Swiftly, she went to the teacher’s office, where she immediately heard a woman’s scolding voice at the entrance.
“What sort of student do you enroll in your school? How could you enroll such an uncultured child? I demand a justification for this incident and want compensation from her parent!”
Mockingly, she muttered, “Fatherless bastards!”
River walked into the office with a cold expression and clenched fists.
A slightly chubby woman sat on the sofa, holding her son overbearingly. The boy’s face bore two bloody scratches.
The teacher stood by, apologizing repeatedly.
Liora and Tyler confronted the woman, silently staring at her.
Liora’s eyes were teary, and her fists trembled.
Noticing River, Alice hurriedly approached her and announced, “Lia’s mother is here!”
Liora and Tyler turned their heads and saw River. Liora burst into tears, exclaiming, “Mommy, I’m not a bastard! I’m not!”
She pointed at the boy, sobbing and shouting, “He started the bullying first! He called the other boy who looked just like Tyler abnormal and claimed he looked like a madman.”
River understood the situation after Liora’s explanation.
Her children became affiliated with Noah’s son.
River got down on her knees and gently wiped Liora’s tears with tissues.
River said softly, “Lia, I know you did it to help someone. That is great, and you deserve to be praised. However, there are many ways to help a person. Hitting someone is not the way. What do you think, Lia?”
Liora sobbed. “I know I was wrong, Mommy.”
River picked up Liora and patted her back before she looked toward Tyler and asked, “Ty, did you apologize on behalf of your sister?”
Tyler’s eyes were cold. “I did, but his mother isn’t very pleased with that.”
River nodded, caressed Tyler’s head, and stood up. She looked at the woman and said, “I’m very sorry, madam! I will pay for the medical expenses because my child injured yours.”
“The medical expenses won’t be much!” The chubby woman hit the table in rage. “My child is emotionally traumatized!”
River looked at the boy, engrossed in playing a game on the phone. He did not seem emotionally traumatized at all.
She chuckled. “What would you like to do then?”
The chubby woman grunted, “Compensate with money then! I’m not asking for much, just 700,000dollars! I won’t accept a penny less!”
River smiled and replied, “It’s not expensive to address a child’s emotional trauma with 700,000dollars.”
The chubby woman was astonished and asked, “Can you afford it?”
River confidently said, “Yes, of course. However, should we consider the emotional trauma my child endured?”
The chubby woman’s expression changed drastically, “Your child is fine. Why should we even consider it?”
River looked at the surveillance camera in the office and calmly said, “Shall we review the footage? I recall you scolding my children earlier, calling them fatherless bastards. Words hurt more than physical violence. I’m not asking for much, either. One million dollars to compensate for my two children’s emotional trauma.”
The chubby woman stood up and scolded, “Your child bullied mine first, and now you want to blame me?”
“I shall settle the score with you then.” A deep voice came from the office entrance just as the chubby woman’s voice faded.
River was stunned, her gaze shifting to the man walking into the room. He had a tall, muscular figure that felt oppressive to everyone present.
The students attending this preschool were children of influential figures.
The chubby woman recognized the person right away. “Mr… Mr. De Marco!” she stammered.
Noah looked at her sternly. “How will you compensate for my child’s loss? One million or two million dollars? Or shall I take your whole Wunder Corp.?”
The chubby woman’s face turned ghastly pale. “I was wrong, Mr. De Marco! Please forgive me just this once! It was my son’s fault. I’ll make sure he apologizes right away. I’m sorry!”
“Do you think I need money?” Noah said in a cold, mocking voice, “Don’t let me see you again, or I’ll make Wunder Corp. disappear from Novamere in three days.”
“Yes, sir!” the chubby woman answered, swiftly running out of the office with her child.
Alice introduced, “Mr. De Marco, these are the two children who helped Axel, as I mentioned earlier ”
River began to feel uneasy, having the urge to cover her children’s faces upon hearing Alice
Noah looked stunned upon seeing Liora and Tyler. The girl resembled River, while the boy bore a striking resemblance to Axel.
Abruptly, Noah shifted his gaze to the woman wearing shades. He had a strong feeling that the face hidden beneath them was the one he yearned for day and night.
With a tense expression, Noah instructed, “Go outside, Ms. Young!”
Alice hastily left the office, closing the door behind her. The atmosphere inside grew more awkward and intense.
River felt the urge to run, but her feet seemed frozen in place. Liora and Tyler examined Noah and their mother.
Noah approached River, and his voice shook slightly as he asked, “Who are you?”
River suppressed her panic and answered coldly, “You must be bored, sir. How many times are you going to ask this question?”
With certainty in his tone but disbelief in his gaze, Noah insisted, “You’re River Healy, right?”
River frowned due to his unusually emotional expression–she had never seen him like this before. He seemed doubtful yet relieved as if he had finally found someone he had been searching for.
Trying to clarify, River said, “Sir, you’ve mistaken me for someone else. I’m not River.”
“You’re lying!” Noah pointed at the two children. “How do you explain how similar they look to me?
River sneered and bent over, firmly holding her two children’s hands. “There are many people who look similar to each other in this world. Please don’t ask these questions anymore in the future!”
She circled past Noah, still clutching her children’s hands, and walked away.
Noah’s eyes were cold and stern as he watched the three figures depart. He was convinced that the woman was River, even if she refused to acknowledge it!
However, he didn’t have the courage to remove her shades, fearing he might find a stranger’s face.
River swiftly made her way to her car with the children outside the academic building. But as she started the engine, she kept shifting the gears wrongly.
Liora frowned and asked, “What’s going on with you, Mommy? Why are you shaking? Is that man your friend?”
River replied in an uneasy tone, “He’s not my friend! I’m not acquainted with him!”
Tyler raised an eyebrow, thinking, ‘Why would Mommy be so anxious if she’s not acquainted with him?‘
He decided to investigate further when they got home.
Back at Bayview Villa, River entered the kitchen.
Liora and Tyler rushed upstairs to their rooms.
After locking the door, Tyler sat in front of his laptop and typed swiftly on the keyboard.
Liora leaned on the table and asked, “Why does the man look so similar to you, Tyler?”
Liora didn’t consider the man to be her father because her mother had told her that her father had died a long time ago.
Tyler stared at the codes on the screen. “Lia, Mommy has never shown us a photo of Daddy, right?”
“That’s true.” Liora nodded. “Mommy said she threw away all of Daddy’s photos.”
Tyler said, “Why is Mommy being so secretive?”
Liora pouted and pondered over it. “Maybe Daddy was so ugly that Mommy worried his photos would scare us.”
Tyler’s lips twitched. “That’s a bad speculation. Don’t do it anymore.”
In less than ten minutes, Tyler found Noah’s photos and information. He discovered that his mother had once worked as Noah’s secretary and was even romantically involved with him.
Noah had also hired people to search for River over the past five years.
Tyler realized that Noah could very well be his and Liora’s father. He came to understand that
River had left Noah after he hurt her feelings,
Liora, unable to read, asked Tyler for an explanation.
Angrily, Tyler closed his laptop, jumped off the chair, and said, “I’ll tell you more when I find out.”
Liora looked at Tyler in confusion, feeling misled.
River was preparing to cook when she heard a knock on the door. She looked through the peephole and saw Lily outside, so she quickly opened the door.
“Welcome back, Ms. Smith,” River greeted Lily affectionately.
Over the past five years, Lily had treated River like a daughter, and River had reciprocated, treating Lily like family.
Lily entered with her luggage and commented, “You must be busy, huh?”
River smiled and replied, “It’s fine. I’m just worried about managing the two children when I get busy.”
Lily walked past River to remove her apron, saying, “Leave the children to me while you’re busy from now on.”
River glanced at Lily and said, “I think he’ll recognize me soon.”
Lily asked in astonishment, “You mean Mr. De Marco?”
River nodded, recounting the incident at the kindergarten earlier that day.
Lily sighed. “It’s inevitable, River. Maybe it’s not such a bad thing for him to find out.”
