“What are you looking at?” Noah narrowed his eyes.
Axel shook his head without uttering a word.
Noah asked, “Axel, what are you avoiding?”
Axel kept quiet for a moment. “Nothing.”
“You shall go to school here starting the day after tomorrow,” said Noah authoritatively.
Axel lowered his head even more.
River sneered after overhearing the conversation, thinking, ‘Why is he communicating with a child in such a domineering way?‘
River assumed Axel’s personality was attributed to the lack of parental affection.
At three in the afternoon, River drove back to Bayview Villa.
As soon as she arrived home, her phone rang. She picked up the call with a smile upon realizing it was Paige.
“River!” Paige’s voice came through loudly. “You’re heartless for forgetting me as soon as you’re back.”
River pulled the phone away from her ear due to the loudness.
“I just arrived this morning. After getting my car, I enrolled the chi planned to call and invite you for dinner once I got home, but you met a kindergarten. I it.”
Paige said, “Wait for me. I’m coming right now!”
“Paige!” River said anxiously, “Don’t let his people find out.”
Paige complained, “I have no idea that Noah has so much patience. Why is he still so persistent when your tombstone has been erected for five years?”
River said, “I’m sorry for burdening you.”
“I’m just complaining!” Paige said teasingly, “He didn’t manage to find out that I’ve been interacting with you anyway, right?”
River smiled. “I’ll send you the location. We’ll talk more when we meet.”
“Sure.”
River hung up the call and opened the door to hear Liora’s giggles.
She smiled and looked at Liora, playing joyously in the living room. “I’m home, Lia.”
Liora looked to the door and tossed away the doll in her hand before running to River right away.
She extended her chubby arms and said, “Welcome home, Mommy. Have you decided on where I will go to school? Will I be going to the same school as Ty?”
River leaned over to pick up Liora. “It’s done! Lia, do you remember what I told you before?”
Liora blinked. “Not to mention Mommy to strangers after we start school. I remember, but I don’t know if Ty does.”
Tyler was rendered speechless by the unexpected dissing. He looked away from his laptop to Liora in displeasure and said, “I won’t go to the kindergarten, so I won’t burden you.”
Liora’s eyes widened in surprise. She turned and hugged River’s neck. “I was only joking,
Mommy.”
River was at a loss of whether to laugh or cry with her two mischievous children.
She took a seat on the sofa, and Neil joined her.
He asked, “How is it? Is everything going well?”
River urged Liora to play by herself.
Liora ran away, and River lowered her voice to say, “I ran into him, Neil‘”
Neil was stunned and asked anxiously, “Did he recognize you?”
River shook her head. “No. I saw him, but he didn’t see me. I don’t know what happened next because his child with Daniella is attending the same school as Ty and Lia.”
“Switch to another school then!” Neil was panic–stricken. “We can’t let him see you. We haven’t begun implementing our plan, so we shouldn’t expose ourselves too soon.”
River rejected the idea. “No, I’m not switching schools because this is the safest of all kindergartens. Moreover, he may not necessarily be picking up his child from school daily. I’m not worried about bumping into him. Also, I keep my shades on.”
“Your presence is hard to conceal.” Neil heaved a sigh. “You are different from the past, but-”
River interrupted him. “Neil, I wouldn’t have returned if I were afraid of meeting him. In addition, I’m only disappointed with him, but I don’t hate him. I’m here to seek revenge on Daniella only!”
Neil did not comment further after seeing River’s determination. He then changed the subject. It’s three months until Grandpa’s birthday.”
River nodded. “As long as you don’t mind it.”
“We will need to pay for what we do. If our mother were still around, she would do so too.”
River nodded. Her first goal was to destroy everything that Daniella was proud of! She wanted to show Grayson how foolish his choices were!
Paige came over for dinner, and River and Neil prepared a delicious spread for her.
As soon as Paige arrived, Liora got attached to her.
“Godmother!” Liora called out to Paige softly.
Paige hugged Liora swiftly and said, “I missed you so much, Lia! Let me give you a kiss!”
Liora leaned her face close to receive the kiss.
After kissing Liora, Paige shifted her attention to Tyler.
“Boy, why are you standing there, huh? Will you please learn from your sister?” Paige said with feigned anger.
Tyler answered maturely, “My mother said that men and women should maintain proper boundaries.”
Paige was rendered speechless, thinking, ‘This boy’s mannerism is really similar to Noah!‘
“Mommy’s boy,” Paige complained.
“This shows that I love my mommy, and I’m proud of it,” refuted Tyler calmly.
His handsome face was visibly proud.
Paige widened her eyes in fake rage. “Teach your good son some manners, River!”
River served the last course of the meal and said with a smile, “Alright, it’s time for dinner.”
She took the two children to wash their hands and sat them at the table.
With a faint smile, Neil pulled out a bottle of red wine and said, “Shall we have a drink after not meeting for so long, Paige?”
Paige held out her glass. “Please!”
Meanwhile, at Villa Rosa,
Daniella tossed the phone to Axel. “Call your father
Axel took a glance and extended his hand after a moment.
“Will you move faster?” Daniella berated him, “Slow like a sloth!”
Axel’s body tensed up as he pursed his lips and dialed Noah’s number.
Noah had just returned to his office after a meeting when he received Daniella’s call.
Disgust filled Noah’s cold, piercing eyes. If it weren’t for Axel, he would have never allowed Daniella to stay in Villa Rosa nor given her a chance to be in his presence!
Agitatedly, Noah picked up the phone and heard Axel’s childish voice. “It’s me.”
Although Noah’s expression remained cold, his voice softened. “What’s going on?”
Cautiously glancing at Daniella, Axel asked, “Will you be home for dinner?”
“I’m not coming home for dinner. You can go ahead,” Noah replied before hanging up.
Daniella tightened Axel’s grip on his thigh, but he didn’t have the courage to look at her.
Daniella sneered. “What’s the point of keeping a deadbeat like you?”
Axel’s little face tensed up, further enraging Daniella.
In her rage, she turned around, grabbed a rolled–up magazine bound with tape from a cupboard, and approached Axel.
Fear overcame Axel as he glimpsed the object, his face turning ghastly pale.
In the next moment, Daniella pulled him off the chair and raised the rolled magazine, hitting Axel’s back ferociously.
The muffled thuds of the beating accompanied Axel’s grunts of pain as he clenched his teeth and fists to endure Daniella’s assault and scolding.
Coldness and terror filled his eyes as he noticed his nanny and maid huddling together nearby, shaken by witnessing the scene.
The nanny said, “Mr. De Marco Jr. is going to be injured from the beating.”
The servant said, “We can’t stop her, or we’ll be slapped by her too!”
The nanny said, “A mother shouldn’t hurt her child! We must inform Mr. De Marco about this!”
The maid said, “Don’t speak of it. Do you think Mr. De Marco will believe us if we tell him? The rolled magazine won’t leave any obvious marks after the beating!”
River woke up early to prepare breakfast for her children before sending them to Grace
International Preschool.
