“I feel you’re here to anger me.” She chuckled. Her eyes were dripping with iciness. “You shouldn’t throw around your apology. It’s an affront.”
“Are you picking on me?” His lone grew hostile.
“You’re the one who’s picking on me. I didn’t Invite you to my place. You showed up only to be snubbed.” She attempted to free her wrist. which hurt to the core. “Let go of me! I’m going back!”
“So what if I apologize on her behall? At the end of the day, I’ve offered you an apology. What else should I do to make you happy?” Losing control of his temper, he grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her.
“It was never my intention to force you into giving In. I wanted only for you to love me, but I understood and accepted the fact that you would never do so. Why would you annoy me after I’ve received closure? Am I that insignificant to you?”
She smiled bitterly. Her eyes were red in anger. Shocked, he felt that she had stared through his soul.
“I want you to stay out of my life and never show up again. Bye. See yourself out.”
She flung his hands off her shoulders, but he grabbed her hand. “How could you possibly keep me out of your life? You’ll always be a divorcee after we end our marriage. You can never wipe away our history.”
“That’s for me to decide. You might think of it as a divorce, but I feel like I’m widowed.” She looked at him with disdain as though he was a speck of dust.
Suddenly, his gaze flickered, as if he had been struck. His mind buzzed as a sharp pain coursed through it.
He gasped as his hand trembled in pain. “Allison, I will never let go of you! You’re taking my last name! Don’t ever dream of starting anew as long as I refuse to divorce you.” J
Tears rolled down her cheeks. She could take it no more and slapped him across the face. This was her second time hitting him, but it felt different. There was a hole in her heart, as if he had physically stabbed her with his words.
“Had I known you were such a jerk, I wouldn’t have married you!”
She fled his car and slammed the car door behind her. She hastily ran into the villa in the rain without even taking her umbrella.
Jeremy looked on with vacant eyes. His head froze in the lilted position after she slapped him on the cheek.
Moments later, he curled into a ball and wrapped his arms around his head. Trembling, he suffered through the throbbing headache, looking pitiful and miserable.
Back in the villa, Alyssa stayed out of Sean’s way and ran into her bedroom. She couldn’t hold back her emotions when she reached the top of the stairs.
With one hand on the wall, she gripped her sleeves with the other. Gasping like a drowning person, she had to muster all her energy to stop the tears from falling.
Allison/ Landon approached her from behind with a concerned voice. She gritted her teeth and held her tears back.
“I’m tired. I won’t see you off as I need my rest. Thanks for the gift.”
“Allison, what’s wrong?” He questioned with trepidation.
“Nothing’s wrong. Good night.”
“Allison!” He went up to her in huge strides and held her shoulders, forcing her to turn and face him.
She felt a little dizzy after he forcefully spun her around. Her misty eyes looked glazed and woeful, adding to her allure.
“Are you crying?” He stared at her fearfully.
“No,” she answered flatly, only to be betrayed by her reddened eyes.
“Did Jeremy make you angry? He’s just a dumb and insensible dude! Don’t take his words to heart. He’s not worth it.”
“Yeah, he’s not worth it.” Alyssa mumbled in a daze.
Landon inhaled sharply. He had a heartache seeing the shattered look in her eyes.
“Allison, why don’t we try it out?”
Alyssa’s brows knitted tightly.
“Take your time to accept me. I’m no gentleman, but I’m willing to try for your sake!”
At the very least, he believed he would be better to her than Jeremy.
“Landon, I’m exhausted. Please don’t put me in a difficult place.” She glanced at him dejectedly.
“Allison. His breath grew shallow. He felt sorry for her.
“It’s late. I really want to go to bed. You should go home soon.” She shoved him aside and dragged herself into the bedroom.
“Are you and Jonah a thing? What’s your relationship with him? Are you dating him seriously or using him to get back at Jeremyy
She was taken aback by Landon’s pointed questions and curled her fists. “That’s none of your business.”
“I don’t see any trace of him in your villa. If he’s really your boyfriend, why isn’t there a pair of men’s slippers at the door? Why did he not leave anything behind?”
“I’ll repeat myself. This is none of your business. Stay out of it.”
“Allison, please don’t hurt yourself with silly decisions!” He pleaded bitterly and fervently.
She pursed her lips and left without turning back.
It took Jeremy two hours to drive home to Seaview Manor from Alyssa’s house, a journey that normally took an hour.
He almost lost focus of the road due to his excruciating headache and the low visibility in the rain. He was close to getting into a car accident twice.
Back at the manor, he busted open his study door and swept the glasses and files on his table in a frantic search for pills. When he finally found the bottle, he swallowed a pill without water.
Despite taking double the usual dosage, his headache did not go away.
“Had I known you were such a jerk, I wouldn’t have married you!”
As Allison’s resentful words echoed in his mind, he groaned and curled into a ball. He was sweating all over from the massive headache.
Mrs. Rosie, who heard the commotion, rushed into the study. Tears came to her eyes when she found Jeremy in pain. “Mr. Jeremy, what happened? Are you having a headache again?”
Jeremy couldn’t think straight and stammered, “Allison A¨CAllison Burton-
*Mr. Jeremy, hang on! I’ll get you the family doctor!” The pale Mrs. Rosle dashed out of the study when the phone buzzed incessantly. It was an incoming call from an unknown number.
“Who is this?”
“Mrs. Rosie, it’s me.” Mrs. Rosie heard a soft female voice.
“M¨CMadam Allison, is that you?” She covered her mouth in disbelief.
“Yes, it’s me, Allison.”
“That’s great!” Mrs. Rosie wiped away her tears between sobs. “P¨CPlease help Mr. Jeremy. His His headache is back! He’s in so much pain that he’s speaking nonsense now! He did not relapse when you were with him. His headache worsened once he left you. What do we do?”
“Mrs. Kose, do not panic. Listen to me.”
Alyssa breathed deeply and explained clearly. “Go to my room and find a silver box in my bedside drawer. I have a set of silver needles that I treated his headache with. You’ll find a notebook underneath the box with the treatment details and the acupoints. You’ve learned a little acupuncture before, so I presume it isn’t difficult for you?”
“Yes Yes! I know acupuncture. I’ll get the needles right now!”
“By the way. Mr. Jeremy has been hurt tonight from a branch hitting him on his back. He didn’t say a word about it, but I’m sure it is a serious injury. I have some creams and medical ointments in the drawer. Please apply them to his wound. If it doesn’t heal in a few days. bring him to the doctor immediately.”
“Got it. I’ve noted it down, Madam Allison.” Feeling upset, Mrs. Rosie wiped away more tears. Why did Mr. Jeremy let go of a lovely woman
Like Allison?
“One last thing.” After a pause, Alyssa said with a sigh, “Do not tell Mr. Jeremy that I called you tonight. Please.”
Jeremy finally woke up the next day in the afternoon. He repeatedly dreamed of the same scene.
Years ago, he was dispatched on a tough mission on the Luminara battlefield. Fifty of them had to sneak into the enemy’s territory to kill the terrorists and save the ten hostages.
The youthful but vile abductors each held an assault rifle. They had been killing since they were five years old. The place was a hell on earth with endless bloodshed.
Jeremy had not been assigned to the mission at first. He requested to be sent on the mission, which was how he came to be part of the suicide squad.
“Young man, are you married?”
“No.”
