Natalie realized what the woman’s intentions were: getting some information about Bryce. Although she was a bit annoyed, she still replied patiently, “He is not here. He is busy with his work. I better be going.” With that, she got into the car and drove off. At the same time, she couldn’t help feeling embarrassed. Bryce was a big shot in the subject of interest.
The next morning, she got ready to go to a clothing store to buy a formal dress. Liam would be going with her. After breakfast, she bid Mrs. Perkins farewell and prepared to leave. Mrs. Perkins was puzzled. In the past, Natalie had always stayed at home every weekend.
Mrs. Perkins asked curiously, “Mrs. Claire, where are you taking Liam?” She was thinking back to when Natalie had gone out alone late at night and come back injured. She was worried.
Natalie said, “Mrs. Perkins, there’s a big company meeting coming up. I’m going out to buy a dress, and I thought I’d take Liam along.”
Mrs. Perkins laughed with relief and said, “Ha, you don’t need to go and pick out your own attire. Let me know the size required and I’ll attend to it.”
Natalie said quickly, “There’s really no need, Mrs. Perkins. I’ll go out and buy it myself.”
At that moment, Bryce walked down the stairs and heard the end of their conversation. He said, “Hey, I’ll take you guys down to the store personally.”
Natalie was surprised by Bryce’s offer, but she was too embarrassed to turn him down. So instead, she took Liam’s hand and followed Bryce out to his car. The two of them didn’t speak much along the way, but Liam was lively, pulling at his mother’s hand and then grabbing Bryce’s arm. With Liam in the car, Bryce told the driver not to drive too fast.
The driver was surprised. He could never have imagined that the boss would be so considerate for the sake of a child. Was this really Mr. Bryce Sinclair that the driver thought he knew?
Eventually, the driver dropped them off at an expensive-looking clothing store uptown. Natalie looked nervously at the extreme luxury of the store, but Bryce was already going inside. She and Liam stood outside the store, looking at the frontage. The name of the store was Galactic. She was slightly perplexed. She thought she had heard this name before, but she couldn’t recall where.
While she was still thinking, she saw that Bryce was already inside the store. She rolled her eyes and hurriedly took Liam inside. The interior of the store was decorated in a minimalist Nordic style. Everything was extremely austere, neat, and tidy. She liked the style of this place. She randomly picked up a dress and looked at the label. There were a bunch of words on it that she couldn’t understand, only the word Milan stood out. She frowned. Could it be that this was flown over from Milan?
She randomly looked at a few more tags and felt uneasy. What kind of store was this that Bryce had brought her to? It was either French or Italian, she guessed, and the dresses had next year’s date on them. Could it be that these were styles that wouldn’t be released until next year?
By now, she was not thinking about whether she would be able to find something that looked good but whether she would be able to afford the prices here. Just as Natalie was thinking about how to slip away, the store manager, Miranda Starr, came over smiling and holding out her hands to Bryce.
Miranda said, “Bryce, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know you were here. Please forgive me for not welcoming you personally.”
Bryce nodded curtly and gestured at Natalie, saying, “Miranda, please help this young lady find something suitable.”
Miranda said, “Of course.” She looked at Natalie and said, “Please follow me.”
Miranda Starr had seen a lot of things in her time, and she was the soul of discretion. She realized that this was the first time Bryce had ever brought a woman here, and there was even a child. She wondered what their relationship was with Bryce. Miranda’s heart was filled with curiosity. If she could get his attention and suggest all kinds of goods to buy, the store profits, and she herself, stood to benefit greatly. Thinking about this, Miranda started to secretly assess Natalie. She had a fine face, clear-spirited eyes, and her figure was astounding.
Natalie felt very embarrassed. She had just arrived, and already the store manager was looking her up and down. But then she turned her attention to the dresses on display. She picked up a purple purse and Miranda said, “This is the new style for next year, flown in from Italy. But I wonder if this is quite right for you.” Miranda squinted at Natalie before looking across at the other dresses. Suddenly, her eyes lit up, and she went over and brought back a white dress.
She said, “I think this color suits you—pure and flawless. It exposes the shoulder. If you don’t want to expose the shoulder, you can add a shawl.”
Natalie nodded, thinking Miranda had a good eye. She took the white dress into the fitting room. Bryce and Liam sat outside waiting. Liam’s eyes were filled with anticipation.
About five minutes later, she emerged from the fitting room, her graceful figure perfectly complemented by the dress. She swished the long skirt as she walked. Liam’s eyes lit up, and he ran towards Natalie. “Mom, that looks so good on you! You look just like a fairy princess. You already looked like a princess before, but you’ll be the Fairy Queen if you wear this dress.”
Natalie blushed and squatted down in front of Liam, saying, “You little flatterer. It’s the dress that makes me look good.”
Liam said sulkily, “What I said is true.” He pulled Natalie’s hand and turned to Bryce, saying, “Ask Daddy if you don’t believe me. Dad, what do you think?”
