“Yeah, you are free to do whatever you want to do but that is not going to stop me from speaking my mind.”
“I know I’ve got no say in your business but I do not think you are being reasonable. I know Oscar offended you a lot in the past but is it worth all the bullshit you are putting him through”
“I know life throws bullshit at us and that we have all got our own issues but no matter how tough it can be, there’s just this calm that important people in your life give.”
“I don’t know much about him but the Oscar that came here is a good man. He could be an asshole but he is a good man. And even if you do not want him, I wish he finds. someone that would replace you because it is obvious that you do not care about his happiness or that of yours either.”
Vee had no idea why her chest fell at Bessie’s last statement.
Hearing nothing from either of the best friends, Bessie turned around to take her leave. She was almost at the door when she turned around and faced them. “You know what, forget what I said and forget that I came here in the first place. I had no idea what I was thinking about coming here. I was such a fool for thinking I could come to convince you or talk sense to you. I won’t bother you again. That is a promise from me.” Bessie-said after which she stormed out of Victoria’s office.
“She is after Ash, She’s still keeping contact with Oscar? How the hell did they even get that close?”
“You sound jealous?” Kathie mumbled, folding her arms where she was seated.
“Jealous? What for? They probably have a thing. I just don’t know why she is obsessed with two men at the same time.”
“She is close with Oscar and you aren’t. Is that what is pissing you off?”
Victoria sighed frustratedly. “You know what? I need to be alone. You are dismissed.”
“You don’t want to admit you are jealous.”
“I am not jealous. I’m just pissed but it doesn’t matter.” She mumbled, turning her attention to her laptop.
“Are you not worried?” Kathie asked.
“About what?” She raised her hand from the device before her.
“She said she talked to Oscar and she just heard our conversation I think.”
“She definitely heard us but she has no proof. Besides, words can be denied. Even if he knew I was pregnant, he has no proof that it’s his.”
Kathie shook her head in disbelief. “I don’t know who is crazier. You or Bessie.”
“It is sad you think Oscar is not smart enough to figure things out by just having a little bit of information.”
Vee glared at her best friend. “Stop putting those thoughts in my head.”
Kathie sighed, massaging her temple.
The moment Bessie was out of Victoria’s office, she took the elevator and went straight down to her workstation. On getting there, she picked up her phone from her desk and went to her recently dialed contacts, calling the person she had in mind.
After successfully getting Kathie out of her office, Victoria went back to burying herself with work since that was the only thing that could keep her mind off her problems.
She lost track of time as she did her best to complete the project she was working on.
Realizing how late it was already, Vee started getting ready to go home by shutting down her laptop after which she would go ahead to pack her bag.
She was done shutting her system when a knock came through on her door. She didn’t have the chance to answer when the person entered.
“I came to say goodbye. Or do you need me to help you with anything?” Kathie said, walking in with her handbag.
“No, no, I will be leaving shortly too.”
“Good. Let me know if you won’t be able to make it to work tomorrow. Do not push yourself too hard if you can’t. I can always get things sorted out for you in your absence.”
“Sometimes I hate that you care too much about me. I am fine and I’ll be here Tomorrow.” Vee sighed, rising to her feet. “Work helps me take my mind off my worries so I will definitely be here.”
“Yeah, I forgot how stubborn you could be,” Kathie said, walking towards her. “Take care of yourself and make sure you reach out to me if need be.” She said, hugging Vicky.
“Yeah, thank you.”
“My regards to the latest big sister.”
Vee rolled her eyes at Kathie.
“Don’t look at me like that. And you should break the news to her. It is going to give your mind so much comfort.”
“You should go!”
“Yeah, you do the most in wanting to switch conversations.”
Vicky shrugged, “if need be.”
“You are absolutely something else. I gotta go. My ride is here.” Kathie blew a kiss at Vee after whe exited her office.
Vicky started gathering her items in her bag. The last thing she tucked in her handbag was her phone and just after she tucked her handbag in her arm, about to exit her desk area, Vicky’s eyes met with a contact card on her desk. She got confused for a while, wondering where it came from but by picking it up and taking a closer look at it, She saw Dr Tais’s name on it.
Victoria sighed, shredded the card into pieces, and trashed it into the bin after which she exited her office.
Vicky was already at the parking lot, approaching her car when she saw a familiar-car-pull____ up in the lot.
She sighed in relief, knowing it was her boss.
Giving him time to settle, Vee approached her car and dumped her handbag in the front passenger seat after which started the car engine, shutting the door.
“Victoria, Good to see you!” Mr Philip’s cheerful voice came through as he approached her and they both met halfway.
“I can say the same about you too.” They shared a half hug.
“I’ve been wanting to see you.” She opened up to him.
“Yeah, Kathie said you were not feeling too well yesterday so you had to go home. Hope you are feeling better now?”
“Yes, I am. Thank you. She also gave me the news.’”
