentioning.” Marigold didn’t want to talk about it. She was afraid that Lottie would see that she still liked Gilbert. Most importantly, she was afraid that Gilbert’s plan would be ruined.
Lottie smiled. “That’s true. The past is the past. You’re such a nice person. You’ll definitely be able to find someone better suited for you in the future.”
Marigold pursed her lips.
Gilbert soon brought the car over. Lottie was about to get into the car, but before she did, she suddenly turned to Marigold and said, “Gilbert and my engagement party will be in a few days’ time. If you have the time, you’re more than welcome to come and witness our love for each other.”
After that, she sat in the passenger seat, not even bothering to look at Marigold’s face.
The car started and drove away, disappearing from Marigold’s sight. She looked as if she had been struck by lightning as she stared after the car.
Danika wanted to curse her out. Lottie had done it on purpose!
“Marigold…” she said, gnashing her teeth. She was worried about Marigold.
Marigold snapped out of her trance and looked at Danika. “Is that true?” Engagement party?
Gilbert had told her that he would never marry Lottie. But now…
Maybe in Gilbert’s eyes, it was only an engagement. It didn’t mean they were going to marry.
But to Marigold, an engagement meant that they would marry in the future.
“Gilbert has no choice. Esther refuses to let him be in power and insists that he be engaged to Lottie before giving him the position,” Danika said, trying her hardest to explain Gilbert’s actions.
But now, Marigold had completely lost faith in Gilbert. ‘No other choice? Oh yes, he has it very hard indeed.” She smiled bitterly and walked away.
Danika was worried for her safety but didn’t want to bother her. Hence, she tagged behind Marigold quietly.
Before Gilbert had started the car, he’d heard what Lottie said to Marigold.
But he had no choice but to keep it together and back to Marigold. Danika had given him their location, so he found her very quickly.
Marigold was on the streets. She didn’t know where to go. Then, a car honked behind her. She looked over and saw Gilbert’s face. Anger surged in her chest at once. She quickened her footsteps, not wanting to see him.
Gilbert had no choice but to stop the car and run after her. “Marigold!” he said, pulling her back.
“Let go!” She tried to get away from him to no avail.
Gilbert knew she was miserable, so he hurriedly explained, “It’s just an engagement. Once I get engaged, I’ll be in the position to subdue the Bradshaws.”
“Oh, really? What if I don’t believe you?” Gilbert kept saying that, but
Marigold had already lost all her trust in him.
Gilbert was panicking, especially when he saw how she was being. “Get into my car. I’ll send you home.”
“No!”
“Caleb is waiting for you at home,” Gilbert said.
At once, Marigold’s head cleared. That was true. She had a child to take care of. How could she give up hope over a man? Even without Gilbert, she had to live on with her child
Gilbert and Marigold (70)
Gilbert drove to Danika’s villa, but he was in no rush to get down.He didn’t unlock the doors, either. He obviously wanted to talk to Marigold.
But Marigold evidently didn’t want to.
“I want to take my child and leave.” She was afraid.
What if Gilbert and Lottie married and took her child away? She no longer believed in love.
The only thing she believed in was her child.
Gilbert tightened his grip when he heard that.
“Marigold, the engagement is only for Esther to see.I have no feelings for Lottie.”
“Who knows? People change. You said you didn’t have feelings for me, too.”
Marigold found this all very amusing.
Perhaps this was fate.
Gilbert wanted to keep explaining, but Marigold did not give him the chance to.
“Just let me and Caleb leave. If what you say is true, you can come to find us once everything is over.”
And if Gilbert didn’t come looking for her, the truth would unfold itself, and she would give up all hope.
Gilbert understood that Marigold had already made up her mind, and he was powerless to change it.
“Fine. But I must arrange for someone to be by your side.” Marigold frowned.
She was obviously unwilling.
“Even if you don’t care about your safety, you need to think about Caleb.Esther is definitely going to keep tabs on you.She will not let this go if she has the chance.”
Gilbert was afraid that once the Bradshaws came crumbling down, Esther would become desperate.
At his words, Marigold finally did not refuse.
“Fine.”
Afterward, Marigold got down the car and packed all her things from Danika’s villa.
Then, she took Caleb and left, heading back to the house she used to live in.
But she couldn’t stay there for long. She had to move to another city.
Danika was dazed watching her leave. She went to Gilbert and asked, “Gilbert, didn’t you explain it to her?”
“I did, but she still doesn’t want to believe me.” Gilbert sighed.
Eustace was next to them.He was not surprised to hear that at all. He’d told Gilbert to be upfront, but he hadn’t listened.
This was what he was getting.
“Well, you’ll have to subdue the Bradshaws quickly.”
Danika could understand Marigold’s disbelief. If it were her, she would do the same.
Gilbert nodded.
“I will. But I’ll have to ask you to take care of her for now.”
Although he would arrange for a bodyguard, the Bradshaws’ schemes ran deep.He was still worried that Marigold and his child would run into trouble.
“Alright.Don’t worry. With me around, no one will dare to hurt a hair on their heads.”
Danika was confident about it.
Gilbert believed in her, so he wasn’t too worried.
